.Recent heavy rainfall associated with thunderstorms continues to 
cause flooding at river points in northwest Minnesota and along the 
Red River north of Grand Forks.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Safety message - Turn around, don't drown. Don't travel through 
flooded areas. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring. All

Thunderstorms moving into and across northeastern ND will continue
to interact near stationary convective cluster over the northern
Red River Basin through the next few hours. Current convection is
feeding on a residual pool of some 2500 j/kg CAPE and abundant low
to mid level moisture, with a cool pool aloft. Thus an additional
1-2 of rain to an area that has received widespread 1-3 inch
amounts with some very localized 4+ inch values... and an
increased risk of flash flooding, overland flooding, and increases
to already swollen riverine flows. WPC analyses suggest that
extensive cloud cover across central ND will inhibit further
redevelopment there and for the time being. However frontal zone
redevelopment and shortwave energy support should kick later
today, further west, and contribute to late day storms over much
of the same area.

.SHORT TERM...(Today through Sunday)

Ongoing convection in far northeast ND and far northwest MN attm
will limit the discussion. Thunderstorms remain anchored over the
northern Red River Basin, off the east side of a high CAPE bulge,
and where overnight rainfall values are ranging from 1 to 4
inches, possibly as high as 6 inches in spots. Storms should
continue to weaken through this morning though CAMS have not been
able to pick up on the forcing and thus show little forecast skill
attm.

Meanwhile, convection continues to develop in portions of western
and central ND, west of the surface CAPE bulge, and where guidance
shows at least some widely scattered tstms persisting through
midday. CAMS favor an early afternoon lull in convective activity
with more organized development this evening as a shortwave ejects
through eastern MT into North Dakota, and a more favorable shear
profile is able to develop across eastern ND into northwest MN.
Thus SPC SWODY1 has a Slight Risk for severe weather across
eastcentral and northeast ND, into northwest MN, for later today
and tonight. Heavy rains and flooding will also be a concern.

Storm activity should persist Saturday night into Sunday as
southwest flow aloft and deep low level moisture flow persist.

.LONG TERM...(Sunday night through Friday)

Active weather persists Sunday night through Friday, with
multiple opportunities for showers and thunderstorms. Temperatures
will climb into the middle to upper 80s with lows in the 60s. The
chances for impactful weather will remain moderate to high
through the extended forecast, with a risk for strong to severe
thunderstorms and flash flooding.

Sunday night and Monday: Thunderstorms should continue moving
through the area Sunday night into Monday morning, with most
activity shifting into and across northern Minnesota after
midnight. The potential for strong to severe thunderstorms, as
well as heavy rain over already saturated and/or flooding ground
remains a concern.

Tuesday through Friday: Another shortwave will move across the
region Tuesday into Wednesday across the upper reaches of a
weakening ridge. Thunderstorms will be possible Tuesday afternoon
through the evening and overnight into Wednesday. At this time,
ensemble members show quite a bit of disagreement with the global
deterministic guidance. Much of the model difference is driven by
differences in shortwave timing, with slightly better agreement
regarding strength. Another weak shortwave is highlighted for late
next week, with additional thunderstorm chances.
