.SYNOPSIS...
Coastal low developing over Delaware Bay will move up the coast
tonight and cross our Central Hills Tuesday morning as it lifts
north. This will bring a soaking rain to Southern New England
tonight and a threat of snow in parts of the Berkshires.
There will also be a period of strong to damaging winds along
the coast tonight. Upper level low lingers over New England
through Wednesday with scattered showers and breezy W winds.
High pressure and drier weather for Thursday through Saturday.
Stormy pattern returns Sunday into early next week. Milder and
faster weather pattern, expecting quick bouts of rainfall to add
to our already soaked region.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...

Mid afternoon surface maps showed primary low pressure over
Southern Ontario with a coastal secondary developing off
Delaware and New Jersey. Strongest pressure falls were along the
New Jersey coast, aimed at Long Island and Connecticut. This
suggests a storm track that reaches Connecticut by early
morning.

Favorable upper jet divergence over the region tonight combines
with low level convergence from a 50-60 kt low level jet. A
zone of 1-inch Precip Water passes along and south of the coast
overnight, providing well-above average moisture for rainfall.
The combination of strong lift with the moisture should suffice
for rain, heavy at times.

The strong low level winds may get brought down to the surface
in strong gusts, especially along the South Coast and Islands as
well as the Mass East Coast. Strongest winds should be across
Cape Cod and Islands and coastal Plymouth County, where we have
issued a High Wind Warning. Strong winds around 40 kt will occur
along the coast north of Plymouth County and the South Coast
west of Cape Cod. A Wind Advisory is in effect in those areas.

Temperatures will be just barely cold enough for snow in the
East Slopes of the Berkshires, mainly in far western Franklin
County. This should be a marginal case, as we expect sfc
temperatures of 32 to 34 degrees. The best chance for snow will
be in the higher elevations, with 2-4 inches possible in those
higher spots. A Winter Weather Advisory continues tonight for
that snow.

The secondary low moves off through Northern New England
Tuesday, taking most of the precipitation north of us. Upper
low pressure sweeps east over New England and then stalls. This
will keep plenty of moisture over our region Tuesday and Tuesday
night, maintaining partly to mostly cloudy skies. The low will
also bring a cold air pool aloft, bringing enough instability to
cause leftover showers mostly in Northern Mass. The mixed layer
Tuesday reaches 900 mb, with temperatures supporting max sfc
temps in the 40s, possibly high 30s in the hills. Winds in the
mixed layer are forecast 25-30 kts, so expect gusty winds from
late morning to mid afternoon.

further sub-tropical digging and tighter baroclinicity, a stronger
fetch of deeper moisture N, convergently focused, ascending beneath
favorable dynamics and diffluence. Subsequent excessive rainfall, it
has been a very wet month of November.

But change is coming. Progressive N Pacific pattern, accompanying H3
jet streak. Split-flow in advance pushing E, an usherance of warmer
air into Canada emphasized via +H85 temperature anomalies whether it
be ahead of Gulf of AK or Rocky Mountain lee cyclones, advance mild
SW fetch / S-stream energy emphasis. Over time, Arctic air deflects
E coinciding with a stratospheric vortex shift towards N Europe. The
NAO becoming positive as an Icelandic low becomes dominant, better
area for PV anomalies / trop-folds develops over the Davis Straight
and N Atlantic. This pattern shift going into December.

Short Term /through Tuesday Night/...High Confidence.

Tonight...Rain moving up the coast will bring IFR cigs/vsbys in
heavier bursts of rain. Wet snow is possible in the Berkshires,
especially in the higher hills. Low pressure moving up the coast
will bring East to Southeast winds, strongest along the coast.
Sustained winds in the coastal plain will reach 20-25 kt with
gusts 40-50 kt along the coast. Winds and rain will diminish
after midnight, then shift out of the south and southwest after
2 AM.

Tuesday...
West winds will gust 25-30 kt late morning and afternoon,
especially along the coast. Cigs and Vsbys improve to VFR as
drier air moves in.

Expect VFR with diminishing wind Tuesday night.

KBOS Terminal...Moderate confidence in TAF.

KBDL Terminal....Moderate confidence in TAF.

Outlook /Wednesday through Saturday/...

Wednesday: Mainly VFR, with local MVFR possible. Breezy. Slight

Developing storm center off New Jersey will move across Long
Island overnight and into Northern New England Tuesday. Expect
winds 25 to 35 kt and gusting to 50 kts over the unsheltered
waters and building seas. Winds on sheltered waters such as
Boston Harbor and Narragansett Bay will gust 40 to 45 kt.
Winds will shift after 2 AM, coming from the south and
southwest.

Winds from the west-southwest Tuesday and Tuesday night with
winds gusting to 35 kt during the day and diminishing at night.
A gale warning will be needed at that time, diminishing to Small
Crafts Tuesday night.

Outlook /Wednesday through Saturday/...

Wednesday: Low risk for Small Craft Advisory winds with local
gusts up to 30 kt. Local rough seas. Slight chance of rain
showers.

Wednesday Night: Moderate risk for Small Craft Advisory winds

Heavy rain tonight may result in pockets of typical nuisance
poor drainage street flooding. In addition...localized minor
river/stream flooding will continue to be an issue through mid
week mainly across eastern MA and RI.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
Tonight...

Coastal flood advisories continue along the eastern MA
coast/Nantucket for late night high tide cycle.

The very late night high tide is a substantially lower
astronomical tide. However...a potent easterly low level jet
will result in onshore 40 to 50 knot wind gusts along the coast
with seas building to 15+ feet. Guidance appears underdone with
the surge and feel that a 2 to 3 foot storm surge is likely.
This should result in widespread minor coastal flooding. We can
not rule out the low risk for isolated pockets of low end
moderate flooding...but do not think they will be
substantial/widespread enough to warrant a coastal flood
watch/warning. However...if winds overperform and we end up with
a 3 to 3.5 foot storm surge the risk for moderate coastal
flooding would increase. Feel this is a low probability right
not but will have to monitor closely.
