.SYNOPSIS...Below normal temperatures will continue through the
weekend and into early next week as a pair of upper level systems
affect the Bay Area. Other than a very slight chance of rain/drizzle
for the North Bay beginning overnight tonight and tomorrow, no
precipitation is forecast for the remainder of the district through
the forecast period. A modest warming trend is anticipated by
midweek next week as high pressure builds in from the west.

.DISCUSSION...as of 9:12 PM PDT Friday...Latest infrared and
water vapor satellite imagery shows low clouds associated with an
upper-level low, currently centered just off the southern Oregon
coast, advancing eastward towards the North Bay/San Francisco Bay
Area. There could be light rain and/or drizzle associated with
this low, mainly for the North Bay Counties, overnight tonight and
through the day on Saturday. The trough associated with this low
did a great job of mixing out the marine layer this afternoon,
which is not expected to develop again for at least the next
couple of nights. Temperatures are running a few degrees warmer
than 24 hours ago, but are anticipated to cool down overnight to
temperatures similar to last night, generally in the mid-to-upper
40s and lower 50s.
The aforementioned low will move inland into Oregon tomorrow
afternoon, continuing the slight chance of light rain rain/drizzle
continuing through the day tomorrow for the North Bay, mainly for
Sonoma and Napa Counties, with the rest of the district remaining
dry. Daytime temperatures will likely remain 5 to 10 degrees below
normal through the weekend, ranging from the lower-mid 60s near the
coast to lower 70s inland.
A quick moving shortwave trough will sweep along the California
coast on Monday, eventually becoming a cut-off low over Southern
California by Tuesday morning. At this time, no precipitation is

.AVIATION...As of 10:40 PM PDT Thursday. For 06Z TAFs. Upper low
approaching the southern coast of Oregon has disrupted the marine
layer, which makes for a difficult forecast concerning low
cloud cover. Most likely scenario is that low clouds will become
more widespread overnight as the low levels become cooler and more
stable, and as moist onshore flow persists. MVFR ceilings likely
to develop at most terminals between 06Z and 12Z. Transition back
to VFR conditions by around 18Z Saturday. Light to moderate
westerly winds. Shower activity triggered by upper low late Friday
night and Saturday expected to remain north of terminals.
Vicinity of KSFO...MVFR ceilings forecast to develop around 09Z
and continue through 17Z Saturday. Confidence low to moderate.
Westerly winds around 8 kts increasing to around 15 kts mid
afternoon Saturday.
SFO Bridge Approach...Similar to KSFO.
Monterey Bay Terminals...MVFR ceilings forecast through about 19Z
Saturday, possibly IFR ceilings at times between 12-17Z. VFR
conditions forecast for Saturday afternoon. Light west to
southwest winds.

.MARINE...as of 8:30 PM PDT Friday...Generally light winds are
expected over the coastal waters through Saturday, except local
northwest winds in excess of 20 kt will likely develop south of
Point Sur by late Saturday afternoon. Northwest winds will then
increase across all coastal waters from late Sunday into Monday.
Light to moderate seas will continue through the forecast period
with a mixed south and northwest swell into the weekend.
