CONUS, upper trough over the High Plains, and upper ridge over the
eastern Pacific. A west to northwest flow aloft prevailed. A cold
front extended from eastern NE through northwest KS and southern
CO. High pressure was centered over southwest WY with a modest
west to east gradient. Westerly winds were strongest along the I-80
corridor between Rawlins and Laramie, with gusts between 40 and 55
mph. Skies were mostly clear to partly cloudy with temperatures in
the teens and 20s.

Forecast concerns this period will deal with strong winds today
and Sunday, and potential for significant snow accumulations for
the mountains.

Short range models/ensembles are in good agreement with the
continuation of a fast west to northwest flow aloft this weekend.
The CAG-CPR and CAG-BRX 700/850mb gradients range from 55 to 65
mtrs today, lower to 45 to 55 mtrs tonight, and increase to 55 to
65 mtrs Sunday. Westerly 700-800mb flow of 50 to 60 kt will
prevail through Sunday. High Wind Warning for WY Zone 110 remains
in effect until 6 PM this evening. Additional high wind headlines
may need to be considered for WY 106 as well as WY Zones 110, 116
and 117 for Sunday.

A potent upper level jet will dive southeast into the central Rockies
by Sunday. Increasing moisture, large scale lift in the left front
quadrant of the jet and strong upslope flow will result in moderate
to heavy mountain snowfall. There is the potential for up to three
feet of snow over the highest peaks of the Sierra Madre and Snowy
Ranges from tonight through Monday. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph
will produce blowing snow and very low visibility, making for dangerous
winter conditions for outdoor recreationists. After collaborating
with WFOs GJT and BOU, upgraded the Winter Storm Watch to a Warning
for WY Zones 112 and 114. Snow showers will spread north and east
across the Laramie Range and onto the high plains Sunday afternoon
and evening. Accumulations will range from one to three inches lower
elevations to 6 to 10 inches for the North Laramie Range. Snow will
taper off Monday evening.

High temperatures today behind last night/s cold frontal passage
will be 10 to 15 degrees cooler. Downslope winds ahead of the next
trough and cold front will push the mercury into the 40s and lower
50s Sunday afternoon. Colder temperatures Monday after Sunday
night/s frontal passage with highs in the 20s and 30s.

Differences gleaned from the medium range models/ensembles are not
as significant as 24 to 48 hrs ago with respect to the large scale
pattern. Northwest flow aloft early in the week becomes near zonal
mid to late week. With the main belt of westerlies displaced north
of the region, expect little in the way of sensible weather during
the period. A weak pressure gradient will keep winds light for the
most part, except for Friday when winds become breezy ahead of the
next Pacific trough moving into the Great Basin. Temperatures will
average 10 below seasonal normals Tuesday and Wednesday, then warm
to above normal Friday.

Winds will begin to increase and be gusty at times for the WY
terminals this morning. Gusts 25-32 knots possible for the WY
terminals this morning. RWL looks to stay gusty with winds from
the southwest. Cigs at RWL will begin to decrease by this evening
as the next disturbance creates the chance for snow showers after
00Z Sunday. VFR conditions will prevail at all terminals. Guidance
on winds for the SNY terminal have backed off in regard to wind
speed, thus have lowered the gusts to 20 knots by 18Z today. The
remainder of the Panhandle will see lower winds of 12 knots or
less. Cigs will creep down to lower BKN/OVC heights by this
evening, but SKC expected for a majority of the day until that
time.

Fire weather concerns will be low through the weekend. Dry and
windy conditions are expected today for much of southeast Wyoming,
with the strongest winds between Rawlins and Laramie. Snow showers
will develop this afternoon over the Sierra Madre and Snowy Mountains
this afternoon, and eventually spread north and east to the Laramie
Range later tonight and Sunday. Snow will be heavy at times over the
mountains, with winds gusting to 50 mph creating blowing snow. Snow
will taper off Monday night, with dry and cool weather expected
through the end of the week. Minimum relative humidities will range
from 30 to 40 percent over the high plains.
