.SHORT TERM...
/Updated at 0400 AM CDT Mon Apr 20 2020/

Through Tuesday night.

The main push of the stronger storms have exited to the east and
now we will see the main upper level feature work through. The
biggest part of the upper low with the light rain will be east of
the region. May start out cloudy for a good portion of the region,
but by lunchtime the sun should return and temperatures will begin
to warm up. Look for highs in the 60s and 70s. Even though we will
see some sun in the afternoon across the south, there will still
be quite a high amount of soil moisture in place across the south,
where 4 to 8 inches of rain occurred. With this in mind and very
close dewpoint depressions went ahead and added in fog for the
southern half of the area. Could potentially even see some patchy
river fog in the north as well, but highest confidence is in the
south. Lows will be in the upper 40s to low 50s south.

As we work into Tuesday, sunny skies will prevail as high pressure
builds into place behind a dry front that will work through the
area during the afternoon. Look for highs generally in the 70s
with a few location in the far south near 80. We will begin to see
a few clouds develop in the far sw overnight, but should have
little impact to the region. Look for lows to drop into the low to
mid 40s north to low 50s south.

.LONG TERM...

Wednesday through Sunday.

The next system of note will work through the Mississippi River
Valley on Wednesday with a surface low still back in the Southern
Plains. Even though the models were in better agreement on Sunday
with the timing and possibility for severe weather, the latest
runs actually increase the differences in regards to timing and
strength. The overall pattern will bring the main storms in late
Wednesday night (likely between 2 and 4 am) and then push south
and east through the morning. Most of the activity should be done
by 10 to 11 am in the southeast. Taking a look at some of the
specifics of the threat it appears that we may once again be
shunted from the best dynamics. Most of the instability is
elevated once again across the north and into the southern areas.
Based on the current model runs the activity in the south would
start out elevated and then possibly become surface based. With
that said though this is all based on the global models and the
high res models will come in a little later and hopefully paint a
clearer picture. For now we are going to go marginal for the area,
with all modes of severe weather possible. Also there could
potentially be quite a bit of heavy rainfall across central
sections of the area, so flooding may once again be an issue with
the heavier thunderstorms.

Another little system will move through the north of Friday night
into Saturday with yet another storm system expected on Sunday
into Sunday night. We could potentially be dealing with strong to
severe storms with that system as well, but will remain focused on
this next event and keep an eye on this one as global models try
to get a better handle on it.

.AVIATION...
06Z TAF Discussion.

The general forecast trend continues with the 06z issuance of the
terminal forecast. Did lower the mention of thunder to mostly
showers. Rather chaotic skies over Central Alabama with VFR to IFR
across the area. The general trend will be for all locations to
drop into IFR within the next few hours with generally light rain
showers. The upper trough moves over the region and the clouds
will eventually start improving through the morning hours and by
16-19z, all locations will be VFR. Winds will be somewhat variable
did to the boundaries from convection, but winds will swing to the
southwest and west at 5-10kts. Just before sunrise, winds will
become northwest around 10kts and then north around 10 kts by
afternoon. There may be a few gusts into the 20kts range where the
gradient remains the highest south.

.FIRE WEATHER...

Dry conditions return today and remain through Wednesday. We do have
a high probability of dense fog in the south overnight tonight into
Tuesday morning. The next storm system will work into the region
Wednesday night into Thursday. Additional heavy rains will be
possible with this system. should return for Monday afternoon with
RH values well above critical thresholds with very wet ground
conditions.

There is a threat of severe thunderstorms, including tornadoes,
across all of Central Alabama overnight Wednesday night into
Thursday morning. Right now the most likely timing will be from
3 AM to 11 AM. Heavy rain and localized flash flooding will also be

hours.
