...WIND ADVISORY WILL EXPIRE AT 1 AM AKDT EARLY THIS MORNING...

Winds are starting to decrease between Donnelly Dome and Delta
Junction. Winds at midnight were still gusting to 35 to 45 mph,
but winds will continue to decrease through the night tonight.

.SYNOPSIS...
Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms will continue over
Interior Alaska this afternoon and for tomorrow and Thursday,
becoming less numerous as the week progresses. Gap flow through
the Alaska Range has picked up with southerly winds gusting to
30mph and expected to increase into tomorrow. Stratus and reduced
visibility has returned to the Arctic Coast.

.DISCUSSION...

Aloft...
A wide stretching and stationary ridge over Northern Canada
continues to influence weather across Northern Alaska. A trough
now centered south of Sand Point has shifted flow aloft more
southerly. Aside from the ridge drifting slightly to the south, these
features will remain mostly in place leaving little broad scale
change in the weather in the short term.

Short Term...
Models continue to diverge significantly location and strength of
shortwaves rotating around a weak upper level low over the Central
Interior. Most locations south of the Yukon River remain under
mostly cloudy conditions or partly cloudy conditions, however
there remains enough instability for isolated afternoon and
evening thundershowers mainly west of Fairbanks and from Tanana
north to the south slopes of the Brooks Range and all the way
through the Lower Yukon. Low stratus has moved onto the North
Slope and will thicken this evening and overnight. Areas near the
Alcan Border and north of the Alaska Highway can expect a good
douse of rain tomorrow as a system bringing heavy rain to the
Northern Yukon passes to the east. Temperatures will remain
slightly above normal for most all of Northern Alaska through
Thursday with continued scattered showers and isolated
thunderstorms.

Long Term...
Expect gradual cooling beyond Thursday and into the weekend in the
Interior as a trough in the Gulf of Alaska pushes to the north.
Showers will increase in coverage and decrease in intensity, with
the most instability and best chance for lingering thunderstorms
in the Western Interior and Brooks Range. The West Coast and NW
Arctic looks to remain mostly dry for the near future.

Coastal Hazard Potential Days 3 and 4...None.

.AVIATION...
Low stratus will return to terminals along the Arctic Coast and
PAQT this evening and overnight with visibility reductions into
the IFR range to 1-2SM. VFR conditions over the West Coast with
mostly clear skies and light winds. Another round of thunderstorms
in the Interior this afternoon with most of the convection
expected west of Delta Junction. Passing areas of light smoke at
the Interior terminals.

PAFA and approaches...
Convection in the area the afternoon and evening but mostly
scattered clouds and VFR conditions. Occasional areas of light
smoke, but not enough to reduce visibility below P6SM.

.MARINE...
North winds 5-10 knots across Norton Sound today and tonight with
seas 1-3ft. Seas 1-2ft with lighter and more variable winds
through the end of the week. North winds up to 25 knots tonight
and tomorrow through the Bering Strait with seas rising to around
4ft. Calmer Wednesday night and Thursday before seas rise to 4-7ft
for the end of the week and beginning of the weekend. For the
Northern Bering south of St. Lawrence Island, expect north winds
of 10-15 knots with seas 2-3ft through Thursday with seas rising
to up to 4ft on Friday.

.FIRE WEATHER...
Expect near Red Flag conditions on Wednesday along and near the
Alaska Range passes especially north of Isabell Pass to near
Delta Junction. Southerly gap winds will continue this evening and
strengthen tomorrow. RHs will be the limiting factor and look to
remain mostly in the 30% range. Thunderstorm activity will be on a
gradual decline through Thursday with most of the remaining
activity centered over the Western Interior. Expect wetting rain
tomorrow near the Alcan Border with rainfall totals up to 1.00
inch.

.HYDROLOGY...
Widespread rain forecasted near the Alcan Border on Wednesday
will lead to sharp rises on the Fortymile River, but it is
expected to remain well below action stage. Other Interior rivers
will see gradual rises through Thursday as rain from showers
drains into them. No major concerns at this time though.
