  30 knots. Winds are then expected to become northwesterly 
  Tuesday afternoon, increasing to gales to 35 knots Tuesday 
  evening, continuing through Wednesday morning. 

* WAVES: 4 to 6 feet in ice free areas today,increasing to 6 to 10
  feet tonight and early Tuesday. 1 to 3 foot waves are then 
  expected in ice free areas Tuesday night and Wednesday.

.UPDATE...

The lingering light snow should be out of southeast Wisconsin
shortly as radar returns are drying up quickly.

The focus shifts to the winter storm hitting Monday evening into
Tuesday evening. The new 00z NAM has come in and shows a
significant jump in QPF and snow amounts. This is an outlier to
the previous runs and also compared to the 00z run of the GFS. The
timing still looks good. The overnight crew will take in all the
models runs over the next few hours and adjust as needed. Overall,
things look on track, but expect some adjustments to the snow
amounts...as usual.

.AVIATION(06Z TAFS)...

The lingering light snow in the east is diminishing quickly as
radar returns dry up. Look for mainly IFR CIGS across the area
through the TAF period. However, some MVFR CIGS will be found at
times into Monday morning. The easterly flow and lingering low
level moisture won't bring improving flight categories until we
get into later Tuesday night or Wednesday.

The forecast for the snow arrival early Monday evening remains on
track. Expect snow to spread very rapidly north across the area
after 00z Tuesday. It should reach KMSN between 00-03z Tuesday
and KMKE/KUES/KENW by 02-05z. CIGS and VSBYS will lower quickly in
snowfall. Winds will remain easterly through 06z Tuesday,
increasing slowly as low pressure approaches.

.PREV DISCUSSION... (Issued 836 PM CST Sun Feb 10 2019)

UPDATE...Lingering light freezing drizzle/snow in southern WI
will decrease over the next few hours as we lose our source of
lift along with our moisture depth. Low level clouds will persist
through the overnight hours that will keep modest temperatures
with lows the low to mid 20s.

MARINE...Light to modest easterly winds will continue tonight
through Monday but increase Monday night and Tuesday as deepening
low pressure tracks from the central Great Plains to far southern
Lake Michigan or northern IN. A few gale force gusts could occur
over the open lake. A Small Craft Advisory may be needed for the
nearshore waters of east central and southeast WI via the brisk
easterly winds and high waves. After the low passes across
Michigan and Lake Huron, west to northwest gales will become
likely for Tuesday night and Wednesday morning for much of Lake
MI. High waves will occur in ice free areas, which is much of Lake
MI.

UPDATE...

The main concern for the evening is the potential for freezing
drizzle. Radar is filling in with light returns as we begin to see
a loss in ice within the DGZ. It has the classic look of drizzle.
I suspect we're getting some gentle lift across the 925-850mb
frontal boundary. That lift disappears this evening, so we don't
expect this stuff to last much past mid evening. But, we'll keep
and eye on it.

AVIATION(00Z TAFS)...

Look for a mix of MVFR and IFR CIGS through the period. The main
concern for this evening is the potential for freezing drizzle
through about 04z for the southeast TAF sites, and about 02z for
KMSN. The bulk of the snow is pulling away, but radar continues to
show lots of light returns over much of southern Wisconsin.
Observations are starting to come in highlighting the freezing
drizzle. Again, this should only be a concern into the evening.
Then we dry out for later tonight into Monday before the next
round of snow arrives. A winter storm watch is in effect starting
Monday evening. Snow pushes in very quickly during the evening
hours.

DISCUSSION...

Tonight and Monday...Forecast Confidence is High.

The burst of moderate snowfall has mostly ended but another quick
moving band will pass across the nrn CWA over the next couple
hours. Mid level drying is occurring behind and south of the band with
still a small potential for freezing drizzle late this afternoon
into the early evening. Very light lake effect snow could then
occur over ern Sheboygan County for much of the night with lake to
850 mb temp differences of 12-13C. Very little snow accum with
this lake effect.

For Monday, an ely flow and stratus will prevail. Lake to 850 mb
temp differences are not sufficient for lake effect snow. The
approaching large upper trough and sfc low from the sw will spread
snow and mixed pcpn across srn WI mostly during Mon eve, but
cannot rule it out near the IL border by late afternoon.

Monday night through Tuesday night - Confidence...Medium
Initial waa/isentropic snow area is proggd to swing through
Monday evening before transitioning to more of a def zone setup
for Tuesday. Surface lows from the various solutions show a
favorable track for our area, however some of the key upper
features from 850 through 700 millibars are not as ideal in
strength and track, especially for the southeast cwa. Cyclogenesis
is delayed until a bit later Tuesday when it occurs across lower
Michigan. There is still good potential for the def zone to take
on better organization especially if the upper support can lead to
quicker cyclogenesis. Based on the 850/700 tracks and the primary
500 low coming overhead, the location of highest amounts (overlap
of waa band and likely positioning of def zone band) slightly
favors the northern portions of the cwa. A bit higher totals
possible near the lake with onshore flow for a time. Overall our
amounts are in the 4-8 range with the highest numbers likely in
the western and northern cwa. Per coord with KLOT will keep the
mention of freezing rain out of the southern portions. Will hoist
a Winter Storm Watch for whole area. Some blowing/drifting potential
on back side Tuesday night.

Wednesday - Confidence...Medium
Tight pressure gradient due to proximity of departing low will
gradually ease throughout the day as surface ridging nudges in.
The influence of this ridge will persist into Wednesday night.

Thursday and Friday - Confidence...Low to Medium
Another storm system to track this period. All the models at this
point are indicating the low would pass to our south with snow
being the likely favored precip type. Still a lot of time to work
out the track and strength but it appears there is consensus for
an impactful system to affect our region with greatest impacts
looking most likely Thursday night into Friday.

Saturday and Sunday - Confidence...Medium
High pressure will likely settle in bringing a period of relative
calm to the area.

AVIATION(21Z TAFS)...Cigs mainly from 1-3 kft will transition to
600-1900 feet this evening and continue through Mon. Varying
vsbys of 3/4SM to 3SM with the light snow this afternoon into the
early evening. Periodic MVFR vsbys could continue well into the
night over ern Sheboygan County due to lake effect snow. Still
small chances for freezing drizzle from MSN to MKE and swd late
this afternoon and early evening.
