At 632 PM EDT, radar indicated showers were located along a line
extending from Cedarville to near Cape Henlopen State Park. Movement
was east at 35 mph.
Wind gusts up to 50 mph are possible with these showers.

Vineland, Atlantic City, Millville, Bridgeton, Ocean City, Cape May,
Cumberland, Pleasantville, Somers Point, Ventnor City, Brigantine,

.SYNOPSIS...
A cold front extending from the eastern Great Lakes to the
Carolinas this afternoon will continue to move to the east. Low
pressure is forecast to develop along the boundary in Virginia
early this evening. The low is expected to progress slowly
northeastward and across the coastal waters of Delaware and New
Jersey from late tonight into Friday morning, before picking up
speed and reaching Nova Scotia on Saturday. High pressure is
anticipated to nose into our region from the southwest and south
over the weekend. A cold front from the northwest is expected
to arrive on Sunday night with high pressure following for the
early part of the new week. Low pressure may approach from the
west and southwest on Wednesday.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM FRIDAY MORNING/...
For the early evening update, no significant changes yet. Once
the line gets east of most of the region, winds will drop off
considerably as upstream winds show light or even calm
conditions west of the main line of showers. Thus, we'll keep
the wind headlines in place for now.
Previous discussion: Low pressure located over Lake Huron with
a cold front extending southward into Ohio and West Virginia.
Ahead of the front, a south-north oriented plume of moderate to
heavy rain extends from central PA south into western MD and
Virginia towards North Carolina. This rain is associated with a
plume of PWATs in the 1.3 to 1.7 inch range as there is a deep
draw of moisture extending as far south as Florida. Not too much
rain yet over the forecast area but between the low to our west
and high pressure to our east there is a strong S/SE LLJ that's
moved in (50+ knots at 925 mb). This has resulted in wind gusts
of 40-50+ mph within the warm sector of the low over roughly
the southern two thirds of the forecast area.
As we head through the rest of the afternoon into early this
evening, plume of heavy rainfall gradually move into the the
forecast area from west to east...reaching PHilly the 20-21z
time frame and our eastern zones by early this evening. Ahead of
this rain expect strong wind gusts to continue in the 45-55 mph
range with a few gusts up to 60 mph for areas roughly from the
I-95 corridor and points south where a High Wind Warning remains
in effect until early this evening when winds will diminish.
The other main concern continues to be hydro with the Flood
Watch remaining in effect for all areas except the coastal plain
of NJ. Heaviest rain for most of the region should be through
late this afternoon through the first half of this evening as
the plume moves through ahead of the front. It hasn't been
moving very fast but as shortwave energy moves up the coast by
the 21-0z time frame this should help the band become more
progressive and kick it eastward through this evening. The
heaviest rain should then be mostly east of the forecast area by
the overnight period as the cold front moves through. We are
still forecasting rain amounts mainly in the 1.5 to 2.5 inch
range but since the rain has been a bit slower to move in than
forecast and may move out a bit quicker this evening this could
potentially cut amounts down a bit. The upshot is there will
still be significant rises though on area rivers and streams
with the RFC still forecasting many of our river points to reach
into caution stage. However if any heavier bands end up
training over the same areas this could still push some of more
"flashy" points into flood stage, especially over SE PA.
Flooding of low lying areas and urban flooding will also be a
threat.
By late tonight, broad area of surface low pressure will be
located in the general vicinity of the CWA with its cold front
to our east and the upper low to our west. The heaviest rain
will have ended but there will still may be some spotty lighter
rain or drizzle around. Lows will be mainly in the 50s.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM FRIDAY MORNING THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT/...
For Friday, low pressure located over the area early in the day
will gradually move NE into New England through the day.
Meanwhile, the system's upper level low / trough will move
through. This will keep conditions unsettled with mainly cloudy
skies and some periods of light rain and showers continuing.
Showers look to be most prevalent during the afternoon where
there will also be some diurnally induced instability. This will
be aided by colder air moving in through the mid levels. For
this reasons, some thunderstorms will be possible and while rain
amounts through the day should generally be no more than a few
tenths of an inch or so, locally higher amounts could fall in
any storms. This could exacerbate any hydro issues. In fact,
water levels will continue rise into tomorrow afternoon on the
main stem rivers even though the widespread heaviest rain will
be over by later tonight.
The low will continue to move away Friday night as the upper
level trough also pulls out. As a result, lingering/rain showers
wind down through the evening with some partial clearing
overnight.

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
The mid level flow is expected to be somewhat zonal from
Saturday into Tuesday. The pattern is forecast to begin
amplifying a bit for Wednesday and Thursday with some troughing
over the eastern states and ridging over the west.
A cold front is forecast to drop toward our region from the
northwest on Sunday and it should pass through our area on
Sunday night. We will indicate a general increase in the chance
of showers for our western counties on Sunday, with a chance of
showers area- wide on Sunday night.
High pressure is expected to push toward our region from the
northwest for Monday and Tuesday with fair weather anticipated.
The model guidance has been a bit undecided with the Wednesday
into Thursday period. There remains some uncertainty as to
whether high pressure from the northwest will continue to
influence our region. We may be affected by weak low pressure
passing to our south. For now, we will simply indicate some
clouds along with a low or slight chance of showers.
Temperatures are expected to be near normal on Saturday, Sunday
and Monday, and a bit below normal for Tuesday, Wednesday and
Thursday.

.AVIATION /22Z THURSDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG,
KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.
Tonight...Deteriorating conditions as ceilings continue to fall
to MVFR and then IFR. Heavy rain will overspread the region
from west to east this evening, exiting to the east of the
region late tonight into early morning. Isolated thunderstorms
are possible but confidence is too low to include in the TAF at
this time. Extremely gusty southeast winds around 30-40 knots
with gusts up to 50 knots will continue into this evening and
then start to taper off tonight. Winds should start to lose the
high gustiness by around 00-3Z and then drop down to light and
variable during the overnight hours. Moderate confidence with
low confidence on timing of lower conditions.
Friday...IFR/MVFR will improve to generally MVFR by late
morning/mid day with an improvement to VFR possible by around
midday/early afternoon. Showers may continue to through the
morning hours but should be fairly light. West to southwest
winds early will become more northwest during the afternoon,
around 5 to 10 knots. Moderate confidence.
Outlook...
Friday night...Mainly VFR. A chance of showers. Northwest wind
around 10 knots. Medium to high confidence.
Saturday...Mainly VFR. Northwest wind 10 to 15 knots with gusts
of 20 to 25 knots. Medium to high confidence.
Saturday night...Mainly VFR. Northwest to west wind 5 to 10
knots, becoming southwest. Medium to high confidence.
Sunday...Mainly VFR. A chance of showers in the afternoon.
Southwest wind around 10 knots. Medium confidence.
Sunday night...VFR/MVFR conditions with a chance of showers.
Southwest wind around 10 knots , becoming northwest. Medium
confidence.
Monday...Mainly VFR. Northwest wind 10 to 15 knots with gust of

.MARINE...
Gale force gusts expected to continue into this evening with
the strongest winds likely to be near shore and over the
Delaware Bay. The winds will diminish through the late evening
into the overnight but seas will be in the 8-12 foot range for
most of the night.
For Friday, winds over the waters will generally be SW 10-15
knots with seas generally 7-10 feet.
SCA conditions are likely to continue through Friday night as
winds shift to NW and increase to 10-20 with gusts up to 25
knots and seas remain above 5 feet.
Outlook...
Saturday...Wave heights on our ocean waters may remain around 5
feet in the morning, before subsiding in the afternoon.
Saturday night through Tuesday...No marine headlines are
anticipated.

.HYDROLOGY...
The heavier rain has been a little slower than forecast to move
in but will overspread the region into early this evening. The
Flood Watch remains in effect. We are still forecasting rain
totals with the system to generally be 1.5 to 2.5 inches or so
but locally the amounts could be higher if any showers/storms
train over the same areas. At this time the greatest threat for
small stream and urban flooding looks to be over the urban
corridor and locations in eastern PA. There will also be
significant rises on the rivers with many points likely to get
into at least action stage. A few points could reach into minor
flood stage but at this point this doesn't look like a system
that will bring widespread river flooding.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
The present tide up the northern Chesapeake Bay is well into
the minor flood range and close to moderate at Tolchester Beach.
The advisory for Cecil and Kent counties MD will continue thru
600 PM. The subsequent low tide will remain high and with the
next tide levels will likely go back into advisory criteria, so
another advisory will be issued for Queen Ann's, Talbot and
Caroline counties. The advisory will be in effect until 300 AM
Friday.
For the Delaware Bay, the advisory for the upper Bay and up
into the tidal Delaware look fine with the upcoming high tide
(which is the lower of the two daily tides). Levels will be in
the minor flooding range before the winds begin to settle down
and the water levels return to normal. The subsequent tide will
be around action stage.
The strong south wind is having its usual effect on Barnegat
Bay with the water piling up at the north end of the Bay. Water
levels will cause minor roadway flooding across those areas. We
will include this in with the CFW statement. Levels there will
drop back closer to normal later tonight.
