...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL MIDNIGHT CST
FOR BARBER AND SOUTHEASTERN PRATT COUNTIES...

At 1135 PM CST, severe thunderstorms were located along a line
extending from near Isabel to 7 miles southwest of Medicine Lodge,
moving east at 40 mph.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and penny size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

Locations impacted include...
Medicine Lodge, Kiowa, Sharon, Sawyer, Hazelton, Isabel and Cairo.

The storms which prompted the warning have weakened below severe
limits, and no longer pose an immediate threat to life or property.
Therefore, the warning will be allowed to expire.  However gusty
winds are still possible with these thunderstorms.

WV imagery indicates an upper level shortwave trough of low pressure
moving east out of the Colorado Rockies into the Western High Plains.
Near the surface, a cold front is pushing southeast across south
central Kansas into northern Oklahoma.

.SHORT TERM...(This evening through Tuesday)
Issued at 111 PM CST Mon Nov 9 2020

A cold front currently extends from Hamilton county NE to Ellis county.
This cold front will continue to surge southward through the rest of
the afternoon and evening. Some mid level cu is developing along the
front. This indicates some mid level instability across some of the
forecast area. Mesoanalysis shows about 500 J/kg of CAPE. This may
peak up to 800 J/kg, but am not expecting any higher than this.

Bulk shear is quite strong. Mean cloud bearing layer winds are parallel
to the sfc boundary. As a result, expect storms to develop quickly
upscale tonight. Some low to mid level capping still exists. As a result,
much of the activity is not expected until the mid evening hours.

The best chance for storms will be east of Highway 283. There is some
weak DCAPE present as well. In combination with the line development
and DCAPE, some marginally strong to severe outflows will be possible
with the storms. Some hail up to the size of quarters may be possible
as well this evening.

Low level cold air advection will begin through the overnight hours.
There may be enough CAA for some light snow showers across west-central
Kansas. Little, if any snow amounts are expected through tomorrow morning.

For Tuesday, post-frontal stratus is likely during the morning. These
clouds will eventually erode off to the northeast. Much cooler highs
are expected in the wake of the front with values peaking in the 50s.
Much of the day will be dry.

.LONG TERM...(Tuesday night through Monday)
Issued at 111 PM CST Mon Nov 9 2020

Weak high pressure will prevail over the Central Plains Wednesday. The
net result is continued fairly cool highs with values still in the
50s. Winds shouldn't be too bad Wednesday as a weak MSLP gradient prevails
across the state.

More of the same is expected on Thursday. Temperatures will continue
to remain seasonal with a dry forecast continuing.

Attention then turns to Friday. A large UL trof will approach the region
from the west. A warm front will lift northward through the day. This
front is expected to eventually stall out across the state. Showers
and thunderstorms may develop along this boundary Friday evening. The
highest pops will continue to remain across the eastern zones.

Beyond this, Kansas will remain in west to northwest flow aloft. The
will result in a dry forecast for the entire region. A dry fropa is
possible over the weekend.

.AVIATION...(For the 00Z TAFS through 00Z Tuesday evening)
Issued at 536 PM CST Mon Nov 9 2020

Scattered thunderstorms were ongoing near a surface cold front
that was moving south of Dodge City at 23z Monday and approaching
the Liberal area. Behind this cold front a deep layer of low
level moisture in the 500 to 2000ft AGL level was spreading south
as north winds at 15 to 20 knots develop. These gusty north winds
and low IFR ceiling can be expected to linger through the
remainder of the night as the cold front tracks south into
northern Oklahoma. The northerly winds will decrease towards
daybreak and the low clouds will gradually give way to clearing
conditions between 12z and 18z Tuesday.

Gusty southwest winds and low relative humidity will create
elevated to near-critical fire weather conditions across much of
west central and southwest Kansas from late this morning through
late afternoon. Outdoor burning is discouraged.

Strong to marginally severe thunderstorms will be possible in
south central and eastern portions of southwest Kansas late this
afternoon into this evening. The strongest storms will be capable
of up to quarter size hail and gusty winds up to 60 mph.

A brief period of light snow will be possible in vicinity of the
I-70 corridor late tonight with minimal accumulations expected,
if any at all.
