VFR conditions expected to prevail through the period at all terminals, with ongoing lower ceilings remaining west of the forecast area this morning. Most of the TSRA should remain west of the terminals through 12Z tomorrow, but BVO/TUL/RVS have a high enough chance of seeing some before that to warrant a PROB30 group after 06Z. Southerly winds will increase mid to late morning and become gusty at all terminals except FSM through late afternoon. && .PREV DISCUSSION... /Issued 420 AM CDT Mon Oct 8 2018/ DISCUSSION... The main forecast concerns this morning will be the convective potential/severity and locally heavy rain potential Tuesday/Tuesday night with a strong upper storm system. A secondary challenge will be rain chances/amounts by next weekend. A quasi-stationary front remains draped across north and far northeast Oklahoma. Recent hourly trends suggest that the boundary is slowly retreating north, however this process has been slowed by consistent outflow producing convection. Will maintain some low end PoPs this morning across NE OK. The front should be out of the region by afternoon, with some isolated to scattered showers and storms possible in the low level theta-e axis over eastern OK. Focus then shifts to the western CONUS upper trough. This feature is moving slowly east attm, but will begin to open up and eject more quickly across the Plains Tuesday into Wednesday as an upstream kicker system drops down into the Pac NW. As this occurs, surface low pressure will develop over central KS and will lift northeast quickly, dragging a Pacific cold front across the forecast area Tuesday afternoon and evening. Models develop a decent instability axis ahead of the front from central into eastern OK. The instability combined with the strong DPVA will produce a band or line of storms that is expected to sweep east across the region. Strong low and deep layer shear suggests that damaging winds and some isolated QLCS tornadoes will be possible. This activity will sweep quickly east of the region by Wednesday morning with the front. Locally heavy rainfall will be possible, however the progressive nature of the forcing suggests that the flood threat will not be overly high at any one location. This front will mark the beginning of what will be an extended stretch of true fall weather (it's about time!!). Rain chances will increase toward the end of the week and weekend, though some important details remain uncertain due to poor run to run consistency. What is more certain is that a system will drop southeast over the Plains in the northern stream NW flow but this system will probably not bring much rain to the region. What is of more interest will be the track of the remnants of Hurricane Sergio. A broad upper trough will remain in place in the southern stream over the southwest CONUS, and this will act to draw the tropical system northeast into the country. What is uncertain is the track of the remnant moisture. The ECMWF now brings this moisture over OK/AR, with the GFS showing a bit farther north track across KS. However, these models have been shifting this significantly north or south over the past couple of nights, the it is still quite uncertain whether this feature will affect our region or not.
