FOR HARRIS COUNTY...

At 340 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Cataula, or
near Hamilton, moving northwest at 15 mph.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

Locations impacted include...
Hamilton, Waverly Hall, Ellerslie, Mountain Hill, Cataula, Bartletts
Ferry Dam, Mulberry Grove, Whitesville-Pine Lake and Lake Harding.

..Morning Forecast Discussion for Sunday, May 24th, 2020...

SHORT TERM /Today through Monday/...

Main concern in the short term period is likelihood and intensity of
diurnal convection. Weak S to SW flow in place with weak negatively-
tilted upper trough now fcst develop over eastern GOM. Relatively
rich deep moisture should feed into area with this pattern with more
clouds and low diurnal ranges of temps.

Meanwhile this morning, area of SHRA/TSRA finally diminishing over
west GA and ATL metro. Was not handled well by hires models. Clouds
should diminish later this morning and only small chance for
influence on afternoon convection today. Latest guidance not showing
much consensus for any one particular area, should see a little
greater coverage over north GA and NE mountains but not much.
Greatest coverage expected between 4-9 PM but could linger again
past midnight. On Monday, wedge front more pronounced and with drier
air moving in and more clouds and scattered-widespread SHRA/TSRA,
temps should be a bit cooler.

Convection should not be too strong but could see storms with very
heavy rainfall today and Monday. PW values 1.6ish today but will be
increasing quite a bit on Monday depending on evolution of
upper/sfc low over FL region.

LONG TERM /Monday Night through Saturday/...

The extended forecast is expected to be a wet one with precip
chances in every time period and the nearest break in store after
next weekend in a couple model runs. Synoptically, the subtropical
jet will be stationed much further north, with a cutoff, low
pressure system that will be stationed over Texas day after day,
through nearly the entire long term period. Combined with a high
pressure ridge over the western Atlantic, will place the Gulf
states, the SOuthern Plains, and the Midwest into a warm, moist flow
of air coming up from the Gulf. Showers and thunderstorms are
expected each day, with chances oscillating with the diurnal
pattern.

The only tweak to this pattern looks to occur on Tuesday, at the
beginning of the long term where a wave of increased Gulf moisture
will combine with a weak wedge front from high pressure sneaking
down the mid-Atlantic and Carolina coastline. Dense sky cover on
Tuesday will keep highs in the low- to mid-70s with the absence of
solar radiation, which in turn will keep thunderstorm chances
lowered but not nonexistent. Recovery is expected to begin Wednesday
with conditions beyond expected to have highs in the 80s, lows in
the, and rain chances between 40-60 percent each day with scattered
thunderstorms.

18Z Update...

VFR conditions are expected to predominate across most of the
forecast area through this forecast period outside of scattered
convection. Will likely see some MVFR or lower ceilings developing
over upstate South Carolina by 02-06Z, expanding southwestward into
eastern portions of the area by 06-09Z. Right now, I do not think we
will see these ceilings pushing west into any TAF sites other than
KAHN. Areas of MVFR or lower visibilities are likely as well, but I
do not expect visibility to drop below VFR levels at any of the TAF
sites. Winds will be east to southeast 6kt or less through 12Z,
increasing to 6-10kt after. Isolated to scattered convection likely
through the period, with best coverage 20Z-04Z.

medium/high confidence other elements.

Scattered to numerous thunderstorms are possible Monday through
Saturday, mainly in the afternoons and evenings. Possible hazards
with stronger thunderstorms may include frequent lightning,
periods of heavy rain, strong wind gusts, and small hail.

was nearly stationary.

           light...unsecured objects. Heavy rain may cause temporary
           street flooding especially in poor drainage areas.
