afternoon, leaving a broad area of low pressure over the Chukchi 
Sea through Tue. A 1028 mb high over the Canadian Archipelago 
will gradually drift west over the Arctic Ocean through Tue.

Northern Alaska Forecast Discussion

.SYNOPSIS...
Blizzard conditions and strong winds which have been impacting
the west coast the past few days will pretty much come to an end
later this evening. Winds will then be relatively light in most
areas except for gusty winds tonight along the eastern Arctic
Coast and through Brooks and Alaska Range passes. Otherwise, a
quiet weather pattern is in store across northern Alaska for the
next few days with occasional clouds and some areas of light snow
mainly over the western part of the state and southern Interior.

.DISCUSSION...
Forecast models are once again in good agreement with the overall
synoptic scale features across northern Alaska. A weakening ridge
of high pressure aloft over the state will continue to move north
to the Arctic Ocean, as a broad upper low settles over the state.
At the surface, a weather front extending from the Chukchi Sea to
the Gulf of Alaska will continue to fizzle out as it pushes east
across the southern Interior. Low pressure developing along the
southern end of this front in the northern Gulf will enhance the
snowfall over the southeast Interior Monday night. A 2nd low
developing over far east Russia will push into western Alaska
Tuesday night and Wednesday bringing some additional snow to that
area.

Central and Eastern Interior...
Increasing clouds tonight especially over the southern Interior
with overnight lows below zero again, but warmer than the past
few nights. Some very light snow will spread as far east as
Fairbanks by Monday morning with dry conditions to the north.
Additional snow will spread into the Upper Tanana Valley and
eastern Alaska Range Monday night and spread as far west as
Fairbanks. Gusty winds through Alaska Range passes, in the Delta
Junction area, and over higher terrain will gradually diminish
tonight.

North Slope and Brooks Range...
East to southeast winds mainly 15 to 20 mph along the coast with
higher gusts to 40 mph and blowing snow over the eastern Arctic
Coast persisting into Monday. In the Brooks Range, southerly gap
winds will diminish tonight. Some light snow is expected over the
western North Slope and Chukchi Sea coast with dry conditions
elsewhere.

West Coast and Western Interior...
Things are really quieting down. Winds have diminished
considerably along the Bering Strait and low visibility in blowing
snow has improved. Mostly cloudy conditions with periods of light
snow is expected the next couple days with snow totals mainly an
inch or less through Tuesday. A weather front moving into the
Bering Sea coast on Tuesday night and Wednesday will bring an
additional 1 to 2 inches from Kotzebue Sound southward.

Coastal Hazard Potential Days 3 and 4...None.

Extended forecast for days 4 to 7...The model consensus is for
temperatures to run a little below normal for much of next week.
Occasional clouds and scattered light snow is possible especially
over the western half of the state.
