...A Flood Warning continues for portions of the following rivers and
streams in Indiana...

  Big Blue River...Big Raccoon Creek...Big Walnut Creek...Buck 
  Creek...Deer Creek...Driftwood River...Eagle Creek...East Fork 
  White River...Eel River...Fall Creek...Flatrock River...Mill 
  Creek...Mississinewa River...Muscatatuck River...South Fork Wildcat
  Creek...Sugar Creek...Wabash River...White Lick Creek...White 
  River...Wildcat Creek...Youngs Creek...

.Significant river flooding is possible in across portions of 
central and southern Indiana next week.  Widespread significant 
flooding is likely through through at least September 15 in western 
and southern Indiana. Rivers will continue to rise over the next 
several days with flooding beginning on smaller creeks and rivers 
this weekend.

Widespread areas of two to four inches of rain fell across central 
Indiana Friday into Saturday morning with a few locally higher 
amounts reported. With additional rainfall of two to potentially 
five inches expected in some areas from now through Sunday 
evening...some rivers have had their forecasts upgraded from Minor to 
Moderate severity. Current forecasts are based on expected rain and 
will change based on where the heaviest rain falls.  People with 
interests along rivers and creeks should keep a close eye to 
forecasts over the next several days.


Precautionary/Preparedness Actions...

Motorists should never drive into flood water. Turn around and go 
another way. Keep children away from flooded areas. Recreational and 
agricultural interests should remain alert to changing river 
conditions.

* At 16.3 feet...Extensive flooding in progress.  At this level in 
  December 2013...US Highway 31 was closed by high water just north 
  of SR 252 at Edinburgh.  The Big Blue River was flooding the road.
  Big Blue River had crested at Shelbyville slightly over 18 feet and
  Sugar Creek near Edinburgh had reached 16.8 feet.

  rise to near 15.4 feet by Monday evening.  The river will fall 
  below flood stage by late Tuesday night.
* At 15.0 feet...The river floods two of State Road 46's 4 lanes just 
  west of Columbus.  Southern Crossing flooded at this level 
  according to Columbus Response Plan.  Southern Crossing did 
  flooding in June 2008.  At least 10 homes in the Walesboro area 
  began to flood or had water near their homes in December 2013.  The
  river reading at Seymour was around 18.8 feet.  Southern Crossing 
  was closed by high water.

  Road 450, Stumphole Bridge Road, Mill Creek Road, Earl Road, Dillon
  Road, River Road and Rager Road.

  flood plain areas on local streams.  State Road 450 just east of 
  Williams is extensively flooded and becomes a recreational area for
  local geese and ducks.  Only the highest campgrounds at Williams 
  Dam are out of water.  Huron and Williams Road flooded immediately 
  south of Indiana 450 just west of Williams.  Dillman Road (CR 1000 
  W)  immediately north of Indiana 450 begins to flood. Indiana 450 
  begins to flood at Coxton Road.

* At 11.5 feet...Extensive flooding occurred along Sugar Creek during 
  December 2013.  No homes flooded in the New Palestine area, but the
  local road to the Waste Water Treatment Plant and a few other roads
  were closed by high water.  The water was 8 inches below the bridge
  deck on US highway 52 on the east side of New Palestine.   Flooding
  of at least one home downstream in Johnson County.  This was the 
  highest level for this site since establishment in October 1967.

  Ave and one on Templin Rd. Roads flooded by 3 or more feet of water
  are Turkey Foot Rd, Temple Ave, Ford Rd at 96th St, Willow Rd at 
  Templin Rd, Noel Rd at 79th St and Holliday Rd.

the next several days with flooding beginning on smaller creeks and 
rivers Saturday night and Sunday and spreading to the main stem 
rivers early next week.

Widespread areas of four to six inches of rain fell across central 
Indiana Friday through Saturday with a few locally higher amounts 
reported. Additional rainfall of around an inch is possible tonight 
mainly across the East Fork White basin. Forecasts will continue to 
change over the next 24 hours as precipitation reports continue to 
come in. People with interests along rivers and creeks should keep a 
close eye to forecasts over the next several days.


Precautionary/Preparedness Actions...

Motorists should never drive into flood water. Turn around and go 
another way. Keep children away from flooded areas. Recreational and 
agricultural interests should remain alert to changing river 
conditions.

.Unusual September flooding has developed in central and southern 
Indiana early Sunday afternoon and will continue through much of the 
week.

Flooding along the White River in central and southern Indiana will 
be somewhat to considerably lower than the significant to major 
flooding seen in September 2003.  However flooding along the East 
Fork White River in central and southern Indiana will be somewhat 
higher than flood crests in September 2003.  Significant flooding 
developed along portions of the Flatrock River in Rush County.

Little flooding is expected along the Wabash River in western and 
southwestern Indiana.   

Rainfall of 2 to nearly 10 inches occurred in central and southern 
Indiana since Thursday evening.  The previously very dry areas of 
southwest Indiana received the heaviest rainfall.  Much of central, 
east central and the remainder of southern Indiana reported 4 to 8 
inches of rain.  Rainfall on the order of 2 to 3 inches occurred in  
in west central and north central Indiana.

The steady rain has ended in central Indiana.  Little rainfall is
expected the remainder of the week.  Flooding will continue in some 
areas for more than 3 days.

Precautionary/Preparedness Actions...

Motorists should never drive into flood water. Turn around and go 
another way. Keep children away from flooded areas. Recreational and 
agricultural interests should remain alert to changing river 
conditions.

Flooding rains are expected to impact central Indiana for the next
couple of days, with dangerous flash flooding possible. After that
dry weather and cooler temperatures are expected, but longer range
solutions show warmth headed back to the area in the extended.

.NEAR TERM /Rest of Today/...
Issued at 1029 AM EDT Sat Sep 8 2018

Rain continues across central Indiana this morning with the
remnants of Gordon beginning to expand into the region and
interact with the remnant boundary. Most of the heavier rain has
been south of I-70 so far this morning but most everyone is
getting wet. 14Z temperatures were in the 60s.

Really not much to change in the current forecast. With the
arrival of the Gordon remnants into the afternoon...expect
rainfall rates to really ramp up over the next few hours over much
of the area. Primary focus for heaviest rainfall will be near and
south of I-70 but as mentioned above...all of central Indiana will
be impacted through tonight. Multiple factors continue to support
potential for widespread and excessive rainfall amounts...
including a rich tropical moisture fetch with precip water values
in excess of 2 inches...exceptionally high freezing levels that
support warm rain processes and very efficient rainfall and
strong low level forcing. 100 pops will continue through tonight.

To this point...heavier rainfall amounts have been isolated
enough over south central indiana to carry Flood Advisories. That
being said...greater concern that the more widespread and heavier
rainfall rates will support the need for warnings in some areas as
the day goes on. Will continue to monitor.

Only adjustments were to nudge high temps down a couple degrees
and bump winds up later today. Expect little to no movement to
temps from current readings.

.SHORT TERM /Sunday through Monday night/...
Issued at 352 AM EDT Sat Sep 8 2018

Forecast focus is on timing out the end of the heavy rainfall
potential. Models are in fairly good agreement that heavy rain will
continue over much of the area into Sunday morning. Some models
indicate this potential lasts through Sunday, while other runs
indicate some potential for the system to eject a bit faster with
only some light to moderate rain for Sunday afternoon and even that
could be restricted to mainly the eastern half of the area. Think
most of the area will see rain Sunday morning, with all but the far
western counties having rain continue into Sunday afternoon,
although by that point it should be diminishing. Carried small pops
in the eastern counties then through Monday with some uncertainty
regarding the timing of a kicker wave to boot the system out of the
area. Temperatures should be fairly cool through the short term with
all of the rain chances and overall cloudy skies.

.LONG TERM /Tuesday through Saturday/...

Models agree that high pressure will keep it a mostly or all dry
long term as Florence takes aim at the southeast coast.

Below normal temperatures with mostly highs in the middle and upper
70s are expected through Wednesday before temperatures return to
normal with highs in the lower and middle 80s for late week and next
weekend.

Little change to terminals as significant impacts continue all day
with sub-IFR conditions. 12Z discussion follows.

Good confidence Gordon will bring poor flying conditions to the
terminals along with occasional heavy rain through the period.
Confidence is not great on timing, but flying conditions will
fluctuate from MVFR to IFR. Would also not rule out thunder, but
chances too low to include in any terminal.

Northeast winds 10 to 15 knots will gust to 21 to 25 knots after 16z.

afternoon Sunday.

Discussion: A stationary front combined and the remnants of Gordon
will bring widespread showers to central Indiana through Sunday.
After that, high pressure will provide dry and warmer weather.
