.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure builds across New England tonight, then shifts to the
Maritimes Wednesday. Low pressure moving off the mid Atlantic coast
will pass well south of New England through Wednesday night, with
best chance of some light rain along the south coast. High pressure
returns Thursday followed by a fast moving low pressure tracking
south of New England Friday. Another storm approaching from the
Great Lakes will bring rain Saturday night into Sunday which may
begin as a period of snow or a wintry mix in the interior. Mainly
dry and near seasonable conditions follow for early next week.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...
1045 AM Update...

Other than clouds lingering across SE Mass and along the S coast
and across the E slopes through late this morning, skies were
mainly partly to mostly sunny at 14Z. Northerly winds were
gusting up to 25 to 30 kt across the Cape and islands as well,
but have diminished further W as high pressure shifts E out of
the central Great Lakes.

Clouds will linger across E Mass into RI through the afternoon
as a weak short wave moves across, mainly at 4000 to 5000 ft.
Should remain dry below this layer, so not expecting precip with
this weak wave.

Temps were mainly in the upper 30s to mid 40s across the region
at 15Z and should top off in the mid 40s to around 50 by mid
afternoon on N-NW winds at 5 to 10 kt.

Previous Discussion...

A negatively titled trough will continue to lift northeastward,
which will push the coastal storm offshore. High pressure will
build into the eastern Great Lakes and New England through the
day.

Gusty winds are expected initially due to the tight pressure
gradient from the departing system and the incoming high. Winds
will gradually diminish as the high builds in and the pressure
gradient relaxes. Will take the longest for gusts to diminish
across coastal locations and over the ocean.

Cloud cover will increase this afternoon across eastern areas
as a short wave slides through. Do not anticipate there to be
any precipitation, but there will be enough lift to generate
some cloudiness. High temperatures will top out into the 40s and
low 50s, despite weak cold air advection.

.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH 6 AM WEDNESDAY/...
Tonight...

Dry and quiet weather tonight as high pressure builds into northern
New England. As the ridge axis slides to the east, will see winds
shift from northerly cold air advection to southerly warm air
advection. Do anticipate some cold air damming, but not to the same
extent as Sunday into Monday as the surface high is not as strong.

A trough will dig into the Ohio River Valley and Appalachians, which
will begin developing another coastal storm. This will bring
increasing cloud cover as the night progresses. Low temperatures
will be in the mid to upper 20s in the higher elevations. Elsewhere
readings will be in the 30s.

.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
Highlights...

*  Rain expected Sat night into Sun, may start as snow or mix
   interior
*  Mainly dry and seasonable early next week

Thursday...

SNE will be in between systems as coastal storm moves offshore and
northern stream shortwave approaches from the Lakes. Weak shortwave
ridging moving into the region with high pres at the surface will
bring sunshine and seasonable temps. Gusty winds along the coast
will diminish in the afternoon.

Friday...

A fast moving shortwave within near zonal flow approaches from the
west with low pres tracking south of Long Island. Some uncertainty
with the northern extent of deeper moisture and rainfall with GFS
and GGEM further N across SNE due to a more amplified shortwave,
while ECMWF/NAM keep rainfall suppressed to the south. Followed a
blend of the guidance which keeps chc pops mainly south of the Mass
Pike with mainly dry conditions to the north. Future adjustments are
likely as we are still 72h out. Temps mostly in the 50s.

Saturday through Sunday...

Next potent mid level low lifting out of the Plains will be moving
through the Gt Lakes Sun along with the parent low which is
vertically stacked. Secondary low pres expected to develop along
frontal boundary to the south with moist SE inflow developing.
Timing of this system has slowed and it appears much of Sat will be
dry with rainfall moving in Sat night through Sun and possibly
lingering into Sun night. Noting cooling aloft as precip moves in
and column may be marginally cold enough late Sat night for precip
to begin as a bit of snow or a mix across interior northern MA, but
any wintry precip will quickly change to rain Sun.

Monday into Tuesday...

Mid level low tracks across northern New Eng Mon then moves to the
east Tue. Can't rule out a few rain showers or higher elevation snow
showers Mon under the cold pool but much of the time is expected to
be dry.

.AVIATION /20Z TUESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
Forecaster Confidence Levels...

Low - less than 30 percent.
Moderate - 30 to 60 percent.
High - greater than 60 percent.

15Z Update...

Today...High confidence.

Leftover MVFR-IFR CIGS lingering across eastern Plymouth county
and along the S coast which should improve to VFR by around 18Z,
otherwise mainly SCT-BKN VFR conditions. N-NW winds gusting to
25-30 kt across the Cape and islands through mid afternoon then
should diminish. BKN clouds from 040-050 will develop during the
afternoon across E Mass into RI and linger with a weak
disturbance moving across.

Tonight...Moderate confidence.

Mainly VFR conditions, but could see areas of MVFR CIGS across
the eastern slopes of the Berkshires as well as coastal
terminals late. Another coastal low approaches bringing MVFR
conditions along with light rain and/or snow across western
MA into north central CT toward daybreak Wednesday.

KBOS Terminal...Moderate to high confidence in TAF.

KBDL Terminal...Moderate to high confidence in TAF.

Outlook /Thursday through Sunday/...

Thursday: Mainly VFR, with local MVFR possible. Windy with
local gusts up to 30 kt.

Thursday Night: VFR. Breezy.

Friday: Mainly VFR, with local MVFR possible. Slight chance
SHRA.

Saturday: Mainly VFR, with local MVFR possible. Slight chance
RA.

.MARINE...
N-NW winds gusting up to 25-30 kt, highest across the eastern
outer waters will diminish during the afternoon from W-E as high
pressure approaches. Have lowered the Gales to Small Craft
Advisories for all waters, but should end as the winds continue
to diminish. Seas up to 6 to 11 feet at midday will subside to
5 to 9 feet by evening. Good visibility.

Expect NW winds to veer to NE as another low approaches the mid
Atlc coast late tonight. Area of light rain approaches the
southern waters by around 12Z.

Next opportunity for potential Gale Force gusts is on Wednesday as
another coastal system passes by to the south. The best chance of
this appears to be across the southern ocean waters at this point in
time, but this will largely depend on how close (or conversely how
far) the storm comes to southern New England.

Outlook /Thursday through Sunday/...

Thursday: Low risk for Small Craft Advisory winds with local
gusts up to 30 kt. Areas of rough seas.

Thursday Night: Winds less than 25 kt. Areas of rough seas.
