UPDATE...

This mornings sounding shows several inversions with the strongest
between 675 to 775 mb. This is a pretty good cap and will likely
suppress convection to a point today. At the same time a vort max
and associated cold pool over Kentucky will move to the Georgia
border by 00Z increasing the probability of convection late this
afternoon and this evening across north GA. Have therefore lowered
pops this morning, and pushed the highest chances of precip to
late this afternoon/early evening for north GA. No other changes
planned at this time.

PREV DISCUSSION... /Issued 740 AM EDT Sun Jul 22 2018/

SHORT TERM /Today through Monday/...
The short term will see the persistence of a deep trough from
the Great Lakes into the southeast states. The southern portion
of the trough is forecast to become cut off over GA on
Monday. In addition...remnants of a weak front will linger across
GA. This combination should continue to support development of
showers and thunderstorms over the area with a mainly diurnal
pattern...with the exception of any thunderstorm complexes that
may form. Good chance to likely pops for today and Monday look
reasonable...with somewhat lower pops overnight. SPC has
our area mostly in general thunder today...except marginal for our
southernmost counties. General thunder again for Monday. As usual a
few storms could become severe. Temperatures expected to be near
normal most areas.

LONG TERM /Monday Night through Saturday/...
The forecast area will be under the influence of an upper level
Low/trough through much of the long term. The upper low will
weaken into a trough that will continue to weaken into the weekend.
A weak cold front will move to n GA Friday into Saturday.

Plenty of moisture and instability will be in place to allow
for scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms each day.

Forecast High temperatures will run a few to several degrees below
normal through Wednesday and then close to normal Thursday into
Saturday. Forecast low temperatures are running close to normal.

18Z Update...
VFR for the rest of this afternoon with scattered showers and
tstorms developing across the forecast area. Convection will
dissipate this evening. Cigs will become MVFR late tonight as the
upper low moves over the forecast area. Scattered to numerous
showers and isolated tsra will develop Monday morning and continue
into the afternoon. Cigs will become VFR all areas Monday
afternoon. Winds will remain west northwest this afternoon,
becoming light/calm tonight, then light northeast Monday morning.

Scattered to numerous thunderstorms can be expected Monday
through Saturday. A few storms could be strong to severe on any
day with the main hazards being strong gusty winds, frequent
lightning and minor flooding from heavy rainfall.

At 149 PM EDT...a strong thunderstorm was near Waverly Hall, or near
Hamilton...moving southeast at 20 mph.

  HAZARD...Up to 40 mph wind...pea sized hail and frequent cloud to
           ground lightning.

  IMPACT...Expect minor damage to tree limbs and blowing around of
           light...unsecured objects.

Some locations in the path of this storm include
Waverly Hall, Geneva, Upatoi, Ellerslie, Flat Rock, Box Springs,
Midland, Cataula, Baughville and Olive Branch.
