.ANALYSIS AND UPPER LEVELS...
The main feature continues to be the upper level low over the
northern Bering Sea and the weak surface low over the Kuskokwim
Delta region. This low continues to rotate showers across
southwest Alaska into Southcentral Alaska. An upper level tough
extends from the upper low into the central Bering Sea. This
trough is progged to move to the Bering Coast then across
Southcentral Alaska as an upper level and surface ridge of high
pressure follow in on the heels of this system.

.MODEL DISCUSSION...
The models seem to have a good grasp on the building of the high
pressure into western Alaska and the development of an outflow
pattern along the Chugach Mountains heading into the weekend. The
high resolution models are in good agreement with the coverage and
amounts of precipitation as these troughs pass through.

&&

.AVIATION...
PANC...VFR conditions and light winds will be predominate over
the terminal this evening. As an upper trough moves though around
03-06Z, there is the potential for some snow showers that could
briefly bring ceilings down to around 5000 ft. The last of these
upper troughs is expected to move through tomorrow afternoon, in
the 22-24Z time frame that could again ceilings near 5000 ft to
the terminal.

.SHORT TERM FORECAST SOUTHCENTRAL ALASKA (Days 1 and 2)...
The synoptic pattern features high pressure over the Beaufort Sea
with a vortex over the northern Bering Sea. The vortex over the
Bering has several shortwaves moving about the base. The most
prominent one is the negatively-tilted shortwave over the Copper
River Basin. In its wake there is another negatively-tilted trough
that will lift north over the Alaska Range. The latest scan of
the Kenai Radar (PAHG) does detect showers near Houston and it is
very possible that there are other showers that are below the
beam. Expecting light snow showers to continue into the night,
however significant accumulations are not anticipated. Then there
is a third basal shortwave that will push across the AKPEN and
Kodiak on Thursday and emerge into the northern Gulf Of Alaska
early Friday which will enhance offshore flow over Resurrection
Bay. But generally speaking, this is a relatively low impact
forecast package for both the land and the marine zones.

push through southwest Alaska tonight and Thursday. This will
bring a chance of showers to much of the area. As this trough
exits to the southeast on Thursday night, an upper level ridge
building over the Bering will push into the area, ending shower
activity. Low level flow will be weak Thursday morning, producing
some fog and low clouds. Conditions will dry out Friday night and
Saturday as low level northerly flow increases. Some clouds will
spill over the top of the ridge into the Kuskokwim Delta area,
otherwise sky conditions will be fairly clear.

.SHORT TERM FORECAST BERING SEA/ALEUTIANS (Days 1 through 3)...
A few showers are possible over the central and eastern Bering
tonight as the shortwave trough pushes east. Thursday through
Sunday will bring generally dry conditions with light and
variable winds over much of the area as strong subsidence
promotes extensive low stratus and fog development.

.LONG TERM FORECAST (Days 3 through 7)...
High confidence remains with high pressure building in over the
eastern Bering that will last through the weekend before
diminishing and tracking west. This will leave southern Alaska in
an outflow pattern through the weekend and into early next week.
However, the guidance is still struggling with an upper level low
tracking south through the state. Models vary on how the low will
track and how much cold air it will bring, including the timing
of the cold air. This will impact how strong winds are over the
north Gulf coast next week and exactly when the strongest winds
will occur. Operational runs were used through much of the weekend
with the better agreement and ensembles were used moving into
next week.
