.SHORT TERM...(Today and Tonight)

Saw dense fog develop in some areas overnight, mainly east of
Interstate 29, though visibilities have begun to improve as the fog
has lifted into more of a stratus deck. There will still be at least
a risk  of patchy fog over that area through mid morning before
winds begin to increase.

Otherwise, a surface trough will deepen over the High Plains through
the early part of the day and then move eastward with an increasing
southerly flow over our area, and with warm air advection it will be
much milder than recent days. Look for highs in the upper 20s to mid
30s. With a tightening surface gradient and increasing momentum
transfer winds, it will be somewhat breezy in the afternoon, more so
through the central and eastern portions of the CWA.

By this evening an upper level shortwave trough slides into the
region, and midlevel warm air advection in advance of the feature
may kick off some light snow for parts of the area. Models continue
an eastward trend with the precipitation threat, so it now appears
that the legitimate pop chances will be confined to our far eastern
couple row of counties of northwestern IA/southwestern MN. Any snow
accumulation would be a half an inch or less in those areas. The
departing upper level shortwave will draw colder air into the
region, with lows tonight in the upper single digits and teens.

.LONG TERM...(Tuesday through Sunday)

Cold air advection will continue for the early part of Tuesday, and
will see only minor recovery in temperatures from morning lows, with
highs in the mid teens north to lower to mid 20s south. Midlevel
warm air advection returns to the region on Tuesday night as another
upper level wave slides across the Northern Plains. This will again
bring light snow chances to the area for Tuesday night into Early
Wednesday, and although there are some model differences, the
consensus is to keep the better chances primarily to the north of
our area. That said, still could see up to half an inch north of
Interstate 90 during that time frame. The passage of this trough
will bring reinforcing cold air to the region for Wednesday and
Thursday, with highs generally single digits and teens, and lows on
Wednesday night dropping below zero in most areas.

Still looking at the potential for a more impactful system for
Thursday night into Friday as another more significant upper level
trough moves into the central CONUS. There remains differences in
the models with the specifics of this system, though all would
indicate the potential for accumulating snow for at least parts of
the area during that time period. As would typically be expected,
this would be followed by colder temperatures by next weekend.

MVFR/IFR conditions in areas of fog and stratus through late
morning, then visibilities will improve for the afternoon. Even
though visibilities will improve, stratus will persist into

transitioning to west/northwesterly late tonight.
