...Extended Period of Significant Coastal Flooding Expected Into
Early Next Week...

.SYNOPSIS...
Strong high pressure will gradually build into the area over
the weekend and will persist through next week.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
Today: High pressure will continue to build from the north as
most of the low-level moisture pushing to the southeast closer
to the GA coast. Abundant high clouds expected however due to
upper troughing/jetting. Could see a few showers, especially
near the GA coast where the best moisture convergence is
expected but overall it will be dry. Temperatures will be
unseasonably cool with highs in the mid to upper 70s, although a
stiff northeast breeze will make it feel chillier.

Tonight: Unseasonably cool temperatures expected due to cold air
advection from building high pressure to the north. Could see a
few showers, especially near the GA coast, but most areas will
remain dry. Lows should range from the mid to upper 50s inland
to the mid to upper 60s at the coast, warmest in GA, with a
decent northeast breeze making it feel a bit cooler however.

Lake Winds: A Lake Wind Advisory remains in effect for Lake
Moultrie through at least this morning as vertical mixing of
strong low- level winds over the warm lake waters supports gusts
to around 25 kt. Waves will build to 1-2 ft, highest central
and southwest portions. The Advisory may need to be extended
beyond noon.

.SHORT TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
Sunday through Tuesday: A surface high pressure centered over the
great lakes will gradually deepen and slowly shift eastward this
weekend. As ridging persists across the southeast, a wedge pattern
will set up and the pressure gradient will continue to tighten.
Gusty northeast winds are likely to prevail along the coast through
Tuesday. Due to substantial subsidence and lack of instability,
precipitation is not expected across most of the area. Lingering
moisture will push further from the coast on Sunday and an isolated
shower cannot be ruled out along or just offshore the far southeast
Georgia coast. Monday and Tuesday look to be rainfree with plenty of
sunshine.

Winds are expected to remain gusty over Lake Moultrie through
Sunday. For now, have capped winds at 23 knots but a Lake Wind
Advisory could be needed.

High and low temperatures will continue to be below normal by about
10 degrees for this time of year. Generally, high temperatures will
be in the low to mid 70s each day. Lows will be in the low to mid
50s inland with upper 50s/low 60s along the coast.

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY/...
Strong high pressure will prevail across the area. By Wednesday,
high temperatures will be back to normal for this time of year.
Low temperatures will gradually increase each day to mid to
upper 60s inland and low 70s closer to the coast by the end of
the week. While there is still a bit of uncertainty, low
pressure could impact the region by late week. Slight chance
POPs have been introduced starting Thursday. The best chance for
precip looks to be Friday into Saturday when deeper moisture
moves into the area.

.AVIATION /08Z SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
High confidence for the 06Z TAFs at KCHS/KSAV. Conditions will
mostly be VFR, although can't rule out some MVFR cigs at times,
mainly around 15Z. Strong NE winds are expected with gusts near
20 kt at times, especially late morning/early afternoon.

Extended Aviation Outlook: MVFR is possible during periods of
low clouds on Sunday. Gusty northeast 20-25 kt winds could
persist into Monday. VFR will then prevail.

.MARINE...
Today/Tonight: Strong high pressure to the north will keep a
tight pressure gradient in place across the SC/GA waters with
solid Small Craft Advisory conditions expected across the
nearshore waters and in Charleston Harbor with gales in the
offshore waters. There is a small risk that a Gale Warning will
be needed even for the nearshore waters at some point.

Sunday through Thursday: As deep high pressure builds across the
area, the pressure gradient will tighten. Gusty northeast winds up
to up to 25-30 knots are expected across all nearshore waters with
seas up to 10 ft. Small Craft Advisories will remain in effect
through late Tuesday/early Wednesday morning. Similar gusty winds
can be expected in the Charleston Harbor with conditions improving
by late Monday night.

For the Outer Georgia waters, a Gale Warning will remain in effect
through late Monday. 15 foot seas will be possible with gusty
northeast winds around 35-40 knots. As conditions gradually improve
a Small Craft Advisory will be needed through Thursday morning for
elevated winds and seas.

Rip Currents: A high risk of rip currents is expected through
at least Sunday due to strong northeast winds and large swells
from distant Hurricane Teddy. An elevated risk could continue
through early next week.

High Surf: Building seas over the weekend could lead to 5+ foot
breaking wave heights at the coast and thus High Surf
Advisories could be needed. This will likely lead to some beach
erosion.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
Significant coastal flooding during each of the daily high tide
cycles is expected through at least Monday along the southern
SC/northern GA coasts due to a combination of higher than normal
astronomical tides, river discharge, swells from a distant
hurricane and strong NE winds. Tidal departures are increasing
quite a bit this morning and are likely to remain high through
early next week. Peak water levels are likely to be comparable
to the October 2015 event in GA and the Thanksgiving 2018
event in SC, although may even surpass both these events. It's
worthy to note that at least minor flooding is likely for
many hours each day around each of the high tide cycles, and
flooding may occur well inland along rivers and creeks.
