.SYNOPSIS...
An overall active weather pattern is expected for the next
several days. Low pressure will push east across the central
Appalachians through midday, then shifts south of New England
through this evening, bringing areas of rain and fog. A cold
front will push south across the region tonight, with rain
becoming a wintry mix or changing to snow before tapering off
early Sunday. Expect dry, blustery conditions late Sunday
morning into Sunday evening. Dry weather should prevail Monday
before another low brings rain and snow later Tuesday into
Wednesday. Dry weather will follow for the end of next week.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...
1 PM update...
Light rain and drizzle moving across SNE. Mid level dry slot
combined with nearly saturated low levels will result in
widespread stratus and fog which may be locally dense in spots.
Areas of drizzle will persist.

Previous discussion...
Robust mid level trough moves into the Ohio valley by late
today. Right entrance region of upper jet sets up across SNE as
weak wave of low pres tracks across the region. Modest synoptic
lift but a mid level dry slot moves in with ice crystal growth
region drying out. This will result in areas of light rain and
drizzle. Low levels near saturation so areas of fog will
continue and may be locally dense in spots. Highs ranging from
upper 30s interior northern MA to mid/upper 40s near the south
coast. Light winds.

.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH 6 PM SUNDAY/...
Tonight...

Expect long wave H5 trough to swing across the eastern seaboard
tonight, pushing the surface low offshore. Colder air will
continue to filter across most of the region as winds shift to
NW this evening. Should see leftover precip, generally less than
0.1 inches QPF, to change over to light snow mainly across the
interior. With the light QPF values, not expect much in the way
of snow accumulations. Could see up to an inch across the higher
inland terrain, but generally about an half inch or less
elsewhere away from the coastal plain before tapering off after
06Z or so.

As low moves offshore and deepens, will see pressure gradient
increase overnight. So, expect the NW winds to become gusty,
upwards to 20-25 kt across most areas after 06Z through
daybreak.

Temps will bottom out in the mid 20s to around 30 inland to the
mid-upper 30s along the shore.

Sunday...

Should see dry conditions with partly to mostly sunny skies
during the day. However, gusty NW winds remain in place through
at least midday with the continued tight pressure gradient from
the exiting low. May see gusts as high as 30-35 kt especially
across the higher terrain and along the coast.

Temps will recover close to seasonal levels, from around 30
across the Worcester hills and E slopes of the Berkshires,
ranging to near 40 along the S coast. With the blustery winds,
it will feel much colder with wind chills in the mid teens and
20s.

04/00Z guidance continued to exhibit some timing and amplitude
differences with respect to a potent mid level shortwave
expected to zip across the country late this weekend and early
this week. These differences are less extreme than this time 24
hours ago. This shortwave is still more than 24 hours away from
reaching western North America, so expecting further changes to
the details regarding the Tue/Wed storm over the next couple of
days. More tranquil weather expected late next week.

Monday...

Southern New England is sort of between systems during this
time. A mid level shortwave passes by mainly to our north. There
is some moisture, but not a tremendous amount. Could see some
light snow or rain showers across the interior, but probably
more like sprinkles or flurries. Plenty of clouds lingering,
keeping high temperatures only slightly above normal.

Tuesday/Wednesday...

Latest guidance remains reasonably consistent with bringing a
low pressure through southern New England sometime late Tue into
Wed. This is not looking like a track which would favor a lot of
snow. That said, it probably will not be a complete shutout for
some. This is still looking like any snow accumulation will be
elevation dependent. Some snow may mix in with the rain across
the coastal plains Tue night into Wed, once temperatures fall
some.

Best chance of accumulating snow remains the hills of
western/central MA and northern CT, especially near the
Berkshires, where it may never change over at all.

Temperatures remain above normal.

Thursday/Friday...

Dry weather follows as high pressure builds into region.

valley after midnight and to MVFR coastal plain toward
daybreak. IFR persists on the Cape/Islands. Increasing NW wind
with gusts 20-25 kt developing toward daybreak.

Lingering MVFR/IFR Cape/Islands early, otherwise VFR with sct-
