CONCERNING TAF SITES KTUL/KRVS/KBVO/KMLC/KXNA/KFYV/KFSM/KROG.
Showers and thunderstorms ongoing across parts of Southeast
Oklahoma and West Central Arkansas will remain possible through
the morning hours...though for the most part remaining south of
KMLC/KFSM. During the day today...high clouds look to become
scattered with possible few/scattered mid clouds developing this
afternoon over the CWA. This evening and overnight tonight...high
clouds are forecast to spread back into the region over top of the
few/scattered mid clouds. Winds through the period should increase
out of the south with gusts 10-20KT this afternoon and subside
some overnight tonight. VFR conditions should persist through the
TAF period.

DISCUSSION...

Once the storms die off this morning, we should see a relative
lull in storm activity today and tonight, as mid level heights
rise in the wave of a shortwave trough lifting up toward the
Midwest. The main focus for storms should be well west of our
area. Shower and storm chances return on Sunday as a broad upper
trough approaches from the west, and the forecast just gets
downright messy after that. Energy in the base of the upper trough
closes off and becomes cutoff from the westerlies, which will
leave it behind as they retreat north closer to the Canadian
border in a more summer like pattern. This weakness in the mid
level height field is expected to sit over the region thru next
week and may even persist into the following weekend. The main
threat will transition from organized severe to heavy
rainfall/flooding, especially by Monday and Tuesday. The threat
for flash flooding will depend on where the rains fall from day to
day, but the threat for river flooding will increase regardless.
Soils across the region will become increasingly saturated and
thus a quicker river response is expected.

There is a low threat for a severe storm across southeast Oklahoma
this morning. Large hail and damaging winds would be the main
threats.

EXTENDED DISCUSSION...

An unsettled weather pattern will bring daily thunderstorm chances
from the latter part of the holiday weekend on into the following
week. While organized severe weather is not expected, pockets of
locally heavy rainfall, falling on areas likely to have received
rounds of heavy rainfall previous, will likely bring main stem
river flooding and may cause localized flash flooding. The
greatest potential for flooding will be on Monday and Tuesday.
