Delta tonight and will push inland Tue. A 1001 mb low will move
across the southern Bering Sea on Wed. High pressure over eastern
Russia will build east over the Bering Strait today and Tue.

.SYNOPSIS...Heavy snow will continue over the Interior
through Sunday morning, then tapering off to snow showers with
gusty winds developing behind the front Sunday afternoon. Gusty
winds to 35 mph in the Interior will produce some blowing snow,
but more importantly will blow the snow off trees on to power
lines, and may blow trees onto the power lines with the potential
for power outages late Sunday. Blowing snow developing along the
Arctic Coast as well with visibility reduced through Sunday
morning before conditions improve. Quieter weather expected after
Sunday with colder temperatures over the forecast area by mid
week.

.DISCUSSION...
Aloft, at 500 mb, a 505 dam low is currently over the Bering Sea
with southwesterly flow in place over much of the forecast area.
The associated trough will push east across the forecast area on
Sunday and into Canada by Monday. A cold trough will dig south
from the Arctic into the Interior Tuesday into Wednesday.

Interior...Fairbanks broke the record for daily snowfall and
liquid equivalent yesterday with 7 inches of snow and 0.71 inches
of liquid. Snowfall will continue today across the Interior.
Snowfall will remain heavy at times this morning before tapering
off to scattered to numerous snow showers late Sunday afternoon.
Additional accumulations around 2 to 4 inches expected with
heavier amounts north of Fairbanks. As the snow begins to taper
off, gusty westerly winds will develop this afternoon. Wind gusts
up to 30 mph are possible with higher terrain areas seeing gusts
in excess of 40 mph. Blowing snow and low visibility is likely
over summits. The gusty winds could also cause issues with power
outages. Highs today and Sunday will be in the upper 20s to lower
30s. Quieter weather expected after Sunday with colder
temperatures over the forecast area by mid week.

Arctic Coast and Brooks Range...East to northeast winds west of
Utqiagvik, increasing as low pressure moves to the Brooks Range
Sunday to 15 to 30 mph with blowing and drifting snow reducing
visibility along the coast and north of Umiat. Winds will diminish
Sunday evening as the low moves east. Temperatures will be
falling with lows in the teens and 20s below, and high in the
single digits below.

West Coast and Western Interior...Snow showers will continue for
the west coast today.As the cold air wraps into the area winds
will increase to 15 to 30 mph and gusty for most areas by mid
afternoon, with scattered snow showers continuing into the
afternoon before tapering off. The winds will produce some blowing
snow issues, so Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for some
areas through this afternoon.
