.ANALYSIS AND UPPER LEVELS...
A longwave upper level trough still extends from the northern
Bering all the way into the Gulf of Alaska where a vertically
stacked low sits just south of the AKPEN. On the south side of
this low, an impressively strong jet stream (max wind 170 knots)
is delivering a large swath of zonal flow across the North
Pacific.

The occluded front associated with the Gulf low has already
lifted inland across the AKPEN and Southcentral. Mixed
precipitation continues to fall across Southwest Alaska and the
AKPEN this morning. Surface observations indicate snow over Bethel
while warmer temperatures at Port Heiden and Kodiak have brought
rain. Additionally, radar imagery indicates a swath of
precipitation along the northern Gulf coast moving in from the
east. This is in response to a smaller surface low generated from
the larger Gulf low.

On the backside of this Gulf low, strong northerly flow persists
over the Bering as a ridge builds in over the western Aleutians.
This large area of cold air advection has generated strong gusty
winds along the central and eastern Aleutians.

.MODEL DISCUSSION...
Model consistency continues to be of concern. Out west in the
Bering, models have come together enough to be somewhat reliable.
The east over the Gulf of AK however is another story. There
continues to be quite a difference in the speed at which models
bring in the next low pressure system. The NAM is the fastest,
with the Canadian in general agreement. The GFS lags behind quite
a bit, with the EC splitting the difference. This is pretty much
what was happening yesterday, so models are consistent in being
inconsistent.

We have chosen to go with the NAM solution with bringing in this
next low pressure system. The EC would be the top choice for
timing, but we do not favor it due to other factors. Therefore,
NAM is the choice even if its a bit fast and we will adjust timing
if necessary.

.AVIATION...Another wave of precipitation is moving over the
airfield and rain will continue on and off into the afternoon.
Mist will linger afterward. As a result, conditions will be
borderline MVFR for most of the TAF period.

.SHORT TERM FORECAST SOUTHCENTRAL ALASKA (Days 1 and 2)...
A fairly strong low in the northern Gulf will move inland near
western Prince William Sound late this morning, then move further
inland and dissipate in the afternoon. This will bring strong
winds to the northern Gulf this morning. It will also bring more
precipitation to much of Southcentral through this afternoon. The
precipitation type is still a challenge to forecast, as the air
aloft is quite warm but some cold air lingers near the surface in
some spots. Some freezing rain is possible this morning,
especially in the southern Susitna valley. A low south of Kodiak
Island this morning will move north through Tuesday, making
landfall near the southern tip of the Kenai Peninsula in the
afternoon. The low will then slowly work its way up Cook Inlet
Tuesday night. This will keep some showers over much of the area.
Temperatures in the mid levels will still be quite warm, and
precipitation type in the lower elevations will mostly be in the
liquid form.

.SHORT TERM FORECAST SOUTHWEST ALASKA (Days 1 and 2)...
A front associated with the low south of Kodiak Island currently
stretches from the Alaska Peninsula to the north and is bringing
snow to the Kuskokwim Delta. A secondary trough rotating through
the Bristol Bay area is bringing a mixture of rain and snow
showers with a strong thermal gradient located in the vicinity of
the Nushagak River. The next weak easterly wave will cross into
Southwest Alaska tonight bringing more showers to the area. A more
substantial deformation band will set up on Tuesday, supported by
the strong thermal gradient to the east of the arctic trough
extending through the eastern Bering and into the Kuskokwim Delta.
Heavier precipitation accompanying this band will extend to the
northwest from the surface low in the western Gulf, across the
Alaska Range and into Southwest Alaska. Along the western, colder
side of this band, precipitation will fall as all snow, while to
the east, rain may initially mix with the snow before turning to
all snow Tuesday night and Wednesday.

.SHORT TERM FORECAST BERING SEA/ALEUTIANS (Days 1 and 2)...
North to northwesterly flow prevails across the Bering between an
upper level ridge over the western Aleutians and a deep, vertically
stacked low centered 250 miles south of Kodiak Island. Strong
winds currently gusting through the gaps and passes in the eastern
Aleutians and Alaska Peninsula will gradually diminish tonight
through Tuesday as the large low tracks to the north-northeast
into the western Gulf and the upper ridge shifts east to the
central Aleutians. A frontal wave tracking off of the Kamchatka
Peninsula will reach the western Aleutians tonight, the central
Aleutians on Tuesday and then continue to the east-southeast to
pass south of the eastern Aleutians and Alaska Peninsula Tuesday
night and Wednesday. The next incoming frontal system will track
into the western Bering Wednesday morning with a rapidly deepening
surface low tracking from the southwest to northeast, passing
just to the west of Attu Island Wednesday afternoon. The front
will continue east into the central Bering Wednesday night.

.LONG TERM FORECAST (Days 4 through 7: Thursday Nov 29th through
Sunday Dec 2nd)...

The forecast period commences with a longwave trough across
Western Alaska, the North Pacific and the Gulf Of Alaska with a
ridge axis over the Central Bering. At the onset of the forecast
period, the models have a surface low south of Kodiak, a low near
the Norton Sound and another low with an elongated occlusion near
Kamchatka. The GFS, NAM and ECMWF have these surface features in
the same general location by 12z Thursday. But these systems are
not in sync amongst the models. As the forecast period elapses,
the model divergence becomes more amplified. Generally speaking,
expecting a progressive and unsettled pattern for the Bering and
the Gulf Of Alaska. However, due to the systemic run to run
consistency issues, this forecast package reflects a blend of
models. Even with the blending and the hedging, categorically
there are confidence issues with the timing of the precipitation
shields for each storm, the p-type category and the tracks of the
