A Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect for the majority of the Nebraska outlook area. Please refer to the Advisory message for further information. A Flood Watch is in effect for the entire outlook area, as widespread rain showers and isolated to scattered thunderstorms will occur. Thunderstorms should not be severe, but brief heavy rain and small hail are possible. Flood Advisories are in effect for portions of Greeley County, and also for the Platte River in east-central Hall County. Please refer to the Advisory statements for further details. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Wednesday through Monday. Wednesday through Thursday, a powerful storm system will continue to promote multiple weather concerns. First, a Dense Fog Advisory continues through 10 AM Wednesday for most of the Nebraska outlook area. Please refer to the Advisory message for further information. The entire outlook area remains in a Flood Watch through Thursday morning, as the combination of generally 1 to 2 inches of precipitation, melting snow, and possible ice jam activity on the Platte and Loup River systems, could promote a number of flooding issues, in addition to those currently covered by the Flood Advisories for Greeley and east-central Hall Counties. Please refer to the Flood Watch and Advisory statements for more information. On Wednesday, thunderstorms remain possible through early evening. While most storms should not be severe, there is a Marginal Risk that a few strong to severe storms could develop mainly between 3 and 8 PM. Should this happen, the main threats would include hail to around quarter size and wind gusts to around 60 MPH. A brief tornado cannot be completely ruled out, but this is considered a very small possibility. In addition Wednesday, south-southeast winds will increase in strength, with mainly north central Kansas areas seeing sustained speeds around 30 MPH and gusts of 40 to 50 MPH. Wednesday night into Thursday, rain will change to snow from west to east. Total snow accumulations of generally 1 to 3 inches are currently expected. However, it is very important to note that there is still some uncertainty in these amounts, as there could be a fairly narrow zone of localized higher totals, especially in some Nebraska counties. Additional adjustments to the snowfall forecast are likely! No matter how much snow falls Wednesday night into Thursday, significant visibility reductions are likely anywhere it snows, as the entire outlook area will observe intense northwest winds, with sustained speeds 35 to 45 MPH and gusts to around 65 MPH. Even in areas of minimal snow, these winds could result in blizzard conditions, and also cause spotty damage and power outages. At this time, most of the outlook area is under a Winter Storm Watch to cover the combination of snow and strong winds, while Rooks, Osborne and Mitchell counties in Kansas are in a High Wind Warning, as very little snow is anticipated that far south.
