warning for the following rivers in Minnesota... 

  Cottonwood River at New Ulm affecting Brown County


.Heavy rains earlier in the week will cause the Cottonwood to rise
to minor flood stage. Limited chances at additional precipitation 
mean that the rise should be short term. The National Weather 
Service will monitor this developing situation and issue followup
statements as conditions or forecasts change.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Do not drive cars through flooded areas.  Turn Around...Don't Drown.

.SHORT TERM...(Today through Saturday)

Today will be warmer than yesterday, but will still be colder than
normal for this time of year as we remain under an upper trough. At
the surface high pressure is invading from the west, and winds have
fallen off to under 5 MPH for most.

As surface heating increases toward mid day, forecast soundings
indicate adequate mixing up to 800mb. West winds of 5-10 MPH are
expected today, and once the mixing occurs, expect gusts of 15-20
MPH this afternoon. In addition giving the deep upper level trough,
cu rule becomes negative and soundings also support the formation of
a stratocu field which could be strong enough to support a few
isolated showers, especially northeast of the Twin Cities. Diurnally
driven clouds and isolated showers will disappear toward dark, and
winds at the surface will become southerly ahead of an approaching
shortwave. Hence, tonight will not be as cool thanks to the
southerly winds.

A potent shortwave will drop south-southeast out of western Canada
during the day tomorrow, strengthening as it approaches. The timing
of this feature has slowed some, but models still indicate a solid
PV feature moving into western MN by Saturday afternoon. With a
couple hundred J/kg MUCAPE available, expect a couple thunderstorms
will be possible in western MN during the afternoon.

.LONG TERM...(Saturday night through Thursday)

As models were hinting at yesterday, particularly the ECMWF, the
mid-level low progged to drop southeast out of Canada looks to be
more amplified. Therefore the trend to prolong shower chances into
Sunday seems appropriate. Much of the activity will be diurnally
driven with the the shortwave still overhead on Sunday afternoon.

After the aforementioned system departs, western mid-level ridging
works into the central CONUS. This will translate to a dry start
to the week, along with moderating temperatures. By Monday we
should see highs in the 65 to 70 degree range. By Tuesday,
widespread highs in the 70s are possible ahead of the next surface
trough as 925-850 mb temps increase to the +12C to +16C degree
range. Could even see some 80-degree readings depending on where
the boundary sets up. Given this boundary looks to be bisecting
the area during peak heating on Tuesday as a weak wave tops the
mid-level ridge, showers and thunderstorms look to be a decent
possibility. Considering there's low to medium confidence in the
position of the boundary, on top of the fact that the wave is
pretty faint, have left POPS in the chance category for now.

From Wednesday and beyond, confidence becomes lower given
uncertainty with the strength of the ridge and how far south
"ridge riders" will instigate shower activity.

This period will start off clear but a broken cloud layer ar 7-8k
feet will lilkely develop this afternoon over a portion of the
area. Very isolated showers are possible, but confidence was too
low in them impacting a TAF site directly, so left out any
mention. West winds increasing to around 10 knots by this
afternoon could see gusts of 15 to 20 kts mix down to the grounf
this afternoon.
