A 999 mb low will move over the Seward Peninsula this evening and
into Kotzebue Sound as a 1002 mb low by tonight and then move 
near Point Hope by Sun AM. A 995 mb low in the Gulf of Anadyr will
continue moving SSW and weaken to a 997 mb low by Sun AM. A 993 
mb low just west of Nunivak Island will become absorbed into the 
stronger 986 mb low in Bristol Bay by Sun AM.

Northern Alaska Forecast Discussion

.SYNOPSIS...
Another very nice fall day on tap for the Central and Eastern
Interior today with partly cloudy skies early and temperatures
reaching into the mid 60s again. Clouds will increase as will
chances for rain over the Central and Eastern Interior this
evening and Saturday morning. Clouds and a chance of rain will
increase again over these areas Saturday night and into Sunday.
Several fronts will pass over the West Coast and into the Western
Interior over the next several days brining a chance of rain over
the area through the weekend. over the Eastern interior before

&&

.DISCUSSION...
In the upper levels, a deep longwave trough is situated across
the Bering Sea and southeast into the Gulf of Alaska. There are
closed lows in the western Bering as well as in the Gulf of
Alaska. The current ridge axis remains to the east of the AlCan
border. The longwave trough will transition to a high amplitude
trough and ridge pattern with a deep trough over the Bering Sea
and an upper level ridge establishing itself again over Eastern
Alaska. This will result in strong south to north flow over much
of Alaska by Sunday. A strong shortwave will push north across
the Alaska Range and into the Interior Sunday night and into
Monday. This set up will likely produce strong gap and mountain
wave winds through the Alaska Range Passes and over the Northern
Foothills of the Alaska Range Sunday evening into Monday. winds
with to West Coast through Saturday.

On the surface, dry and warm conditions will continue again today
with temperatures reaching into the mid 60s over the Central and
Eastern Interior before clouds and increased chances for rain push
into the area with moisture moving in from the southeast ahead of
a front pushing in from the southwest. A weather front will
move across the West Coast and into the Western Interior to the
foothills of the Brooks Range today. This front will cause enough
lift when combined with a westerly moving front that will develop
north of the Alaska Range today to bring precipitation to the
Central and Eastern Interior this evening. Models continue to
struggle on the placement of fronts in the in the Bering, but the
overall theme remains the same out west, as several fronts moving
north along the West Coast and into the Western Interior will
bring several round of rain through the weekend. which will be
wet and cool. Conditions will dry once again for the Interior
Saturday afternoon and will continue into Sunday morning.

Central and Eastern Interior...
Dry and warm conditions continuing for today before increasing
clouds and chances for precipitation move into the Central
Interior this evening with the best chances of rain from Fairbanks
north as a weather front lifts north through the area. After this
front, clearing and dry conditions will return with middle 50s to
low 60s on Sunday.

North Slope and Brooks Range...
Low stratus and fog, dense at many locations, has returned across
the Arctic Coast as easterly flow continues today. Areas north of
the Brooks Range will remain dry going into the weekend as high
pressure remains situated over Arctic waters. Temperatures will
remain seasonal into the weekend.

West Coast and Western Interior...
Cloudy and wet conditions will continue to be the story for areas
of the West Coast and Western Interior going into and through the
weekend. A complex of surface lows will remain in the Bering Sea,
bringing periods of precipitation to the West Coast and to the
foothills of the western and central Brooks Range through tonight.
Another front will push into the Yukon Delta by Saturday morning,
bringing a second round of precipitation that will last into
Sunday. Temperatures will remain near or slightly below normal
through the weekend.

Coastal Hazard Potential...
Southwest winds over Norton Sound today through Saturday will
produce elevated water levels 1 to 2 feet above the normal high
tide level along south and west facing coastlines beginning
tonight and lasting through the weekend south of the Bering
Strait. Residents are encouraged to secure items by moving them
away from the beach.

.HYDROLOGY...
Rivers in the Kobuk and Noatak Valleys continue to remain high as
heavy rainfall from earlier in the week continues to move
downstream. Expect these rivers to remain near bankfull and
continue to run high through the weekend.
