Day 1 Discussion ---------------- Gusty southwest winds and low relative humidity will create elevated to near-critical fire weather conditions across much of west central and southwest Kansas from late this morning through late afternoon. Outdoor burning is discouraged. Strong to marginally severe thunderstorms will be possible in south central and eastern portions of southwest Kansas late this afternoon into this evening. The strongest storms will be capable of up to quarter size hail and gusty winds up to 60 mph. A brief period of light snow will be possible in vicinity of the I-70 corridor late tonight with minimal accumulations expected, if any at all. At 448 PM CST, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near Dodge City, moving north at 25 mph. Nickel size hail and wind gusts up to 50 mph will be possible with this storm. Locations impacted include... Dodge City, Wright and Ft. Dodge. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm, and may lead to localized flooding.
