.SYNOPSIS...
Seasonably cool and breezy conditions are expected to build into the
region Today into Monday with the next shot at widespread rain
arriving Wednesday.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
As of 330 AM: A lingering cool pool aided by today's showers may
support patchy dense fog until around daybreak mainly across
portions of North Carolina. Should see skies quickly clear east of
the mountains later this morning.
The energetic upper low responsible for yesterdays severe weather
will slowly wobble through the region through tonight. A good supply
of low level moisture, upslope flow and ample synoptic support will
bring scattered showers across the mountains through the evening
hours, possibly making the trek into the North Carolina Piedmont at
times from the late afternoon into the early evening. Just enough
cold air may wrap in with the low to provide a mix with or turn over
to snow briefly tomorrow evening above 4000 feet with a dusting
possible above 6000 feet. A 50+ mph low level jet accompanied by the
upper low and tightening a surface pressure gradient will support
winds gusting to 50 mph across the northern mountains starting this
evening, prompting a wind advisory to be issued with this package.
Elsewhere, expected to see breezy southwest winds up to 35 mph
before the trough axis moves through becoming west and weakening
tonight. Seasonably cool temperatures are expected due to the
proximity fo the upper low, feeling a bit cooler because of breezy
conditions.

.SHORT TERM /MONDAY THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT/...
As of 310 am Sunday: With upper trough expected to pull away from
the East Coast early in the short term, heights will be on the rise
throughout the period...resulting in a warming trend. Nevertheless,
one more day of below-climo temps is expected Mon and Mon night. In
fact, with nearly ideal radiational cooling conditions expected, at
least patchy frost is possible across the mountain valleys Tue
morning. Otherwise, the short term will be dry and relatively
pleasant, with temps forecast to warm a bit above climo Tue/Tue
night. Moisture and forcing associated with the next storm system
will be close enough to warrant token slight chance pops across
western portions of the forecast area by daybreak Wed.

.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
As of 315 am Sunday: At the start of the medium range, a vertically
stacked cyclone will be in the process of rolling across the Great
Lakes region, with associated frontal zone extending into the TN
Valley. Attendant well-forced band of showers and embedded
thunderstorms is expected to impact our forecast area mainly Wed
afternoon and evening. Given the time of year and model depiction of
a rather dynamic upper system, respectable frontal circulation, and
favorable time of day with respect to the diurnal heating cycle, we
are leery of the severe convective chances during this time frame.
Nevertheless, global models are rather consistent in skirting
substantive buoyancy south and east of the area Wed afternoon/
evening. Thus, severe weather is hardly a slam dunk.
Otherwise, pops peak at categorical circa 00Z Thu, with drying
commencing by 12Z Thu, other than token small chances for NW flow
showers across the NC mtns. The remainder of the forecast period is
expected to be dry. Much of the medium range is forecast to see
temps no warmer than climatology. However, quickly rising heights
late in the week are expected to allow for quite the warming trend
next weekend, with Saturday maxes forecast to be a solid 5 degrees
above climo... placing them at or above 80 across much of the
Piedmont and foothills.

.AVIATION /08Z SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
At KCLT: IFR and lower cigs/vsbys will prevail across much of NC
until 09-11Z when a cold front should provide return to VFR. Gusty
west to northwest winds likely through this evening, except into
tonight across the mountains. -SHRA likely at times across the
mountains with a chc of a brief -shra for NC piedmont locations
including KCLT between 18Z and 23Z.
Outlook: Generally VFR conditions will prevail through Tuesday
before another storm system brings rain chances and restrictions
back on Wednesday.
