Issued at 850 PM MDT Tue Aug 4 2020

Updated forecast for late this evening and tonight to allow the
Red Flag Warning for most of Carbon County to expire on time.
Severe thunderstorm Watch was cancelled a little earlier since
most of the severe convection was located across Colorado and west
central Nebraska. There is another line of strong thunderstorms
though across far eastern Carbon county, which is likely producing
some strong wind gusts and small hail. This line will gradually
push east and southeast towards the Laramie Range. High res models
shows this line quickly weakening as it pushes into the high
plains tonight. Kept 20 to 35 percent POP for scattered showers
and isolated thunder until midnight, with POP below 10 percent
after midnight. Do not expect this line to get stronger as it
moves east along the I-25 corridor.

.SHORT TERM...(This evening through Friday)
Issued at 330 PM MDT Tue Aug 4 2020

Lots going on with the weather across southeast WYoming and
Nebraska Panhandle over the next several days. Severe storms today
and tomorrow...followed by critical fire weather conditions
expanding eastward through the week.

Currently...Surface low pressure over north central Colorado this
afternoon. Surface trough extends from the low near Denver...to
the south Laramie Range...to Muddy Gap. Tds in the 50s from
Douglas to Cheyenne with mid 50s in the Panhandle. West of the
trough...afternoon humidity down below 15 percent with Tds in the
upper 20s and low 30s. In a previous update...added the Snowy and
Sierra Madre Ranges in to the Red Flag Warnings for this
afternoon. Afternoon SB CAPEs near 2500 J/KG on Mesoanalysis Page
with sfc-6km shear 40 to 45kts. Radar imagery showing severe
storms just south of the Wyoming/Colorado state line currently
along Highway 287 south of Laramie.

Yet to be seen what these severe storms south of the state line
does to our chances for severe storms. Hires guidance continues to
show a severe storm on simulated radar moving through Laramie
County as it comes off the Laramie Range. Outflow interactions
could expand coverage of storms this afternoon.

Looks like we begin to see an increased low level cap after 01Z
with convection waning after that time.

Perhaps a better severe threat Wednesday as a shortwave flattens
the ridge and front slides further east into the Panhandle. Looks
like the severe threat shifts further east into the Panhandle.
NAMNest simulated radar definitely more active tomorrow afternoon
over today.

Further west...700mb winds on the increase as drier air filters in
and shifts eastward. Looks like critical fire weather conditions
will be spreading east with all FWZs in Carbon County in a Red
Flag Warning.

Critical fire weather conditions expand east into the Laramie
valley (FWZ 308) Thursday as 700mb winds increase to 30-35kts.
Confidence growing for critical fire weather conditions both
Thursday and Friday that could extend into the Panhandle Friday.
850mb winds over the Panhandle 25-30kts.

.LONG TERM...(Friday through Monday)
Issued at 314 AM MDT Tue Aug 4 2020

A rather dry and warm pattern expected over the area this period
as an upper high builds over the southern plains Friday and holds
in place through early next week. This will limit moisture over
the CWA with monsoonal flow mostly cut off. As a result chances
for convection look to be pretty low with the best chance being
Saturday afternoon and evening as the CWA gets clipped by a
shortwave passing to the north. Temperatures generally above
seasonal averages through the period but not by a lot.

Issued at 542 PM MDT Tue Aug 4 2020

VFR conditions continue for all Wyoming and Nebraska Panhandle
sites. HiRes model suggest scattered thunderstorm remain in our
region until 07Z. KSNY and KCYS have the best chances for
thunderstorms ending around 06Z-07Z. Wind gust will persist both
KSNY and KCYS up to 25kts. Otherwise, the rest of the remaining
TAF sites will most likely avoid thunderstorm chances. Cloud bases
will trend low ranging from SCT to BKN. Tomorrow another chance of
widespread severe thunderstorms arrives in the afternoon hours
which could also lead to increase wind gust and decrease
visibility temporarily.

Issued at 300 PM MDT Tue Aug 4 2020

Critical fire weather conditions this afternoon for parts of
Carbon County with gusty winds and low humidity. Getting close in
FWZ 306 near Saratoga. Will continue the Red Flag Warnings as they
are for the remainder of today. Stronger winds Wednesday as
surface front moves east and westerly winds increase to the west
of the front. Critical fire weather conditions expected again
Wednesday afternoon with Red Flag Warnings in effect for FWZ 303
through 307. Dry and breezy conditions expanding east as front
exits into Nebraska through Friday. Looking at widespread critical
fire weather conditions for most of southeast WYoming and Nebraska
Panhandle by the end of the week.

Widely scattered thunderstorms will develop over the Laramie
Range around noon and move eastward into the High Plains by
mid-afternoon, reaching the western Nebraska Panhandle by late
afternoon. Severe storms capable of producing large hail and
strong gusty winds are possible.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...WEDNESDAY THROUGH MONDAY

Scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms will develop
through Thursday, becoming more isolated and confined to the
mountains Friday and Saturday. Strong to severe thunderstorms
