today through Sunday, bringing snow, sleet and freezing rain to
the area. The initial band of wintry precipitation will diminish
during the morning, with a lull in the precipitation anticipated
from mid-day into the afternoon and possibly into the early
evening in the east. But another round of heavy precipitation is

.A narrow band of heavy snow about 60 miles wide was noted
last night into this morning from Wausau to Marshfield and 
Wisconsin Rapids eastward to Oconto, Green Bay and Appleton, 
and then continued to Sturgeon Bay, Fish Creek and Kewaunee. 
Snowfall totals in this band were between 6 and 18 inches. 
Snowfall amounts north and south of this band dropped off shortly. 

A powerful storm system will continue to move slowly across the 
Midwest through Sunday, bringing snow, sleet and freezing rain to
the area. Another round of heavy precipitation is likely tonight 
into Sunday.

.The winter storm that brought blizzard conditions and record
breaking snowfall to much of the area was weakening early this
evening, and will continue to do so overnight and Monday. An 
additional 1 to 3 inches of snow is expected in most places 
tonight, with some locally higher amounts. 

Northeast winds gusting to 30 mph near the lake and bay and 25

Ongoing heavy wintry precipitation forced an upgrade to a warning
for much of the forecast area around midnight. Will extend that
forward through the rest of the event for the current warning
area, adding in adjacent areas with (hopefully) appropriate
timing. There still looks to be a lull during the day, but will
need to handle that with the specifics of the grids and in the
text products.

A winter storm moving slowly across the Midwest will
produce gusty northeast winds and IFR conditions across all but
far northern Wisconsin tonight through early Saturday. Precipitation
will be mostly snow, but may be mixed with sleet and freezing rain
south of a Wisconsin Rapids to Green Bay line. Snow plows will be
needed in most areas, and blowing and drifting snow could be a
consideration. The precipitation should diminish by midday Saturday,
with MVFR or VFR conditions in the afternoon.

The storm system will get close enough to the region Saturday night
and Sunday to bring significant snow to most of Wisconsin. It could
be mixed with sleet or freezing rain across the east central portion
of the state. Plows will be need in many areas Saturday night and
Sunday. Gusty northeast winds could produce blowing and drifting
snow Saturday night and Sunday.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for north-central and northeast
Wisconsin.

.DAY ONE...Tonight

Hazardous travel conditions will continue through midday Saturday
over all but far northern Wisconsin. A mix of snow, sleet and
freezing rain will change to all snow, with accumulations of 3 to
5 inches in central and parts of northeast Wisconsin and 2 to 4
inches in the Fox Valley. Northeast winds gusting to 35 mph will
producing blowing and drifting snow in some areas.

A few thunderstorms are possible across central and east-central
Wisconsin tonight. Small hail could accompany the storms.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Saturday through Friday

Wintry precipitation and strong winds due to a major late-season
winter storm will generate hazardous travel conditions during the
weekend. Travel Saturday night into Sunday night may be especially
difficult.

Strong northeast winds may lead to ice shoves and localized
flooding on the shorelines of Green Bay this weekend.

Rivers and streams across central and east-central Wisconsin will
be on the rise during the weekend through much of next week.

...HEAVY SNOW AND SLEET OCCURRING EARLY THIS MORNING...

At 150 am, radar indicated an intense band of wintry precipitation
centered along a line from near La Crosse, to Marshfield, to
Sturgeon Bay. Most of the precipitation within the band was
falling as heavy snow, with snowfall rates of 1-2 inches per hour
likely occurring. Lighter snows were occurring along the
northern edge of the band. The southern portion of the band, from
Wautoma to the Fox Cities to Manitowoc, was likely a mix of snow
and sleet. South of that, sleet and freezing rain was occurring
along the southern edge of the band. Freezing rain and icing of
elevated surfaces was occurring in the Oshkosh area.

The band is expected to remain in place through daybreak, through
it should gradually begin to weaken.

The heavy wintry precipitation combined with strong northeast
winds was producing extremely difficult travel conditions. Near
white-out conditions were occurring at times. Travel is
discouraged, except in the case of an emergency. If you must
travel early this morning, use extreme caution.
