...COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 11 PM THIS EVENING TO
2 AM EDT SUNDAY...

The National Weather Service in Wilmington has issued a Coastal
Flood Advisory, which is in effect from 11 PM this evening to
2 AM EDT Sunday.

* LOCATIONS...Inland New Hanover.

* TIMING...From 11 PM this evening to 2 AM EDT Sunday.

* COASTAL FLOOD IMPACTS...Water 4 to 8 inches deep on the lowest
  parts of Battleship Road and USS North Carolina Road. Water
  begins to spread on to River Road about a quarter mile south of
  The Cape Boulevard. In downtown Wilmington...water covers more
  than a block of Water Street near Market St.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Coastal Flood Advisory indicates that onshore winds and tides
will combine to generate flooding of low areas along the shore.

* SURF ZONE IMPACTS...Very strong rip currents will be dangerous 
  to anyone who enters the surf.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

There is a high risk of rip currents. Life threatening rip
currents are likely in the surf zone.

Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away
from shore, which occur most often at low spots or breaks in the
sandbar and in the vicinity of structures such as groins, jetties
and piers. Heed the advice of lifeguards, beach patrol flags and
signs.

If you become caught in a rip current, yell for help. Remain
calm, do not exhaust yourself and stay afloat while waiting for
help. If you have to swim out of a rip current, swim parallel to
shore and back toward the beach when possible. Do not attempt to
swim directly against a rip current as you will tire quickly.

A Beach Hazards Statement is issued when threats such as rip
currents, longshore currents, and other hazards create life-
threatening conditions in the surf zone. Caution should be used
when in or near the water.

.SYNOPSIS...
Low pressure aloft will will meander across the Mid-Atlantic
States today before finally exiting the coast and pushing
offshore late this weekend. High pressure will follow and
ridge across the area from the Gulf Coast States late this
weekend thru early next week. Will see a gradual warming Sunday
thru the early to mid-week period of next week.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH SUNDAY/...
As of 330 AM Saturday...Currently, the local Fa is within the
dry slot which attm is swinging around the upper low. The deep
convection earlier Fri evening has pushed east of the FA and
will be followed with some drying today. The FA will be under
cyclonic flow thru the weekend now as the closed upper low
meanders across the Mid Atlantic states today thru much of
Sunday before finally pushing off the VA Cape late Sun. During
this time frame, the upper low will slowly be filling in, losing
it's potential to produce graupel as the cold core warms. Some
moisture rotating around the upper low makes it across the FA
later today thru Sun via latest model RH Time height displays
for locations across the FA. The best dynamics for pcpn
associated with this meandering upper low, will remain north of
the FA. As a result, will just include cloudiness overspreading
the FA later today and persisting into Sun with no pcpn
indicated at this time.

Max temps today and Sunday will run a good 5 to 10 degrees below
normal. Given the mid April sun angle, if the deck of clouds
has more breaks in it then progged, max temps will easily make
it into the 70s. At the moment, we are advertising mid to upper
60s for maxes. Lows tonight will also run 5 to 10 degrees below
normal with low to mid 40s covering it. No fog expected tonight
as the atm in the lower levels is progged to remain well mixed.

.SHORT TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT/...
As of 300 AM Saturday...Thermal advection turns neutral
Sunday night but after the cool preceding day low temperatures
will end up a few degrees below climatology. This holds true
heading into Monday but solar modification of the airmass will
bring an afternoon that is a few degrees above climo. There
will be some weak warm advection Monday night but with the high
center so close it will not mix to the surface. So once again
Monday night temps right near normal.

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
As of 300 AM Saturday....Surface high pressure that moves east
across the area Tuesday into Wednesday will be weak and poorly
defined keeping winds very low and warm advection somewhat
minimized. The warming trend ongoing will be more tied to
solar modification of the airmass. Thursday no longer appear to
offer the chance for backdoor cold front related showers as the
boundary now stays much further to our north. Moisture will be
increasing however as a southern branch feature approaches from
the west. This feature will introduce rain chances on Friday.

.AVIATION /08Z SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
As of 06Z...VFR conditions expected thruout the forecast
period. The dryslot will keep cloudiness limited today however,
low to mid level moisture rotating around the upper low will
push across the FA later today thru Sun. The upper low remains
far enough north of the area terminals keeping the threat for
showers and even graupel given freezing levels will have
dropped, especially if one is located directly underneath the
upper low. With the passage of the cold front early this
morning, winds will veer from the SSE to WSW-SW and remain
active thruout the fcst period. Sustained during the day in the
10 to 20 kt range with gusts to 25 kt and dropping to 5 to 10 kt
for the evening period.

Extended Outlook...VFR conditions thruout the extended as the
center of high pressure parks across the Eastern Carolinas.
Potential for MVFR from morning fog Tue and Wed mornings.

.MARINE...
Today thru Sunday:
Cyclonic flow sfc and aloft will dominate the local waters
thruout this period. Once the CFP occurs early this morning,
winds will veer from SSE to WSW-SW at sustained 15 to 25 kt with
gusts up to 30 kt and possibly 35 kt although that should be
infrequent and thus will maintain a strong SCA across all waters
today followed by a slow demise of the winds tonight and Sun due
to the sfc pg relaxing and residual CAA having become neutral.
Wind speeds will drop below SCA thresholds tonight and
continuing the diminishing trend on Sun. Significant seas will
be slow to subside given the swell generated just offshore
bleeding into the local waters. SW to WSW wind driven waves will
mesh on top of this swell. SCA threshold seas will persist thru
tonight and possibly a good portion of Sun.

Sunday night through Monday night:
Advisory flags should be able to be dropped Sunday night as high
pressure building in brings light NW winds and decreasing seas.
With the high both poorly defined and moving overhead Monday and
Monday night winds will be capped at 10kt and exhibit some
inconsistency in direction.

Tuesday through Wednesday:
High pressure will be found off the coast through the period.
This will promote a generally southwesterly flow. The high will
remain weak and keep winds around just 10kt. Seas will average
2-3 feet.

Minor coastal flooding will be possible along the Lower Cape Fear
River from Wilmington south. Flooding will occur within a 2 to
3 hour window centered around Sat evening's high tide which occurs
at 1140 PM EDT.
