* Forecast...Rise above flood stage by Monday early afternoon and
continue to rise to near 10.4 feet by Tuesday morning. Additional
rises are possible thereafter.
* Impact...At 10.5 feet...There are numerous road closures northwest
of Hutchinson due to high water. Low water crossing on 43rd Street
just east of Pennington floods. Expect road closure on 43rd Street
between Pennington to Hendricks roads. Also 69th Street floods
between Wilson to Pennington roads. Then 50th Street floods between
Wilson and Pennington roads. Flooding occurs along Pennington Road
from Nickerson Blvd to 50th Avenue.

* From late Monday night until late Tuesday night.
* At 2:47 PM Saturday the stage was 6.6 feet and rising.
* Flood stage is 22.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...This forecast is based on heavy rainfall that is expected
in the next few days. The river will rise above flood stage by early
Tuesday morning and continue to rise to near 22.7 feet by Tuesday
morning. Then the river will fall below flood stage by Tuesday afternoon.
* Impact...At 23.0 feet...Agricultural fields flood more so on the
east bank and overflows begin to cross 109th Street just 2 tenths
of a mile east of Ridge Road. Water covers 4th Street for about
half a mile east of Madison Road in the town of Sedgwick.

* Impact...At 10.5 feet...There are numerous road closures northwest
of Hutchinson due to high water. Low water crossing on 43rd Street
just east of Pennington floods. Expect road closure on 43rd Street
between Pennington to Hendricks roads. Also 69th Street floods
between Wilson to Pennington roads. Then 50th Street floods between
Wilson and Pennington roads. Flooding occurs along Pennington Road
from Nickerson Blvd to 50th Avenue.

Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Wichita KS 657 AM CDT Sat Oct 6 2018 .SHORT TERM...(Today through Sunday night) Issued at 259 AM CDT Sat Oct 6 2018 Cold front has just moved through KICT with fairly widespread showers and storms continuing north of the front, in an area of strong 925-850mb moisture transport. Regional 88D mosaic showing what looks to be a mid/upper circulation approaching southwest OK. Showers and storms are expected to gradually shift southeast this morning as the better low level moisture transport north of the front also shifts southeast. By 18z, cold front will be moving out of southeast KS with elevated convection north of the front mainly affecting areas southeast of the KS Turnpike. So confidence has increased that the best chance for more robust convection and heavy rain potential will be mainly this morning. The exception may be southeast KS, where better elevated instability and higher PWs will be situated. Meanwhile, feel that after this morning, the majority of the forecast area will see pockets of scattered showers with widespread heavy rainfall not expected. Should see a slight uptick in precip coverage and intensity tonight mainly due to low level jet processes helping increase low level moisture transport along with isentropic lift. Thunder tonight should be fairly limited due to lack of elevated instability. With the exception of far southeast KS, below normal temps are expected area wide today with most readings struggling to get out of the 50s, with only 40s expected for areas along and north of I-70. Main shortwave energy will be digging over the desert southwest by Sun morning, which will keep the region in a broad area of southwest flow aloft. Meanwhile, what is left of the cold front should stretch from northeast OK into central TX. This setup will allow the area to remain in a broad area of 850-700mb moisture transport with PW values around 200% of normal. So heavy rain will be possible Sun and especially Sun night, but very tough at this point to pin down what locations will have a better chance to see the higher amounts. .LONG TERM...(Monday through Friday) Issued at 259 AM CDT Sat Oct 6 2018 GFS and ECMWF have come into better agreement through these extended periods compared to yesterday at this time. By Mon morning, both have the main vort max over the desert southwest with strong southwest upper flow over the Plains. Will maintain high pops as we stay in an area of decent low level moisture transport with an unseasonably high PW airmass remaining in place. Confidence is increasing that the better chances for more widespread heavy rain Mon and Mon night will be for the western half of the forecast area, which will be closer to the better jet dynamics which will be slowly approaching west-central KS. There is decent agreement now between the GFS and ECMWF that the Tue morning through early Tue evening time frame is when the main piece of energy will eject out across central/eastern KS. This is also when we should see our most widespread concentration of heavy rain and potential flooding. Rainfall should be east of the area by Wed as we get back into some zonal flow aloft. Models then start to diverge on how they handle our next western CONUS impulse. GFS is much more progressive with this wave compared to the slower ECMWF. So confidence beyond Thursday is very low at this time. && .AVIATION...(For the 12Z TAFS through 12Z Sunday morning) Issued at 657 AM CDT Sat Oct 6 2018 At 11Z a slow, SE-movg cold front was just entering SE KS with numerous SHRA & embedded TSRA occurring along & NW of the front. As the front continues it's SE jaunt, the convection will spread across SE KS where cigs would quickly deteriorate into "low-end" MVFR country then IFR ~15Z as the SHRA/embedded TSRA increase. Vsbys should however drop below 3SM. The remaining terminals would be predominantly MVFR, the exception being KRSL where VFR cigs shuld occur from ~15Z until early this evening when cigs would return to MVFR status ~07/00Z & possibly IFR late tonight. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
