ISSUED AT 312 AM CST Fri Jan 18 2019

Overcast skies will continue to impact central Illinois today,
with the next large weather system moving into the Midwest around
00-12z. Model trends continue to inch the low closer to the Ohio
River Valley, and with a secondary wave advancing through the
upper Plains. Start times throughout central Illinois will be
around 03-06z for western CWA and 06-09z for eastern CWA. The
northern half of Illinois will start as snowfall. Further south
along a Taylorville to Paris line south to I-70 could see mixed
precipitation at the onset, as model soundings indicate a near
freezing low- level temperature. South of I-70 will see rainfall
at the start. A winter storm warning will begin tonight for
locations in central Illinois, due to strong winds and heavy
snowfall. Although the total snowfall does not meet warning
criteria, it was discussed and collaborated with nearby offices
that the issuance would be based on impacts to the region.

.LONG TERM...(Saturday through Thursday)
ISSUED AT 312 AM CST Fri Jan 18 2019

A winter storm warning in effect for central and north central
Illinois will last through much of Saturday, with a winter weather
advisory for locations in south central Illinois. As the snowfall
and mixed precipitation continue through the afternoon, colder
temperatures will move into the area from the northwest as the low
shifts through the Ohio Valley. All precipitation will change to
snow in locations that receive rain or mixed to start. Ending
times will be around 18-21z in the west, around 21-00z Sunday for
east central Illinois, and 00-03z for locations in southeast
Illinois. Snowfall amounts will vary with the core now forecast to
impact locations along and north of I-72/I-74, dropping 4-6 more
inches of snow on an already deep snowpack from last weekend.
Areas in southeast Illinois will receive significantly lower
amounts around 2-4 inches, however mixed precipitation could
create a thin layer of ice to a maximum near 0.20 inches. Strong
winds will create hazardous weather conditions for travelers, and
cause snowdrifts. Looking behind the system, frigid Canadian air
will filter into the region, bringing bitterly cold temperatures
to the Midwest. Wind chill values Sunday and Monday mornings will
be in the negative single digits, remaining just warmer than
advisory levels. Another system is in most models to arrive
Tuesday, and will be monitored for further development.

Light fog has set in at I-72 TAF sites, and will continue to
reduce visibilities at those sites through the morning. Otherwise
ceilings will start out MVFR, and carry MVFR through 00z ahead of
another low pressure system. Ceilings will drop to IFR during the
evening, as low clouds advance into the region. SN is expected to
begin around 03z at PIA, with all other sites forecast to start
snowfall around 06-07z. Winds will increase from the northeast as
the low approaches the Ohio River Valley. Along with sustained
winds around 15kts, gusts will reach near 25kts, creating BLSN
during the last 3 hours of the period at all sites.

MIDNIGHT CST SATURDAY NIGHT...

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of central
Illinois and east central Illinois.

.DAY ONE...TODAY AND TONIGHT...

Snowfall will develop after midnight tonight. Strong N-NE winds
will cause reduced visibility and blowing and drifting snow.
Snowfall amounts tonight may reach up to 2 inches.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...SATURDAY THROUGH THURSDAY...

The winter storm will continue through Saturday afternoon, with
accumulating snow and gusty winds. Storm total snowfall of 4 to 6
inches is expected, with significant drifts possible. Cold air
and low wind chills will follow this system for Sunday and Monday.

Another weather system will bring the potential for accumulating
snow on Tuesday and Tuesday night.

reduced visibility and blowing and drifting snow. Snowfall amounts
tonight may reach up to 2 to 3 inches.

MIDNIGHT CST SATURDAY NIGHT...

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of central
Illinois, east central Illinois and southeast Illinois.

.DAY ONE...TODAY AND TONIGHT...

A mix of freezing rain and snow is expected later tonight. Strong
N-NE winds will cause reduced visibility during any snow showers,
with blowing and drifting snow possible late. Snowfall amounts
tonight may reach up around 1 to 2 inches.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...SATURDAY THROUGH THURSDAY...

Mixed precipitation will continue to be possible on Saturday, with
all rain possibly expanding north of I-70. Precipitation should
transition to all snow Saturday afternoon, as colder air arrives
on strong North winds. Total snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches
will be possible. Very cold air and low wind chills will follow
this system for Sunday and Monday.

Another weather system will bring the potential for accumulating
snow on Tuesday into Wednesday.

Strong north to northeast winds are expected along with rain
showers after midnight tonight.

Strong winds and rain showers are expected on Saturday. Wintry
precipitation should remain closer to I-70 and northward. Very
cold air and low wind chills will follow this system for Sunday
and Monday.
