Warning for the following rivers in Georgia...
Sweetwater Creek near Austell affecting Cobb and Douglas Counties
.Recent heavy rainfall has caused significant runoff into streams and
rivers which will cause flooding in some areas.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
All persons with interests along the river should monitor the latest
forecasts...and be prepared to take necessary precautions to protect
life and property.
The latest stage data was furnished in cooperation with the United
States Geological Survey.

The Sweetwater Creek near Austell.
* Until Wednesday evening.
* At 10 AM Tuesday the stage was 9.8 feet...and rising.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 10 feet.
* Forecast to rise above flood stage by this afternoon and continue
to rise to near 12.3 feet by midnight tonight. The river is expected
to fall below flood stage by tomorrow afternoon...however additional
rainfall tomorrow may change this forecast.
* At 12.0 feet...Minor flooding continues in the woodlands and fields
upstream and downstream from the gage near the Interstate 20
bridge. Portions of a paintball playing field just downstream of
the bridge and athletic fields in the Woodrow Wilson Park on Mount
Vernon Road are flooded with one to two feet of water. Water also
floods yards of four elevated homes along Mount Vernon Road. A
portion of Wren Circle in Douglas County...the County Iron Works
and Sunlight Drive in Cobb County begin to flood.

* At 730 PM Tuesday the stage was 16.6 feet...and falling though
expected to rise again Wednesday morning.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 18 feet.
* Forecast to rise above flood stage by Wednesday evening and continue
to rise to near 21.9 feet by Thursday night.
* At 21 feet...Minor flooding expands. An increasing amount of the
Macon GreenWay Ocmulgee Heritage Trail floods north of the Martin
Luther King Boulevard bridge. The flood waters will be up to two
feet deep on portions of the trail and both banks overflow upstream
from the bridge. Large portions of agricultural lands east of Macon
and well downstream will be under 1 to 4 feet of water.

river will fall below flood stage by Saturday afternoon.

woodlands and pastures near the river. The water level is very
close to Ward Road on the right bank. Flood waters will be
approaching irrigation systems and they may need to be moved to
higher ground.

Cumming to Alpharetta and Roswell. Backyards of homes off Seale
Drive and Gunter Court and portions of the Golf of Georgia begin to
flood. The Big Creek Greenway experiences significant flooding up
to 3 feet deep...which results in closure of most of the paths.
This especially occurs upstream and downstream from the gage on
Kimball Bridge Road and Rock Mill Park. A large portion of the YMCA
Campground off Preston Ridge Road will be under a foot of water.

Primary concerns are heavy rain and flooding this forecast. Rainfall estimates based on MRMS last 24 hours ending at 08Z were quite significant with a wide swath of 2.5-3.25" amounts covering much of north GA with the highest rates falling around midday and afternoon. About 10 gage reports over 4 inches were received and a dozen or so rivers/creeks went above flood stage Monday afternoon and evening. As rainfall rates have tapered off and river levels have for the most part peaked, have cancelled flood watch as WPC and model consensus QPF indicate only 1/4 to 1/2 inch additional precip likely over north GA (up to 3/4 inch in westcentral GA) from now through 12Z Wednesday. Pattern overall not expected to changes much in the short term period with strong positively-tilted h5 trough extending from the midwest states down into west TX. Upper low progged to develop over the mid-south and quickly deepen which leaves GA in SW flow aloft in region of strong moist/warm advection especially late Wed and Wed night. Agree with WPC QPF of 2-3" 18Z Wed - 12Z Thur. Will be issuing Hydrologic Outlook (ESF) for next round of rain and will likely be issuing another flood or flash flood watch for that period later today or tonight. Convection generally not expected though could see some elevated instability this morning over far SE counties. Will have to monitor later forecasts in case moisture increases more than expected with next surge. At this time, no indication that cold air mass will be able to modify enough for any surface-based or elevated convection. SNELSON LONG TERM /Wednesday Night through Monday/... Have continued likely pops at the start of the extended period as deep upper low digs into the Lower Mississippi Valley. Models continue to indicate little instability with this system, and have only advertised moderate rainfall with no mention of thunder in the grids.
