.SYNOPSIS...
Strong low pressure across the Canadian Maritime provinces will
continue to move away tonight and Saturday. Meanwhile, arctic high
pressure will build towards the area this weekend. The high will
move offshore Sunday night as low pressure moves across southern
Canada. A cold front will cross the area Monday night. More high
pressure builds in for the middle of next week.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM SATURDAY MORNING/...
1040 MB Arctic high pressure currently over central Canada digs into
the Northern Plains tonight and will be centered over the western
Great Lakes/Upper Midwest by daybreak Saturday.
Strongest NW winds will continue to diminish to 10-20 MPH with
gusts up to 25 mph (30 mph over the Poconos) tonight.
Brutally cold airmass continues to build into the region, with 850
mb temps ranging from -20C to -25C. This results in surface temps
generally in the dingle digits, except from -5F to -10F in the
Poconos. The big concern is for the Pine Barrens. Given recent
snowfall and potential for locally diminishing winds, there could be
strong radiational cooling that could result in temperatures colder
than forecast. As it is, went lower than guidance based on snowfall
for lows of 0 to 5F there.
Wind Chill Warning remains in effect for the Poconos, as wind chills
will range from -25F to as low as -30F.
For most of northern NJ and into the Lehigh Valley, wind chills will
be as low as -15F to -20F. For the rest of the forecast area, expect
wind chills from -10F to -15F. Wind Chill Advisories remain in
effect for these areas.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM SATURDAY MORNING THROUGH 6 PM SATURDAY/...
Arctic high builds east through the Great Lakes and into the Ohio
Valley on Saturday. Abundant sunshine on tap, but with 850 MB temps
from -20C to -25C, expecting highs a few degrees colder than today,
generally ranging from 0 to 5F in the Poconos, and from 10-15 for
most of SE PA and NJ, and around 15F for the Delmarva.
NW winds increase in the afternoon, but will not be quite as strong
as today, generally 15-20 MPH with 25-30 MPH gusts.
Will extend the Wind Chill Warning for the Poconos through Saturday
as wind chills will be dangerously cold during the day, as low as -
25F. For the rest of the region, the wind chill will range from -10F
to -15F, and with a Wind Chill Advisory being needed Saturday night,
will just extend it through the day Saturday.

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY/...
The core of the arctic air will be across the region Saturday night
and Sunday morning. The snow cover, clear skies and rather light
winds will cause maximum radiational cooling with sub-zero
temperatures across much of the area. Delmarva and a few areas right
near the shore and perhaps the urban center of Philadelphia may
escape sub-zero numbers, but it's close enough. Winds will have
decreased quite a bit by then, but any small amt of winds will be
enough for wind chill readings becoming dangerous. We will extend
the winds chill flag for the northern areas into Sunday morning.
Later Sunday and into Monday, the high will be moving to the east and
a warming flow behind it will be across the area. Highs Sunday will
still be well below normal, but by Monday readings will be back into
the low/mid 30s across many areas. A low pressure system will be
moving north of the area Monday and Monday night. An attached cold
front will cross our area. Precipitation will accompany the feature,
but overall the look of the system is disorganized and weak. Still,
it's possible that a light accumulating snow or some sleet/freezing
rain may occur with the system. Well south, rain will be the most
likely p-type. We will monitor this the next few model runs in case
future WSW flags may be needed.
Tuesday, the cold front will be east of the are and an area of high
pressure will build towards the region. A couple lingering snow
showers are possible E/NE areas Tue morning, but overall we are
expected a dry fcst for now for Tuesday and Wednesday. Temperatures
will be near normal Tuesday and then a little below normal
Wednesday.
Many of the 12Z models are showing a stronger warming trend towards
the end of next week with a surge of above normal temperatures
arriving across the area Thu and Fri. Highs could head towards the
low 50s by then. A low pressure system may bring a better chc for
rains as we head towards the end of next week.

.AVIATION /02Z SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG, KILG,
KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.
Tonight....VFR/SKC. NW winds 20-30 KT with 35 KT gusts will diminish
to around 15 KT with 20-25 KT tonight, and may even drop to around
10 KT for a few hours prior to daybreak Saturday. Some blowing snow
early this evening may result in reduced VSBYs. Moderate confidence.
Saturday...VFR with FEW-SCT 040-050 developing in the afternoon. NW
winds increase Saturday morning to 15-20 KT with gusts up to 30 KT.

Gales will continue on all waters through tonight, then gales end on
upper DE Bay by daybreak Saturday. A Small Craft Advisory will be
needed for upper DE Bay when the Gale Warning ends. For the ocean
and Lower DE Bay, gales persist through at least Saturday. Seas 6-10
feet on the ocean this evening will subside to 4 to 6 feet on
Saturday. On DE Bay, waves 4-6 feet will subside to 3-5 feet on
Saturday.
Ice has begun to develop across DE Bay, and with temperatures
remaining well below freezing through this weekend, that ice is
likely to build. Wave forecast on DE Bay is for ice free areas.
Moderate to heavy freezing spray continues, so will leave Freezing
Spray Warning in place.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
Very strong west to northwest winds will continue to blow the water
away from the shorelines of the Delaware Bay and the NJ and DE
oceanfront. This looks to be the strongest with the low tide through
this evening, so the Low Water Advisory remains in effect as levels
will fall below -2.0 ft MLLW. However, the low tidal cycle
overnight also has a good possibility of reaching blowout
threshold so the low water advisory was extended for the low
tide near sunrise. Data from Stevens and a blend of the
ETSS/ESTOFS models also shows the potential into the Saturday
afternoon/evening low tide as well.
