.SYNOPSIS FOR NORTHWEST COAST...
A 997 mb low near Point Hope will move east into the Brooks Range
this evening. A high pressure ridge will move east over the 
eastern Bering Sea through Thursday. A weather front associated 
with a 998 mb low will reach St. Lawrence Island to the YK Delta 
Thursday evening.

Northern Alaska Forecast Discussion

.SYNOPSIS...
The active weather pattern continues for Northern Alaska with a
series of fast moving storms moving rapidly east across Northern
Alaska. A strong storm is currently bringing blizzard conditions
over much of the West Coast and is producing snow and blowing snow
over the Western Interior. A cold front that currently pushing
into Canada will continue to push east bringing an end to the
light snow over the Eastern Interior where generally less than an
inch of snow fell over night and this morning.

.DISCUSSION...

The 23/12z model suite initialized well against the 12z surface
analysis and verified well against the 18z surface analysis. Model
spread is minimal in the short range but begins to increase
considerably by the weekend.

Aloft at 500 mb a broad areas of high pressure to the south of
Alaska combined with a broad area of troughing to the north of
Alaska continues to produce a fast and progressive long wave
pattern over Northern Alaska and is expected to continue to
produce active weather over Northern Alaska into next week. A
weak shortwave currently along the ALCAN border will continue to
push to the east while weak ridging over Central Alaska pushes
into Eastern Alaska tonight. The second in a series of shortwaves
is currently located over the Eastern Siberia and will continue
to push through the Bering Strait tonight and will continue to
move east into Western Alaska Western Alaska tomorrow. The strong
shortwave will weaken as it moves east into the Central Interior
on Thursday. Deep and moist southwest to westerly flow ahead of
this shortwave from the surface to over 700 mb in the Eastern
Bering Sea and north of the Alaska Range will produce periods of
snow and periods of gusty winds with blowing snow over higher
terrain over the Interior of Alaska Wednesday and Thursday.

A third strong shortwave dives south and east along the West Coast
into the northern Gulf of Alaska as the long wave trough briefly
deepens over Northern Alaska on Saturday. A ridge builds rapidly
north again over Southern Alaska on Sunday before a fourth strong
shortwave approaches the West Coast on Monday.

On the surface, A very strong storm currently near the Gulf of
Anadyr continues to produce snow, strong southeast winds gusting
to 70 mph and blizzard conditions to the Bering Strait and St
Lawrence Is with snow and southeast winds gusting to 50 mph and
blizzard conditions spreading to the remainder of the West Coast
this afternoon and evening, with snow and SE winds gusting 30-40
mph spreading into the Western Interior tonight, with snow and
southwest winds 15 gusting 25 mph spreading and to the Eastern
Interior on Wed. Expect this to bring 4-8 inches of snow to the
West Coast and Western Interior through Thu, with 2-4 inches over
the Eastern Interior Wed and Thu with blowing snow issues over
Interior Highway Summits Wed PM into Thu. Winter Weather
Advisories have been issued for these areas. Additional snow is
expected over the interior along a McGrath to Fairbanks to Central
line where an additional 2 to 4 inches of snow is possible
Thursday night into Friday. A Winter Weather Advisory has also
been issued for zone 225 along the Parks Highway north of Carlo
Creek for reduced visibility in blowing snow as snow combined with
gusty southerly gap winds develop late tonight and continue into
Wednesday night.

A third low pressure system will push east out of the Bering Sea
and into the YK Delta on Saturday and then push south and east
into the Gulf of Alaska with light snow expected over the southern
portions of the West Coast and Western Interior on Saturday. A
fourth low pressure system over the Western Bering Sea on
Saturday strengthens as it pushes into the Central Bering Sea on
Sunday. A strong front rotating around this low pressure system
will push onto the West Coast and West Coast Sunday night into
Monday with another round of snow, blowing snow and strong winds.
