northeast of Barter Island Mon morning as a 1004 mb low. High
pressure will build across the central and eastern Arctic Coast 
Mon morning as a 1010 mb high.

Northern Alaska Forecast Discussion

.SYNOPSIS...Showery and cooler conditions will persist into Monday.
A slight chance of afternoon thunderstorms over the Interior
this afternoon and Sunday afternoon. A stronger Arctic front will
reach the Bering Strait region early Sunday, bringing much colder
air from the Seward Peninsula and north into next week.

.DISCUSSION...
Upper Levels and Analysis...
Troughing will persist over the western half of the state through
Monday. This will support cloudy, rainy, and cooler conditions
for much of Northern Alaska into this weekend and next week as
shortwaves rotate around the longwave trough from west to east.
Flow over the Interior will turn more southerly Monday into
Wednesday lowering precipitation chances.

Central and Eastern Interior...
Low stratus and fog has set up over Fairbanks and surrounding
areas. Expected to scatter out by mid afternoon. Scattered
to numerous showers are continuing over the Eastern Interior
today along with the potential for Isolated thunderstorm activity
across the Central and Eastern Interior. A front moving through
on Sunday will bring Numerous rain showers to the southern
Interior. Higher elevations of the Alaska Range will see a mix of
rain and snow. Isolated thunderstorm activity near the ALCAN
Border on Sunday. Precipitation will be on the downtrend Monday
into Wednesday for much of the Interior. Cooler temperatures
with highs in the lower to mid 50s Sunday and Monday.

West Coast and Western Interior...
Scattered to numerous showers will continue for the western
Interior this afternoon through Sunday. Cooler temperatures
with highs in the 40s Sunday and Monday.

North Slope and Brooks Range...
low stratus and dense fog will continue into the afternoon for
portions of the eastern north slope. A front will push through
the Brooks range this afternoon into Sunday bringing rain and
snow showers. Precipitation will diminish on Monday.

Coastal Hazard Potential Days 3 and 4...None.

.HYDROLOGY...
Rivers have been falling or holding steady, but will likely begin
rising again over the next few days due to more rainfall. The
Fortymile River, in particular is forecast to see significant
rises anywhere from 1 to 5 feet by late Sunday, however, no
flooding is expected at this time.
