on Saturday, with conditions hopefully drying out a bit through the weekend.

.SHORT TERM...(This evening through Friday night)

The system that brought us precipitation yesterday and overnight
has now pushed off into the Straights of Mackinac. As this low
continues to pull off to the east, we'll see skies clear out this
evening in MN, with clouds lingering through the night over WI.
The surface high currently over western NoDak will head for Kansas
City, so we'll keep a gradient and some wind through the night,
limiting our full radiational cooling potential. Still, expect
lows down into the 30s areawide, with some frost in more
protected spots. We're nowhere near far enough along in the
growing season for lows in the low to mid 30s to have much of an
impact on vegetation, so no frost headlines are needed.

For Friday, cyclonic flow will be in place across western WI, with
a small threat for an afternoon shower existing there. Otherwise,
we're looking for more sunshine and lighter winds with highs at
least getting back into the low 60s for MN.

Friday night, southwest winds will picking up out ahead of the
wave due in for Saturday. Precip with the front looks really
arrive during the day Saturday, so a dry Friday night is expected.

.LONG TERM...(Saturday through Thursday)

The good news is the long term features a pattern change, as by the
end of next week, long wave troughing will become established over
the western CONUS as the ridge axis shifts to the Great Lakes. This
will allow temperatures next week to return to normal, with the
potential for active (wet) weather as well.

The long term will start with a fairly potent, though compact wave
dropping down out of Canada in the northwest flow. PVA ahead of the
short wave, convergence along the cold front, and a few hundred j/kg
of CAPE will all a line of showers and thunderstorms to develop over
western MN during the afternoon. These showers will continue into
western WI Saturday night. Cool temperatures with the upper wave
aloft will still be over the area on Sunday, which will likely lead
to the development of scattered diurnal showers by the afternoon
beneath where the cold air aloft remains, which ranges from central
MN on the ECMWF to western WI with the GFS.

We'll start next week with high pressure moving through and h5
heights increasing. So we'll be dry for Monday with temperatures
beginning a quick rebound. Those increasing heights will be
associated with a return to zonal flow for mid-week. This flow looks
to send a couple of short waves through here Tuesday night and again
Thursday, but there is very little agreement on timing of any waves
in this period. Stayed with the blended forecast for PoPs mid-week
for now, but those will be changing in the coming days. The one
potential bright spot with all of that is Tuesday though. Depending
on the timing of the first front and its warm sector, we are seeing
some potential for highs into the 80s, if everything goes right...
Still the blended forecast brought highs well into the 70s area wide
for Tuesday, which will be a nice change from our current
situation.
