This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for central North Carolina.

A few strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible this afternoon
through this evening. The main severe weather hazards will be
locally damaging wind gusts, and torrential downpours which may lead
to flash flooding.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Sunday through Friday.

Rounds of showers and thunderstorms will affect Central North
Carolina Sunday through Tuesday, accompanied by heavy downpours. The
repetition of showers and storms with heavy rain may trigger
episodes of localized flash flooding.

An isolated severe thunderstorm or two may occur Sunday afternoon
through Sunday evening. The main severe weather hazard will be
locally damaging wind gusts.

Rounds of showers and thunderstorms will affect central North
Carolina Sunday through Tuesday, accompanied by heavy downpours. The
repetition of showers and storms with heavy rain may trigger episodes
of localized flash flooding.

NORTHWESTERN VANCE AND NORTHERN GRANVILLE COUNTIES UNTIL 245 PM

At 140 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking an area of showers and
strong thunderstorms 7 miles southeast of Hitesburg, or 7 miles east
of Virgilina, moving east at 35 mph.

Pea size hail and wind gusts up to 40 mph will be possible with this
storm.

Heavy rain and minor flooding and deadly cloud to ground lightning
will also be possible with this storm.

Locations impacted include...
Roxboro, Concord, Stovall, Bethel Hill, Bushy Fork, Hyco Lake,
Tungsten, Mayo Reservoir, Hyco Marina and John H Kerr Reservoir.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Seek shelter in a nearby building or vehicle. Wind gusts as high as
40 mph are capable of knocking down tree limbs and blowing around
trash cans, potted plants, lawn furniture and other light outdoor
objects.

This storm may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio
stations and available television stations for additional information
and possible warnings from the National Weather Service.

If on or near Hyco Lake, get out of the water and move indoors or
inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning can strike out to 10 miles
from the parent thunderstorm. If you can hear thunder, you are close
enough to be struck by lightning. Move to safe shelter now! Do not
be caught on the water in a thunderstorm.

COUNTY UNTIL 315 PM EDT...

At 213 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking an area of showers and
strong thunderstorms 7 miles north of Pope AFB, or 9 miles north of
Fort Bragg, moving northeast at 10 mph.

Dime size hail and wind gusts up to 50 mph will be possible with this
storm.

Locations impacted include...
Lillington, Angier, Coats, Olivia, Pineview, Anderson Creek,
Timberlake, Seminole and Raven Rock State Park.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Seek shelter in a nearby building or vehicle. Wind gusts as high as
50 mph are capable of knocking down small or weakened trees and
blowing around trash cans, potted plants, lawn furniture and other
light outdoor objects.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm.
Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe
shelter inside a building or vehicle.

Dont wait until you see the first lightning flash before heading to
safety. Move indoors at the first sign of threatening skies or the
first sound of thunder. Deadly lightning strikes can occur well ahead
of an approaching storm, prior to the arrival of rain and wind. Make
sure that lightning is well away from your location before resuming
outdoor activity.
