.SHORT TERM...(This evening through Saturday night)

Latest water vapor loop was showing a shortwave moving through
Montana with an associated frontal boundary moving through
Montana. Meanwhile, the gusty winds are expected to persist early
this evening across the Arlington area due to good pressure falls
ahead of the frontal boundary. This frontal boundary boundary
should push through areas east of the Laramie Range this evening
which should allow for the Arlington wind speeds to relax
somewhat. However, we will see an uptick in the winds by 15Z
tomorrow as pressure falls develop in the central Plains. Therefore,
we have decided to keep the High Wind Warning in effect for that
area through 00Z Saturday. It will be a somewhat cooler day
tomorrow with breezy conditions. Our attention then turns to
Saturday night as a plume of moisture streams into Wyoming. This
combined with west-southwest flow will set the stage for good
upslope flow over the Sierra and Snowy Mountain Ranges. Could get
more significant snowfall totals for the mountains in this
persistent pattern. As a result, we have issued a Winter Storm
Watch for those zones.

The fast zonal flow aloft Sunday will become more amplified Monday
and Tuesday as shortwave energy digs a large scale upper trough
over the eastern 2/3 of the CONUS. Differences exist between the
GFS and ECMWF with energy cutting off and forming a closed low
beneath a Western CONUS upper ridge mid-week.
Elevated CAG-CPR and CAG-BRX gradients and 50-60 kt 700-800mb
flow will result in strong westerly winds Sunday ahead of an
approaching Pacific trough and cold front. High Wind headlines
may be necessary once again. Winds diminish following the cold
frontal passage. Stronger orographic flow will develop west of
the Laramie Range by Sunday morning, with snow showers increasing
in coverage and intensity. Snow will spread out onto the high
plains Sunday night and Monday, however accumulations will be
light. The Snowy/Sierra Madre mountains could measure over two
feet of snow by Monday evening. Snow showers will linger over
southern portions of the CWA into Tuesday evening, followed by a
dry weather Wednesday and Thursday.
Temperatures will start off the period mild with highs Sunday
in the 40s to lower 50s, dropping into the 20s and 30s for the
first half of the week, then moderating into the 30s and 40s
Thursday.

VFR conditions will prevail overnight at all terminals. The latest
satellite imagery does continue to show mid-level and high cigs
that will persist overnight as they move from west to east. A
temporary lull in wind speeds will change by morning for RWL as
gusty winds up to 25-30 knots will again start up. Blowing snow on
the ground looks to be likely for RWL by Saturday afternoon.
Gusty winds for LAR and CYS will also increase by late morning
around 16-18Z up to 25 knots. The winds will spill over the
southern Panhandle by 18Z tomorrow, specifically SNY. Other
Panhandle terminals will see wind gusts 15 knots or less through
tomorrow.

Gusty winds will continue along the I-80 corridor near Arlington
tonight and Saturday. Otherwise, a cold front is expected to move
through the area tonight. This boundary may spark a few snow
showers in northern Platte and Goshen counties. Otherwise, dry
conditions are expected across the Wyoming Plains and Nebraska
this weekend. More heavy snowfall is expected to move into the
mountains Saturday night through Monday. Minimum relative
humidities will generally range from 20 to 40 percent in the
Nebraska Panhandle with 50 to 70 percent across much of Wyoming
except for the North Platte Valley where relative humidities will
range from 35 to 45 percent.
