Morning Update...Windy conditions have continued along the coast
this morning, with sustained winds up to 20 mph and gusts up to
30-35 mph along the barrier islands. The 10Z XMR sounding showed
strong winds of 20-25 knots just 400-500 feet off the surface. As
the boundary layer mixes into this afternoon, these winds should
be brought down to the surface. For that, a Lake Wind Advisory has
been issued for the entire area. Specifically mentioned the
strongest winds along the barrier islands, where gusts up to 35
mph will be possible. It will take longer for winds to increase
inland, expecting that to occur after 1-2 PM this afternoon.
Scattered to numerous showers continue streaming onshore with deep
moisture in place from Melbourne south towards the Treasure Coast
and Lake Okeechobee region. Somewhat lower rain chances from
Kissimmee to New Smyrna Beach north, though still expecting
scattered showers to develop this afternoon.
Previous Discussion For Today...While the deep layer ridge
remains stationary along/ offshore the eastern U.S. seaboard, a
mid level inverted trough will move W-WNW along the S-SW flank of
the ridge across south FL and the Straits. An attendant weak area
of low pressure will develop over the NW Caribbean Sea and drift
NW toward the Yucatan Peninsula and Channel. An surface inverted
trough axis will extend NE from this area, coincident with mid
level feature. Another breezy day is on tap, especially for
coastal areas, with sustained winds near 20 mph and gusty.
Northern extent of a slug of higher PWAT air will cross the southern
third to half of the FL peninsula, which should result in slightly
higher diurnal POPs (50) there, compared to 40 farther north for all
but northern Lake/Volusia (30). TS chances remain isolated at best.
Lingering (mainly isolated) coastal shower threat again tonight.
Max temps similar to Sun, around 85F along the coast, U80s inland.
Conversely, mins in the L-M70s inland, U70s along the coast.
Hazardous surf conditions continue with rough choppy surf, a High
risk of rip currents, and a continued threat for minor coastal
flooding and beach erosion around the times of the next high tide,
which will occur later this morning from 1030 to 1100 AM.

Scattered showers with wind gusts up to 30 knots continue along
the coast from MLB south to SUA into this afternoon. Coverage of
showers is expected to be lower elsewhere, so have only included
VCSH at this time. Sustained winds to increase across the interior
this afternoon, reaching up to 15 knots with gusts up to 20-25
knots possible.

Sustained east-northeast winds of 20 mph will gust up to 30 to 35 mph along coastal areas of east central Florida today. Inland areas will see winds of 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 25 mph. This will cause hazardous conditions for boaters on area lakes, rivers, and the Intracoastal Waterway. .COASTAL FLOOD IMPACT... East-northeast winds of 20 knots with seas of 6 to 8 feet near the coast will combine with the highest tidal cycles of the year to enhance the potential for coastal flooding. Additional minor beach erosion and overtopping of some dunes is possible, leading to flooding at the coast. .WIND AND SEA IMPACT... Hazardous conditions continue across the Atlantic waters for small craft operators. Northeast to east winds of 20 to 25 knots gusting to 30 knots will continue, with seas of 7 to 10 feet. A Small Craft Advisory remains in effect for the local Atlantic. .RIP CURRENT IMPACT... There will be a HIGH risk of numerous strong rip currents at all east central Florida beaches today, especially between 200 PM this afternoon and 800 PM this evening, due to tidal effects. While the threat for rip currents is highest during the hours around low tide, rough surf will make beach conditions hazardous all day. Entering the water is not advised again today. .THUNDERSTORM IMPACT... Scattered showers are forecast to redevelop again from later this morning through this afternoon and move quickly west-southwest at 25 to 30 mph. An isolated storm with cloud to ground lightning strikes will be possible. Any fast-moving shower or storm could produce wind gusts of 35 to 40 mph. .FLOOD IMPACT... Heavy rainfall through this afternoon will lead to minor flooding of low-lying and poor drainage areas across coastal Martin County. Some potential for heavy rain also exists in Saint Lucie and Indian River Counties. .MARINE THUNDERSTORM GUST IMPACT... Wind gusts up to 35 to 40 knots will also be possible over the near shore Atlantic, Intracoastal waterway, and inland lakes, as showers and isolated lightning storms move rapidly toward the west. .RIVER FLOOD IMPACT... The Saint Johns River at Astor is forecast to remain in Minor Flood Stage, just below Moderate Flood, this week. Elsewhere, the Saint Johns River at Sanford and above Lake Harney, is forecast to stay within Action Stage, while at DeLand the river is forecast to remain just below Action Stage. Refer to daily Flood Statements from NWS Melbourne for the latest river levels and forecasts. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...TUESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY. Brisk east to northeast winds will continue this week, producing breezy conditions at the coast. Seas will remain high over the next several days, maintaining hazardous conditions for small craft operators over the local Atlantic waters.
