NM northwest of Point Hope by 4am Sun then continue moving 
northwest. A cold front extends east from that low will move north
to lie along the Arctic Coast of Alaska from Utqiagvik east by 
4pm Sun, then dissipate. An occluded front in the southwest 
Bering Will move over SW Alaska on Sun, to spread north to the 
Western North Slope on Mon.

Northern Alaska Forecast Discussion...CORRECTED

.SYNOPSIS...Heavy rains in the Northwest Interior and Arctic have
diminished to light rain that will be tapering off from the west
through the day. Rain showers have moved up the west coast and
will continue in most areas from the Seward Peninsula south today.
Hot and dry in the Interior from Galena east today and Friday.
Near Red Flag conditions along the north slopes of the Alaska
Range with winds near the Alaska Range passes gusting to 35 mph
today and near 50 mph Friday. Temperatures rising with highs in
the Interior in the 70s to mid 80s today and Friday.

.DISCUSSION...

Models...Good run to run continuity continues with the 01/00Z
solutions. Solutions are leaning even more toward a solution with
southwest flow developing over the state and holding over the area
into early next week. Surface solutions initialized well against
the 01/06Z local analysis. Convective indicies are pretty
marginal today with most activity in the Nulato Hills and interior
Seward Peninsula today, then slightly better chances on Friday
north of McGrath to the Noatak Valley, and generally north of the
Yukon River in the Central and Eastern Interior. Will be leaning
heavily on the current forecast database to maintain continuity,
but will make some minor adjustments to current conditions.

Aloft...At 500 hpa...The troughing over the Arctic remains over
the offshore waters and the Northwest Chukchi Sea as the low has
moved along 80N to the Canadian Archipelago. Ridging over the
state has pushed northwest over the Chukotsk Peninsula and north
over the Brooks Range from a 575 dam high over the Cooper River
Basin with 570 dam heights pushing north of Fairbanks and west of
Minchumina. The low over Atka yesterday is 100 nm southeast of
Atka at 523 dam which is about 5 dam deeper than yesterday. The
low that was over Yakutat has moved southeast over the Panhandle.
This afternoon ridging over the state will be anchored by a 578
dam high near McCarthy with ridging extending northwest over the
Chukchi Sea and the Arctic Plain. The troughing over the Arctic
will continue to drag east, but remain offshore, while the low
near Atka will move to 150 nm south of Unalaska. Friday afternoon
the ridging will lie from 575 dam high over the Central Yukon
Territory to Point Hope and west across the Chukchi Sea. Troughing
over the Arctic will continue to weaken as it is pushed further
offshore. The low near Unalaska will move northeast over Bristol
Bay as it weakened to 538 dam as a 539 dam low develops in the
Southern Bering Sea 200 nm west of the Pribilofs. At 850
hpa...The 0C isotherm continues to hang over the Arctic Coast as
it lies from Kaktovik to Point Hope, but will slowly be pushed
offshore by mid day Friday. The +10C isotherm has surged into the
Southeast Interior to lie from Eagle to Livengood to Ruby then
southwest this morning. By this afternoon it will move to lie
south and east of the Yukon River. By Friday morning it will lie
along the south slopes of the Brooks Range to Ambler, then
southwest to Koyuk, and southeast to McGrath. It will surge
northwest over the Noatak Basin Friday afternoon before
temperatures start cooling from the southwest.

Surface...High pressure over the Eastern Interior with a 1017 mb
high in the Upper Yukon Flats and high pressure extending
southeast over the Fortymile Country, then southwest over Prince
William Sound. High pressure is also pushing east over the Arctic
Coast with a 1020 mb high in MacKenzie Bay, and a 1024 mb high
moving into the Western Chukchi Sea. Broad low pressure over the
Bering Sea with a 978 mb low 150 nm south of Atka that is sending
a weather front up the West Coast today. Leeside troughing has
developed north of the Alaska Range with a 1014 mb low near
Anderson. The pressure gradient has tightened across the Alaska
Range and winds are gusting into the 30 mph range already this
morning. The gradient will tighten a little more with winds
gusting around 35 mph today, then increase Friday winds winds
gusting near 50 mph as the leeside troughing enhances. By Friday
morning high pressure will lie over the near and offshore waters
in the Arctic with high pressure south of the Alaska Range and low
pressure will continue to push east between the ranges. As the
low pressure enhances northeast winds will develop over the Upper
Yukon Flats and Eastern Brooks Range Friday with winds gusting
around 25 mph.

Arctic Coast and Brooks Range...Cloudy with rain, mixing with
snow this morning, tapering off today for most of the area. Some
lingering showers in the Eastern Arctic through the evening. Flood
Advisory remains in effect for the Western Brooks Range. River
running high, but within banks at this time. Temperatures will be
cooler today and tomorrow, then warming. Highs along the coast
will only be in the 30s to around 40 today and Thursday with lows
in the 30s. Warmer inland and in the Brooks Range with highs in
the 40s and 50s and lows in the 30s and 40s.

West Coast and Western Interior...Cloudy to mostly cloudy. Rain
tapering off in the Noatak and Kobuk Basins today. Showers mainly
from the Seward Peninsula south today with a slight chance of
thunderstorms in the Nulato Hills and the interior Seward
Peninsula. More showers Friday with thunderstorms possible north
of McGrath in the Middle Yukon Valley to Noatak. Rivers are
running high in the Noatak and Kobuk Basins, but are within banks
and starting to fall. Rain continues on St Lawrence Island with
around 1 inch of additional rain through Friday. Highs from
Kotzebue north in the 50s to 60s today and Friday, while to the
south highs will be in the 60s and around 70. Lows will be in the
40s to lower 50s. Winds northeast to southeast along the coast 10
to 25 mph while on St Lawrence Island southeast increasing to 25
to 35 mph gusting to 50 mph today. Winds inland will be east to
southeast at 5 to 15 mph.

Central and Eastern Interior...Warm and dry under mostly clear
skies today and Friday. Slight chance of thunderstorms north of
the Yukon River Friday. Temperatures warming into the 70s to mid
80s today and Friday before they cool down this weekend. Winds
northeast to east to 10 mph gusting to 15 mph, except south near
the Alaska Range with gusts to 35 mph near the passes on Thursday.
Stronger winds gusting around 50 mph expected near the passes on
Friday, and northeast of the White Mountains in the Upper Yukon
Flats and Eastern Brooks Range northeast winds gusting to around
25 mph. In the Fairbanks area winds will be northeast to southeast
around 5 mph.

Coastal Hazard Potential Days 3 and 4...None.

Extended forecast for days 4 to 7...Ridging aloft is sliding east
while troughing will extend from high in the Arctic over the
Chukotsk Peninsula to troughing across the Bering Sea. This will
produce southwest flow over the state with cooler temperatures,
and waves of moisture moving across the state through Tuesday.
The flow will become south on Wednesday as the low anchoring the
trough moves over the West Coast near Cape Romanzof with warmer
and drier conditions in the Central and Eastern Interior.

.Fire Weather...Warm and dry from the Western Interior east
between the ranges through Friday. Some isolated thunderstorms
possible the Nulato Hills and interior Seward Peninsula today,
then slightly better chances on Friday north of McGrath to the
Noatak Valley, and generally north of the Yukon River in the
Central and Eastern Interior. Showers will continue along the West
Coast. Thermal trough lies from Northway to Huslia by this
afternoon, and from Northway to Huslia to Noatak Friday. Wetting
rains in the Noatak and Kobuk Basins will be tapering off by
afternoon. Minimum Relative Humidity values will fall into the 20s
for Tanana and Upper Yukon Valleys, and Fortymile Country
Thursday and Friday. Overnight Relative Humidity recovery will be
poor tonight, and fair Friday night. South winds near the Alaska
Range will be gusting around 35 mph today, then around 50 mph
Friday with near Red Flag conditions from late morning through
early evening both days. Stronger northeast winds to 25 mph are
expected Friday mainly northeast of the White Mountains in the
Upper Yukon Flats and Eastern Brooks Range. Temperatures will be
warming the next couple days with highs between the ranges and
east of the Nulato Hills in the 70s to mid 80s through Friday.
Cooler temperatures for the weekend as highs fall into the 60s and
70s.

.Hydrology...Flood Watches and Advisories have been cancelled,
but rivers and streams in the Noatak and Kobuk Basins, and the
Colville River near Umiat continue to run at or near bankfull.
Rainfall will be tapering off through the day in those areas.
Interior rivers continue to run below normal levels and that will
continue through the weekend, but the Upper Tanana will see a
gradual rise with the high freezing levels and temperatures in the
