.SYNOPSIS FOR ARCTIC COAST...
A 1065 mb high is 600 nm N of Demarcation Point and will slowly
drift N. A 1042 mb low has formed near Demarcation Point in 
troughing that has developed over the Arctic Coast. A 1041 mb low
will develop this morning near Deadhorse and move to 150 nm NW of
Wainwright by Thu morning as the trough lifts N of the coast. A
1036 mb high will develop near Utqiagvik Thu evening.

Northern Alaska Forecast Discussion

SYNOPSIS...Deep cold will stick around for another day then
temperatures start moderating. Cold will persist over the Arctic
as the high slide north. A front will move northwest up the
over the West Coast and western Interior Wednesday night and
Thursday spreading snow over the area. Strong High pressure will
weaken over the Arctic.

.DISCUSSION...

Models...09/12Z solutions are in pretty good agreement in handling
the low moving across the state and ridging building over the
state from the east as the low rotates over the Arctic. much
better agreement, especially in the midrange. Temperatures will be
below climatological normals over Northern Alaska this next week.
Precipitation solutions have done a good job with the latest
system. We are moving into a drier period in the Central and
Eastern Interior so no issues there. The West Coast will get some
activity Wednesday and Thursday and the GFS and ECMWF are handling
it similarly at this point. Solutions have been consistent in
developing winds on the summits north of Fairbanks through
midweek. Temperatures coming out of the MOS guidance may be a bit
on the cold side considering the 850 hpa temperatures only get
down to around 32 below on the Canadian solutions and warmer on
the others.

Aloft...At 500 hpa...A 518 dam low has moved over Eagle with
troughing extending northwest then north over the Eastern Arctic.
Ridging extends from the Northeast Pacific over Bristol Bay to a
548 dam high over St Matthew Island then northwest to a 551 dam
high 300 nm north of the New Siberian Islands. The low over Eagle
will move over the Western Brooks Range at 514 dam Wednesday
morning. Ridging will remain to the south of the Alaska Range,
and west of the Dateline. The low will continue to move northwest
to be 200 nm northwest of Wainwright at 508 dam with ridging
pushing west over the state as a 558 dam high over the Canadian
Archipelago moves southwest over the Yukon Territory at 559 dam by
Thursday afternoon. At 850 hpa...-20C isotherm lies from McCarthy
to Minchumina to Deering to Point Hope then northwest today. -30C
temperatures have pushed west into the Interior over the Upper
and Middle Tanana Valley and the Upper Yukon Flats. Temperatures
will warm above -30C today and continue to moderate through the
week.

Surface...Broad Arctic high with a 1065 mb center 300 nm north of
Deadhorse is pushing high pressure south over the state. Weak
troughing over the Gulf of Alaska stretching west over the
Southern Bering Sea. The high will drift north into the Northern
Beaufort Sea tonight at 1070 mb as a 1044 mb low develops over the
Eastern Arctic Coast, and a 1037 mb low will develop over the
Northwest Arctic Coast near Wainwright. Leeside troughing
developing north of the Alaska Range Wednesday will produce some
gusty winds in the Alaska Range and the Tanana Valley Jet will
kick in around Delta Junction. A broad low will move south of the
Aleutians and slowly work its way north into the Bering Sea later
in the week as lower pressure pushes over the state.

Arctic Coast and Brooks Range...Wind Chill warnings remain in
effect. Mostly clear and cold will continue with some stratus and
patchy fog floating around. Winds pick up some today from the
northeast to 10 to 25 mph.

West Coast and Western Interior...Wind Chill Advisories remain in
effect for the area. Mostly clear and cold will continue for
another day or so before temperatures moderate as clouds spread
northwest into the area with some light snow.

Central and Eastern Interior...Wind Chill and Winter Weather
Advisories remain in effect. Mostly clear skies will continue with
just a few clouds moving through the area. Winds picking up near
the passes in the Alaska Range, and around Delta Junction today
as the Tanana Valley Jet kicks in. One more night of the cold,
then moderating temperatures.

Coastal Hazard Potential Days 3 and 4...None.

Extended forecast for days 4 to 7...Much of the forecast area will
remain mostly clear with cool temperatures. Low pressure in the
Bering Sea will send some snow up the West Coast at times.
