...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 500 PM EDT
FOR NORTHWESTERN MEIGS AND SOUTHWESTERN ATHENS COUNTIES...

At 437 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over Albany, moving
northeast at 20 mph.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts. 

SOURCE...Radar indicated. 

IMPACT...Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

Albany.

For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a
building.

Continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm.
Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature's leading
killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to
be struck by lightning.

Torrential rainfall is occurring with this storm, and may lead to
flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

SOUTHWESTERN ATHENS COUNTIES IS CANCELLED...
        
The storm which prompted the warning has weakened below severe
limits, and has exited the warned area. Therefore, the warning has 
been cancelled.  However heavy rain is still occurring with this 
thunderstorm and may result in localized high water in poor drainage 
areas.

.SYNOPSIS...
Stationary front and a series of passing disturbances will keeps
chances for convection through Friday. Cooler and less humid under
high pressure Sunday.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH FRIDAY/...
A stationary boundary remains in the vicinity with abundant
moisture with pwats exceeding 2 inches and dewpoints in the
lower 70s. A series of shortwaves will move over this boundary
and enhance showers and storms this afternoon.

Convection will continue tonight as a weak sfc low moves over
the area. Models suggest that the bulk of pcpn will fall across
the northern sections. In fact, WPC has an area of slight risk
for excessive rainfall across the northeast, extending east
into MD. Rainfall accumulations area expected to be 2-3 inches
with higher localized amounts. There could be a lull in
convection activity Friday morning and part of the afternoon
hours.

Based on coordination with surrounding offices, issued a Flash
Flood Watch for the northeast quadrant of WV until 12Z Friday
morning.

An upper level trough crosses the area Friday to provide
unstable conditions and a slight risk for severe thunderstorms.
SFC CAPE exceeding 2000 J/Kg, strong deep layered shear reaching
50 knots and strong boundary layer convergence will allow storms
to grow to severe potential. There is a slight risk for severe
storms Friday. Additional water problems can be anticipated.

.SHORT TERM /FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT/...
As of 230 PM Thursday...

S/W trof axis and associated cold front will cross Friday night
with a line of strong to perhaps severe storms. Front will be
east of the area Saturday morning but lingering low level
moisture and an approaching s/w trof axis may be enough for a
few afternoon mountain showers or thundershowers. Surface high
builds in Saturday night and Sunday.

.LONG TERM /MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
As of 240 PM Thursday...

The mean longwave trof will loosen its grip over the region next
week but still in the trajectory for disturbances within the
mean flow, with one slated for midweek.

.AVIATION /19Z THURSDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
As of 130 PM Thursday...

Stationary frontal boundary meanders over the area while weak
short waves pass overhead. Radar images show a large area of
convection that have been moving slowly east over WV. Radar
detected additional convection across central KY moving our way.
Expect some of these showers to become storms and to produce
heavy rain and associated IFR/LIFR conditions along their path.

The bulk of the convection will focus across the northern
sections. Brief periods of fog can be possible over areas that
received rain. Conditions will improve by Friday morning.

...A STRONG THUNDERSTORM WILL AFFECT SOUTHEASTERN MINGO AND
SOUTHWESTERN LOGAN COUNTIES...

At 320 PM EDT, a strong thunderstorm was located near Hinch, or 12
miles south of Logan, moving northeast at 35 mph.

Winds 40 to 50 mph are possible with this storm.

Locations impacted include...
Man, Mallory, Hinch, Amherstdale-Robinette, Red Jacket, Bruno,
Chauncey, Varney, Hampden, Sarah Ann, Switzer and Pie.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm, and may cause
localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm.
Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe
shelter inside a building or vehicle.
