Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service North Platte NE 1126 PM CST Fri Mar 1 2019 .SHORT TERM...(This evening through Saturday night) Issued at 305 PM CST Fri Mar 1 2019 The main concern through Saturday night will the chance for snow across all of north central and western Nebraska. Two rounds of winter weather will occur during the first part of the weekend. The first will arrive on Saturday morning impacting much of central and western Nebraska. The second system will arrive late Saturday afternoon and mostly just impact southwest Nebraska. Both systems are expected to be all snow with no mixed precipitation. For snow totals, the first round will total between 1 and 3 inches with the greatest amounts across the western Sandhills and eastern Panhandle. The second round will total between 1 and 4 inches with the greatest amounts south of a line from Oshkosh to North Platte. Overall, both systems will total between 2 to 6 inches with the highest totals across western and southwest Nebraska. Impacts with this system will be mainly confined to snow covered and slippery roadways. Blowing snow is not a concern with this system as winds remain near 10 mph or below. Some reduced visibility is possible with falling snow. The winter weather advisory that was issued during the previous forecast cycle has now been expanded to the east. See the latest winter weather headline product for more information. There is still some concern with the track of the second system. Any slight deviation from the current projected track across southwest Nebraska will result in a dramatic change in the snow totals. Will continue to monitor this over the next forecast cycle and make adjustments as necessary. Behind the snow, very cold temperatures will filter into the region. Saturday night air temperatures will plummet to near 15 below zero across the north and the negative single digits in the south. These cold temperatures combined with recent snowfall will result in wind chills to drop into the 18 to 30 below zero range early Sunday morning. Wind chill headlines have not been issued at this time. If model guidance remains consistent over the next couple forecast cycles, headlines may be needed on Sunday morning. .LONG TERM...(Sunday through Friday) Issued at 305 PM CST Fri Mar 1 2019 The remainder of the weekend and into the middle of next week is anticipated to be quiet with high pressure building into the region. The next chance of precipitation arrives late next week with a chance of snow across much of the area on Thursday. It's still too early to determine details; however will keep an eye on this system over the next several days. Despite the lack of weather, there will be some continued concerns heading into the beginning of next week regarding dangerously cold temperatures. Highs on Sunday will only rise into the positive single digits with Sunday night lows dropping to near 15 below zero across the north and the negative single digits across the south. Wind chill values remain near 15 to 20 below during the day on Sunday. Northwest winds on Sunday night are expected to result in wind chill values to range from 15 below zero south of I-80 to 30 below zero across the north. At this time, no wind chill headlines have been issued, but will be reevaluated over the next day. Temperatures will slowly rise through next week with highs reaching the low to mid 30s by the end of the week. && .AVIATION...(For the 06Z TAFS through 06Z Saturday night) Issued at 1126 PM CST Fri Mar 1 2019 Expect deteriorating flight conditions early this morning as snow spreads east into the Sandhills region of Nebraska.
