.CURRENTLY...
Tropical Storm Eta made landfall at Lower Matecumbe
Key around 11 pm last evening. Since then, it has moved to the
west- northwest overnight and is now centered about 40 miles north
or north- northwest of Key West. The Upper Keys got a thrashing,
with the peak measured wind gust of 71 mph occurring at Carysfort
Reef Light at 938 pm. It is safe to say that Key Largo and all of
the Upper Keys got solid tropical storm conditions. In contrast,
the Lower Keys dodged a bullet with the rain and wind, thanks to
being on the weaker left side of the tropical storm. The Lower
Keys have merely seen a few TS-force wind gusts at most.

We recently changed the Hurricane Warnings to Tropical Storm
Warnings. No hurricane conditions have been observed over the
Keys, and the movement of Eta away from the Keys during the
upcoming day eliminates any future possibility of hurricane
conditions. Nonetheless, Eta has finally attained a small cluster
of deep convection near its center overnight, and the NHC forecast
calls for Eta to slowly strengthen as it moves away from the Keys.
Even though TS conditions are not being observed at this moment
over most of the island chain, the prospect for some strengthening
supports the notion of stepping back to a Tropical Storm Warning
for the entire forecast domain. Through the day ahead, we will be
able to start trimming the TS Warning back from east to west

Will also step back from the Storm Surge Warning, which is meant
to accompany 3+ feet of surge. Instead, the three main tide gages
that we use have observed tidal anomalies of 1-2 feet overnight.
Have therefore changed over to a Coastal Flood Warning. The tide
gages have observed tide levels that are similar to some of this
year's worst king tide episodes.

.SHORT TERM...(Tonight through Wednesday)
Tropical Storm Eta will move west and then southwest tonight. By
the time its center gets about 100-150 miles west-southwest of the
Dry Tortugas, it will sit stationary or move slowly through at
least Wednesday morning. During the time, the Keys will remain in
breezy, confluent southeast flow, and a tail-like feature could
extend off Eta toward the Keys. Against the backdrop of a very
moist air mass, will carry 50-70 percent rain chances.

.LONG TERM...(Wednesday night through Sunday)
Later Wednesday into this weekend, Eta is forecast to slowly move
off to the N or NNE through the eastern Gulf while weakening a
little. In its wake, weak high pressure will nose in from the
Atlantic across the FL Peninsula. A little boundary layer drying
is forecast, but the mid-level drying will bring a significant
drop in PW values from Thu night through Saturday. PW values will
start this transition near record moist values for this time of
year. PW values will finish the transition slightly below the
climatological normal. So mid-level drying and the development of
weak high pressure over Florida will lessen convective coverage,
while also eliminating any small threat of thunder. By next
weekend, we will be left with much more common isolated coverage
for weak and low-topped showers.

.MARINE...
Tropical Storm Eta will head west through out deep Gulf waters
this morning. The Pulley Ridge buoy in the southeast Gulf is
currently observing 12-foot seas northwest of Eta's center. As Eta
pulls westward away from the waters this afternoon and tonight,
winds and seas will improve. The Hurricane Warning has been
cancelled and replaced with a Tropical Storm Warning. Even that
will get trimmed back from east to west this afternoon and
tonight.

Eta will turn up stationary or meander slowly over from tonight
through early Wednesday about 100-150 miles west of the Dry
Tortugas. This proximity is what continues to prompt use of the
tropical expressions of uncertainty through Wednesday over our
western waters.

From synopsis, at 4 am EST, the center of Tropical Storm Eta was
about 50 miles north-northwest of Key West. Eta was moving to the
west-northwest at 13 mph. The center will pass north of the Dry
Tortugas this morning, then slow down and meander about 100 to 150
miles west of the Dry Tortugas from tonight through at least
Wednesday morning. This will support fresh to strong southeast
breezes over Keys waters. Eta is forecast to move north then
northeast through the eastern Gulf late this week. In its wake,
weak high pressure will nose in across the Florida Peninsula
around Friday.

.AVIATION...
Tropical Storm Eta is located northwest of Key West and continues to
move away from the island chain. However, outer rainbands will
continue to affect the terminals, producing periods of heavy rain
and gusty winds. The timing of the rainbands is uncertain and
frequent TEMPOs and amendments can be expected. The passing squalls
will cause IFR vis and MVFR cigs, occasionally dropping to IFR cigs.
Winds S-SE at 15 to 20 knots with gusts to 25 to 30 knots,
occasionally higher during stronger cells.

.CLIMATE...
On this date in 2015, the daily record warm low temperature of
81F was recorded at Keys West. This is also the warmest low
temperature ever recorded in November.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for the Florida Keys and
adjacent coastal waters.

.DAY ONE...TODAY AND TONIGHT

Tropical Storm Eta is is forecast to move away from the Florida
Keys and into the southeastern Gulf of Mexico today and tonight.

Some impacts from Eta will linger across the Florida Keys today,
but will gradually decrease as Eta moves farther away from the
area. Remaining impacts will include coastal flooding as well as
possible tropical storm force winds, occurring mainly in gusts
with passing showers or squalls. Also, locally heavy rainfall will
be possible today, and an isolated tornado will remain possible
this morning.

Water levels have risen at some locations across the Keys during the
night due to strong winds associated with Eta. Coastal flooding is
ongoing in both the bayside and oceanside of the Upper Keys, and is
likely this morning across bayside portions of the Lower Keys as well.
Water levels will range up to 2 feet above the recent high tides.
Coastal flooding will continue through the high tide cycle this
morning, then should gradually decrease during the midday and afternoon
hours. Due to the movement of Eta away from the Keys, the Storm Surge
Warning has been cancelled and replaced with a Coastal Flood Warning.

Tropical storm force winds of 40 to 50 mph will remain possible across
the Keys today, mainly in gusts associated with showers and squalls.

Additional rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches will be possible across
the Keys during the next few days. This may aggravate saltwater

Isolated tornadoes will be possible as Eta moves away from the Keys
this morning.

Once Tropical Storm Eta moves farther westward into the Gulf of
Mexico later today or this evening, Small Craft Advisories will be
needed for all of the Keys coastal waters to replace the current
Tropical Storm Warning.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...TUESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY

Tropical Storm Eta is forecast to intensify into a hurricane and
move slowly northward over the eastern Gulf of Mexico from
Tuesday through Friday. This will maintain fresh to strong
southerly breezes and continued large seas across the Keys
coastal waters. Small Craft Advisories will likely be needed from
Tuesday through at least Thursday.
