.SYNOPSIS...
Low pressure well east of the Delmarva Peninsula this afternoon
will continue to push offshore tonight. High pressure will move
across the eastern seaboard on Thursday. Another low will
quickly approach the region late Thursday night and Friday and
may bring some light rain near the south coast. Yet another
system approaches from the Great Lakes will bring rain late
Saturday night into Sunday evening. Scattered showers will
linger Monday, then mainly dry and seasonable conditions for
Tuesday and Wednesday.

&&

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM THURSDAY MORNING/...

As the high pressure ridge extended SW from the Maritimes
across central and northern New England into NY and PA today,
low pressure has pushed off the Delmarva coast. This low will
shift E-NE through tonight, passing well S and E of the 40N/70W
benchmark. There is a rather tight pressure gradient between the
ridge across the region and the low, but appears the best shot
for gusty winds will remain S of the region. May see some gusts
up to around 20 to 25 kt early tonight across the outer Cape and
on the islands. The gradient should relax as the low exits to
the western Atlantic overnight, allowing the winds to back to
northerly and diminish.

The bands of light rain that moved onshore across the region
thanks to the E-NE wind flow have tended to dissipate, though
there are still some spotty light rain moving onshore mainly
near and south of the Mass Pike as seen on the latest KBOX 88D
radar imagery. The precip is moving steadily westward, so they
should not last too long. The rain associated with the passing
low should push offshore by around 06Z or so.

With the winds backing around to N overnight, will see colder
air filter in across the region even as clouds linger especially
across central and eastern areas. Expect lows in the mid to
upper 20s inland to the lower-mid 30s across the coastal plain.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM THURSDAY MORNING THROUGH THURSDAY NIGHT/...

Thursday...

High pressure will extend out of the Maritimes across New
England and down to the Carolinas. Winds will start off from the
N-NE at 15- 20 kt along the immediate coast, becoming light
northerly well inland. As the ridge axis moves across during the
day, winds will diminish as they become light northerly.

Skies will start off cloudy, but the clearing will push from
W-E so the sun will return by midday, though the clouds may
linger a bit longer across Cape Cod and the islands. Temps
should recover to near normal levels for late March with highs
in the upper 40s to mid 50s. However, with the northerly winds
in place, temps along the immediate E coast and across the Cape
and islands will only reach the 40s, with the coolest readings
across the mid and outer Cape and well as Nantucket.

Thursday night...

With a continued nearly zonal mid level steering flow in place
across the northern tier of the U.S., the next short wave in
this fast flow will approach Thursday night. However, there
appear to be a couple of issues with the timing and track of the
system. First, noting some model spread on how quickly, or
slowly, the ridge axis pushes offshore. At this point, went
with an overall model blend so should see ridge push across the
Gulf of Maine around or after midnight.

Winds should shift to light southerly ahead of the low moving
out of the Lakes and across western NY/PA. Should see clouds
increase from W-E during the early morning hours. Next will be
when the precip will reach western areas. Looks like that will
happen between 09Z and 12Z Fri. Have mentioned CHC POPs into the
mid and lower CT valley by around 12Z. So, should be a mainly
dry night.

As temps fall back through the 30s overnight, the precip should
be mainly in the form of rain. But, temps may be cold enough to
start off as a period of light snow or a rain/snow mix across
the E slopes of the Berkshires. With marginal temps in place,
should not see much in the way of snow accumulations, at least
for now.

.LONG TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...

Highlights...

Friday...

Still a wide range of solutions for fast moving low pres
tracking south of New Eng. GFS is most amplified with mid level
shortwave and results in widespread rain overspreading the
region. Consensus of non GFS global guidance is much more
suppressed with bulk of rain remaining to the south, but
multiple hi-res guidance sources are further north with rain
moving into the region toward 12z. Blended the available
guidance which yields highest PoPs along the south coast with
decreasing PoPs northward but forecast confidence is low and
further modifications in PoPs are likely as the event draws
closer. Temps will depend on how far north precip gets. A wetter
solution would result in cooler temps.

Friday night into Saturday...

High pres builds into the region with clearing skies Fri night
and sunshine Sat although mid/high clouds will increasing from
the west in the afternoon. Seasonable temps.

Saturday night through Sunday night...

Vertically stacked low pres moves through the Great Lakes with
SW flow advecting higher PWATs into SNE, 2-3SD above normal.
Initial shot of heavier rain will likely lift across northern NY
and northern New Eng Sat night along the axis of the low level
jet, but some rain will overspread the region from the west
later Sat night, especially interior. Secondary low expected to
develop along a frontal boundary to the south by Sun with decent
shot of isentropic lift which should bring steadier rain to
SNE, lingering into Sun evening.

Monday through Wednesday...

Upper low moves across northern New Eng Mon with cold pool and
lingering moisture bringing scattered showers. The upper low
gradually exits on Tue with improving conditions, then high pres
expected to build into the region Wed. Temps near seasonable
through the period.

.AVIATION /21Z WEDNESDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
Forecaster Confidence Levels...

Low - less than 30 percent.
Moderate - 30 to 60 percent.
High - greater than 60 percent.

Through Tonight...Moderate to high confidence.

MVFR CIGS linger across central and northern interior Mass at
20Z, as well as across most of the CT valley, with VFR CIGS
lingering across most of the coastal plain. Patchy light rain
may bring brief VSBYS down to 3-5SM, but should not last long.
E-NE winds remain in place, mainly from around 10 kt across most
areas to around 15 kt across the S Mass coast and the Cape and
islands with some gusts up to around 25 kt or so.

As the precip shifts offshore by around midnight, should see
VFR CIGS mainly across central and western areas. MVFR CIGS will
linger through the night across E Mass into RI terminals. Winds
shift to N at 5-10 kt across most areas during the early
morning hours, but N- NE winds will continue to gust through the
night. Gusts up to 25 to 30 kt along the coast, and might see
gusts up to 35 kt near Nantucket toward daybreak.

Thursday...High confidence.

Areas of MVFR CIGS linger across E Mass/RI early Thursday, but
should improve as the clouds push offshore. May linger a bit
longer across Cape Cod and the islands. Otherwise, VFR
conditions. N winds 10-15 kt will become light/variable during
the afternoon, then shift to S across the CT valley toward
evening. Good visibility.

Thursday night...Moderate to high confidence.

Mainly VFR conditions through the night, but clouds will
increase from W-E. Scattered rain showers may push into western
areas after 06Z with local MVFR VSBYS possible. S-SW winds
around 5 to 10 kt inland, up to around 15 kt along the immediate
coast toward daybreak.

KBOS Terminal...Moderate to high confidence in TAF.

KBDL Terminal...Moderate to high confidence in TAF.

Outlook /Friday through Monday/...

Friday: MVFR/IFR conditions possible. Slight chance SHRA,
slight chance FZRA.

Friday Night through Saturday: VFR.

Saturday Night: Mainly MVFR, with local IFR possible. Breezy.
RA likely.

Sunday: Mainly MVFR, with areas IFR possible. Windy with local
gusts up to 30 kt. RA likely.

.MARINE...

As the coastal low moves offshore well S and E of the waters,
NE winds will continue with gusts up to 25 to 30 kt mainly
across the southern waters to E of Cape Cod. Low risk of brief
gusts up to 35 kt near Nantucket. Winds will diminish somewhat
on Thursday, but will pick up again Thursday night as another
system approaches.

With the continued gusty winds and heightened seas, have
extended the Small Craft Advisory through Thursday night for all
waters except Boston Harbor and Narragansett Bay.

Through Tonight...

E-NE winds from 20 to 25 kt, highest across the southern outer
waters, gusting up to around 30 kt. This is a chance for local
gusts up to 35 kt near and SE of Nantucket. Seas will continue
to build up to 5 to 9 ft, highest on the outer waters E and S of
Cape Cod and Nantucket. Visibility restrictions from 3SM to 5SM
across the southern waters through around midnight then will
improve from W-E as the rain moves offshore.

Thursday and Thursday night...

N-NE winds from 10-15 kt except up to 15-25 kt with gusts up to
around 30 kt across the waters E and S of Cape Cod and
Nantucket through midday Thursday, then will back to N and
diminish. Seas 5 to 8 ft on the open waters. Good visibility.

For Thursday night, high pressure builds across the waters, so
expect light northerly winds to back to S-SW as the high moves
offshore. May see gusts up to around 20 kt on the open waters
after midnight. Visibility remains good, but may see clouds push
in. Chance scattered may approach the southern waters toward
daybreak Friday.
