Winds look to be light from the northeast to calm overnight. VFR
sky (bases at mid to high levels). Impacts to approaches and
departures Saturday will be increase in areal coverage of
shra/tsra during the day. Brief lower cigs, vsby, lightning
hazards, and brief strong gusty winds will be common in and near
convection. /10

NEAR TERM /Now Through Saturday night/...Similar to last evening,
deep layer ridge is positioned from off the Mid-Atlantic to the TN
Valley and from there into Texas. South of the ridge, weak
inverted surface pressure trof was aligned from southeast LA to
the central Gulf. Associated with it, radar trends indicate a few
lingering spotty showers remaining. A re-development though of
overnight showers and storms is expected over the coastal waters
with a small chance of activity passing west over the Gulf coast.
The system of more concern for later periods is Tropical
Depression 19 (TD 19) off the southeast tip of the Florida
Peninsula. TD 19 tracks west northwest over the southern Florida
Peninsula through early Saturday morning and emerges over the warm
waters of the eastern Gulf of Mexico during the course of the day
Saturday. Environmental conditions support strengthening as the
system lifts west northwest over the eastern Gulf through Saturday
night. Refer to the National Hurricane Center for updates on
forecast track and intensity for TD 19.

For sensible weather, expect showers and storms to increase through
Saturday morning and be scattered to numerous over the land areas by
the afternoon. The greater deep layer moisture does slip west, to
be more concentrated over southwest Alabama and southeast
Mississippi by afternoon. Precipitable water values look to be
between 2.2-2.4" in these areas, whereas slightly lower numbers (~
2.0") over south-central Alabama and the western Florida
Panhandle. A Moderate Risk of rip currents looks to begin tonight
and continue through Saturday with a HIGH RISK of dangerous to
potentially deadly rip currents to follow by Saturday night due
to arrival of longer period swell.

Gridded forecast highs Saturday look to mostly range from 89 to 92.
Surface based moisture remains plentiful enough to make it feel like
100 to 103 degrees. These heat index numbers though remain below
Heat Advisory Criteria. Little change for lows Saturday night,
ranging in the low to mid 70s. Upper 70s along the immediate
coast. /10

00Z issuance...Radar shows scattered shra/tsra tracking westward
over the region and expect these to continue into the evening
before a gradual decrease late in the night along and north of
I-10. A cluster of convection may bring brief impacts by way of
brief strong gusty winds and localized reductions to vsby to IFR
categories to KPNS thru 01Z. Away from storms, winds look to be
light from the northeast overnight with cigs at VFR categories (bases
at mid to high levels). /10

PREV DISCUSSION... /issued 434 PM CDT Fri Sep 11 2020/

NEAR TERM UPDATE /Now Through Saturday/...The near term period will
begin as a surface low pressure system, located over the Mississippi
Valley (with associated fronts over the ARKLATEX region and over the
Tennessee and lower Ohio valleys), slows and begins to weaken. Upper
level ridging will also persist over the southeastern CONUS today
but begin to break down through the day tomorrow. This is due to a
series of easterly waves, the first of which is centered over the
central Gulf of Mexico and is making its way westward. This
disturbance is not expected to bring much in the way of impacts to
our local area. Another tropical disturbance, upgraded to Tropical
Depression 19 late this afternoon, is expected to make its way over
Florida and enter the eastern Gulf coast through the day Saturday.
At this time, this system is expected to progress slowly to the
northwest over the eastern Gulf and strengthen into a tropical storm
late Saturday night into early Sunday morning. Make sure to monitor
the National Hurricane Center for updates to this system in regards
to track and intensity. In terms of local impacts for the near term,
a MODERATE RISK of rip currents will begin tonight and continue
through Saturday (with a HIGH RISK to follow) due to increased
swell. This will continue to be monitored.

For sensible weather, the aforementioned dynamics will overall
result in increasing chances of showers and storms through the
weekend. Isolated to scattered showers continue over the area with
higher coverage over southeast Mississippi late this afternoon.
Shower and storm activity will then decrease through this evening
over the land areas, being more focused over the open Gulf waters
and right along the coast overnight. Expecting activity to increase
through Saturday morning and be scattered to numerous over the land
areas by the afternoon. The greater deep layer moisture will move
west and be concentrated over southwest Alabama and southeast
Mississippi by Saturday afternoon. PWATs between 2.2-2.4 inches are
expected in these areas, whereas PWATs will be closer to 2 inches
over south-central Alabama and the western Florida Panhandle. Model
MLCAPE values are also generally between 1500-2000 J/kg during this
time. Did not stray too far from the blended guidance in terms of
PoPs for Saturday due ample moisture in place, but did keep higher
PoPs over southwest Alabama and southeast Mississippi because of the
better moisture over these areas.

Low temperatures tonight are expected to only decrease to the mid
70s north of I-10 and to the mid to upper 70s south (due to
increased moisture). Highs tomorrow will then be similar to today,
but perhaps a touch cooler because of increased cloud cover and rain
chances. Heat indices will remain below Heat Advisory Criteria
though, ranging from the lower to mid 100s. /26

SHORT TERM /Saturday night Through Monday night/...Per the
National Hurricane Center (NHC) track for Tropical Depression 19
(TD 19), TD19 will be located over the southeast Gulf early
Saturday evening and advances west-northwestward towards the north
central Gulf through Monday night, moving to roughly 40 miles
south of the Alabama coast. Please see the NHC for the latest
information regarding TD 19. As noted yesterday, there continues
to be a region of relatively drier deep layer air which is
advected across the forecast area on Sunday from the western
Atlantic/extreme southeast states. However, this will be offset by
abundant deep layer moisture associated with TD19 working into
the area on Sunday, and have opted to continue with likely pops
areawide for Sunday. Adding to the synoptic pattern will be a weak
frontal boundary which meanwhile approaches from the west to
northwest (associated with a surface low well off to the north)
and moves into southern Louisiana to across central Alabama into
central Georgia late Sunday night. The frontal boundary slowly
shifts closer to the coast through Monday night and will serve to
enhance coverage of precipitation over the area while TD19 nears
the Alabama coast. Will have likely to categorical pops for
Monday, with the higher pops over the southern half of the area
where the frontal boundary will contribute to precipitation
development. Locally heavy rainfall may be possible as early as
Sunday afternoon over portions of the western Florida panhandle,
with the potential for locally heavy rainfall then expanding over
much of the area on Monday, especially over the coastal counties.
This may result in localized flooding concerns as well. A Flash
Flood Watch may become necessary for portions of the area
beginning Monday. Highs on Sunday will be mostly in the upper 80s
then highs on Monday will be in the mid 80s. Lows range from the
lower 70s inland to the mid 70s at the coast. A high risk of rip
currents is expected during the period. /29

EXTENDED TERM /Tuesday Through Friday/...By Tuesday morning, TD19
will be located approximately 40 miles south of the Alabama coast
then moves slowly off into Louisiana through Wednesday, weakening
in the process. A frontal boundary will be located near the
southern portion of the forecast area (possibly further inland
depending on the track of TD19) and may be pushed into part of
the marine area on Wednesday or linger near the coast, depending
on the strength of a surface ridge over the southeastern states.
This pattern will support likely to categorical pops on Tuesday
and Wednesday along with the potential for locally heavy
rain/localized flooding especially over the coastal counties.
Scattered to numerous showers and storms will follow for Thursday,
then finally rain chances drop off to chance to good chance by
Friday. /29

MARINE...Tropical Depression 19 located between the Bahamas and
southern Florida will advance westward through Saturday then move
west-northwestward towards the north central Gulf coast through
early next week. Please see the National Hurricane Center for more
information regarding Tropical Depression 19.
