PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent
freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should
be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have
in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-
ground pipes to protect them from freezing

.SYNOPSIS...
Offshore winds will continue to be gusty at times across northern
portions of our forecast area through much of today before
weakening tonight. This will bring chilly conditions, where
cold nighttime temperatures will yet again come into the picture
for many of our valley and desert locales. A warming trend is
expected Wednesday through Saturday with more dry weather. There
is a chance for some rain and mountain snow to make its way into
our area for Sunday and Monday.

.DISCUSSION...FOR EXTREME SOUTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA INCLUDING ORANGE...
SAN DIEGO...WESTERN RIVERSIDE AND SOUTHWESTERN SAN BERNARDINO
COUNTIES...

Winds were quite breezy early this morning, where we saw gusts
generally 30-40 mph below passes and canyons around the 3 AM
hour, though Freemont Canyon has reported 70 mph. These
northeastly winds will continue into the afternoon before slowly
weakening this evening. A deep trough over the western U.S. will
continue to provide cold northerly flow aloft as the system pushes
to the east. This will provide another another cool afternoon
with highs generally 5 to 15 degrees below average. As the winds
calm this evening, temperatures will plummet tonight for many
desert and inland valley locations. Freeze and Hard Freeze
Warnings have been issued, seeing that we are expecting these
areas to dip into the 20s and 30s.

High pressure off the West Coast will begin to progress its way
eastward, leading to warmer temperatures starting Wednesday, with
the warmest days on Friday and Saturday. Light onshore flow with
calm winds can be expected across the area through Saturday.

Latest ensemble guidance continuing to hint that this area of
high pressure will not be around for long as a potential trough
digs its way down into California on Sunday. Though confidence
still remains somewhat low on the details, we may see an
opportunity for some appreciable precipitation across the area
with another round of cooler than average temperatures. Long term
guidance trying to show this trough pattern lingering into the
area through the middle of next week.

.AVIATION...
041000Z...Northeasterly surface gusts 25-45 kt across areas of the
mountains and below the passes/canyons today. Rotors, mountain waves
and LLWS are possible over/SW of the mountains. Strongest winds will
be in San Bernardino, Orange and Riverside Counties this morning,
with winds slowly diminishing thereafter. Mostly clear skies today
and tonight.

.MARINE...
Gusty northeast winds will continue today, strongest between Camp
Pendleton and San Clemente Island. Gusts of 25 to 30 kts are
expected this morning. A Small Craft Advisory remains in effect
through noon. No additional hazardous marine weather is expected
this afternoon through Saturday.
