the next few days. Flooding is no longer expected to pose a threat, 
but there may be soft river banks and debris flowing through the 
river at times due to the recent high waters. Please use caution in

Northern Alaska Forecast Discussion

.SYNOPSIS...
Heavy rains across the West Coast and Western Interior continue to
be the main story going into the weekend. Generally 1-3 inches for
areas along the West Coast and 2-5 inches for the Western Interior
through Monday morning. As a result, the Flood Advisory remains in
effect for the Snake and Nome rivers. Conditions will remain dry
in the Eastern Interior, with pleasant weather for outdoor
activities this weekend.

.DISCUSSION...
In the upper levels, troughing out west and ridging out east will
be the main drivers for the weather across northern Alaska going
into next week. Due to the troughing out west, cooler and wetter
conditions will continue as this troughing feature has persisted
in the region for quite a few days. This closed low will have
another reinforcement from the longwave trough as another piece of
energy ejects out of Siberia and into the western Bering Sea by
this afternoon, resulting in the trough digging south of the
Bering Strait by tonight. This will make flow become more
southwesterly as this trough lifts to the northeast over the
northwestern Arctic Coast by tomorrow afternoon.

Behind this trough will result in a transition into higher
heights as a ridge builds across the state going into Sunday. This
ridging will combine with ridging over Canada, with a strong
ridge in place across northern Alaska by the beginning of next
week. At this point, the positioning and strength of this ridge
shows slight differences between the model solutions, but the
overall trend indicates warming temperatures across the board as
conditions clear out on the West Coast and higher heights will
cause temperatures to continue to increase across the Interior.

Central and Eastern Interior...
Warming and drying conditions will continue to develop from
Fairbanks east throughout the weekend. Portions of the Central
Interior will remain wet as a weather front advances east over
this region through the weekend. Gusty winds through the Alaska
Range expected to develop tomorrow afternoon and last into Sunday.
This weekend will shape up for a nice one with many outdoor
activities to enjoy.

North Slope and Brooks Range...
Relatively active and changing weather pattern is expected for the
Arctic Coast this weekend. General southerly flow will become more
easterly tomorrow ahead of the next weather front that will bring
another round of rain to the northwest Arctic Coast beginning
tomorrow morning. Rain totals up to one half inch are expected
through tomorrow night. Temperatures will continue to remain well
above normal, with high pressure bringing low to mid 60s for
portions of the eastern Arctic Coast this weekend.

West Coast and Western Interior...
Wet conditions remain the focus for the region through the
weekend as 1-3 inches of rain are expected along the West Coast,
while 2-5 inches will fall in the Western Interior. The largest
amounts will be seen in the foothills of the Brooks Range. Many
rivers and streams will see rapid rises, with the Snake and Nome
rivers remaining under a Flood Advisory due to the previous event
resulting in minor flooding and the continued elevated water levels.
Temperatures will remain below normal going into next week.

Coastal Hazard Potential Days 3 and 4...None.

.FIRE WEATHER...
Wet conditions out west and dry conditions for the Eastern
Interior expected through the weekend. From Fairbanks east,
temperatures will trend towards the mid to upper 70s by Saturday,
with areas exceeding the 80s by Sunday. This will result in
minimum RH's dipping into the low to mid 20s in areas of the Upper
Tanana Valley through the weekend. Winds will remain generally
light going into the weekend, but gap flow through Alaska Range
Passes with gusts to 40 mph will develop on Saturday. In addition,
due to the weather front situated over the Western Interior by
Saturday, increasing winds across the Central and Eastern
Interior, particularly in higher terrain, are expected to develop.
Despite these favorable fire weather combinations, the warmest
and driest locations are not expected to have windy conditions
through the weekend.

.HYDROLOGY...
Flood Advisory remains in effect for the Nome and Snake rivers
located on the Seward Peninsula due to minor flooding that has
already occurred, with the return to wet conditions expected to
keep these rivers elevated through the weekend. Large rain
accumulations extending across the West Coast and Western Interior
through the weekend will result in rises in the Snake, Nome,
Niukluk, Buckland, Kobuk, Noatak, Wulik, and Koyukuk rivers.
Outdoor recreators should keep an eye on small streams and creeks
draining into these rivers as rapid rises and bankfull conditions
