A deep 970 mb low develops over the N Bering Sea approximately 
240 nm west of St. Lawrence Island this afternoon then weakens 
as it moves S to 240 nm W of St. Matthew Island at 977 mb. It 
will continue to drop S and weaken as it enters the Gulf of Alaska
Thu night.

.SYNOPSIS FOR NORTHWEST COAST...
A ridge of high pressure that extends from a 1035 mb high near
Adak to a 1025 mb high over the Chukotsk Peninsula to a 1025 mb
high north of Wrangel Island will slowly slide E. The ridge will
lie along 170W late this evening and will move over the West Coast
Sun morning and inland by Sun afternoon. A strong 963 mb low will
move into the Western Bering Sea Sun and across the Northern
Bering Sea to St Lawrence Island by Tue.

.SYNOPSIS FOR NORTHWEST COAST...
High pressure extends from the Central Aleutians through the
Bering Strait to a 1028 mb high in the Arctic and will move over
mainland Alaska tonight as the remnants of Typhoon Mindulle move 
into the Western Bering Sea at 963 mb. The remnants will continue
E across the Northern Bering Sea with a weather front moving to
the West Coast early Mon morning, and the low moving to the
Dateline Tue morning at 974 mb. The low will slowly weaken as it 
continues E to St Lawrence Island Wed morning.

.SYNOPSIS...
Benign weather over the Interior with a cold arctic high in place.
Temps dropped into the single digits over the Eastern Interior for
more cold mornings upcoming. Busy weather expected over the Bering
Sea as a strong low rapidly bombs out bringing strong gale force
winds to Saint Lawrence Island.

.DISCUSSION...

Upper Levels and Analysis...
Pretty benign weather over the Interior with an arctic high firmly
entrenched. A weak cutoff shortwave trough is centered over the
Upper Koyukuk, bringing some light snow showers. Otherwise, there
is extensive stratus over the Western Interior with some patchy
dense fog this morning. Out west, there is a weak shortwave trough
moving east across the Bering Strait south into Saint Lawrence
Island. A shortwave trough is moving northwest across the Yukon,
which is already bringing some light snow to the North Slope from
Point Thompson east.

Model Discussion...
Models remain in good agreement with the large scale pattern.
There still remains some variability with the exact track of the
bomb low moving into the Bering Sea. We will continue a middle
ground which makes no changes to this forecast, as it remains in
the middle of the ECMWF and GFS. The 12z NAM is a far south
outlier and is ignored. For snow threats over the Interior on
Friday and Saturday, a blend will best serve this period given the
complex upper level pattern transiting the Gulf of Alaska.

Central and Eastern Interior...
Cold high pressure is place with cold valley inversions at night,
pushing temps down into the single digits over some of the colder
valleys over the Eastern Interior. Little change through tomorrow
and then expect increasing northeast winds Thursday as a strong
low moves into the Gulf of Alaska. Friday, there will be an
increasing chance of snow as the low moves north of the AK Range.
There remains much uncertainty of the track, but expect at least
widespread light snow over most of the Eastern Interior heading
into the weekend.

West Coast and Western Interior...
A weak occluded front is moving across Saint Lawrence Island but
will quickly fall apart as it moves inland over the West Coast,
bringing a skiff of mixed rain and snow tonight and early tomorrow
morning before falling apart. Attention turns to a bomb low over
the N Bering Sea, but with the track now looking to be west of
Saint Matthew Island, the front will mainly just be a wind maker
with increasing easterly offshore winds of 15-30 mph over the
Norton Sound and YK Delta, with gusts to 45-55 mph over Saint
Lawrence Island Wed and Thu. The front will clip the Island and
the YK Delta with a mix of rain and snow and increasing north
winds as the low exits on Thu night. Dry over the Interior with
increasing northeast winds Thu, with extensive low stratus and
some patchy dense fog tonight again.

North Slope and Brooks Range...
A low moving from the Yukon northwest will bring increasing
widespread light snow to the eastern half of the North Slope
tonight through Wed night with the snow shifting to the west Arctic
Thu morning through Friday. Expect widespread 1-3" snow amounts.
There may be some slight blowing snow with west winds to 20 mph east
of Point Thompson Wednesday.

Extended Forecast Days 4-7...
A large trough will be in place across the eastern half of the
Mainland extending into the Gulf of Alaska. Several waves of
energy will be lifting north as weakening shortwave troughs, the
remnants of bomb cyclones over the Gulf of AK. This pattern will
be favorable for snow threats over the Eastern interior to the
North Slope through the weekend. next week, the storm track looks
to possibly shift back into the Bering Sea, which may change the
pattern up a bit. Stay tuned...
